In the reveal article for this they claimed this will double triggered abilities. Based on the wording I am confused.

Because I'm sure someone will inevitably ask, an activated ability is anything with a :. You pay a cost to get the effect, and then you can copy it. It doesn't work with triggered abilities like, for example, Riku of Two Reflections' spell copying.
I need more ways of turning artifacts into creatures.

I like to put this on Azami, Lady of Scrolls. As if she wasn't powerful enough already...
Yeah, Seeker of Skybreak and Tidewater Minion work nearly as well. But people already recognize those two from Elf/Merfolk infinite combo decks, and using the copied effect to untap an artifact opens up many more options for the kill card. Nobody, I mean nobody, will have any idea what Aphetto Alchemist is or why you are playing it... until you go infie and it's too late.
A lot of already-existing infinite combos don't benefit from copying the ability, so this card isn't quiiiiite as "OMG BROKEN" as it seems at first. What we'll really benefit from is having plausible options, alternatives. For example, pretty much every Pili-Pala combo out there is easier to pull off with Illusionist's Bracers, since it basically fulfills the same role as a Training Grounds / Rings of Brighthearth / Heartstone.
Happy Johnnying.

Just says "an ability" of a creature. Doesn't say activated ability. Although it does say when an ability "is activated". Seems a little vague and I don't see any rulings here. Most of the time though, a card will specifically say "activated abilities" this, or "triggered abilities" that. Why the exception here?

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Deserves a 5 imo, and here's why. Copies of abilities enter the stack, therefor occur before the original instance of the ability. Let's say you have a Krenko, Mob Boss out with one Bracer on, and 2 other Goblins. You tap him to activate his ability. Bracers copies it, and takes effect first. You get 3 Goblin tokens and the copy resolves. Then his original ability happens, and you now have 6 Goblins so you get 6 more. Imagine having more than one Bracer on even! Such an insane card and not even just for Krenko. Beguiler of Wills can give you a stronger creature than she could have alone because you'll control the one you gained from the Bracer's copy before her original instance occurs.

I wish they updated this card and added ruling to clarify. Some people believe this card only enhances activated abilities. Some say it would effect triggered abilities. Im already sure if won't aid static abilities, but it should aid triggers. I have two Bracers and I won't run them till I know for sure. If its just Activated abilities then that will make me sad.

Regeneration/Undying/Persist creatures getting you down? Hit em with a double-barrel blast from Magus of the Disk!
Heck even anything with a Dragon Breath-type ability is awesome with this. I'm going to be thinking up combos for a long time...
JUST TO CLARIFY
Look at the Gatecrash FAQ's. Scroll down to Illusionist's Bracer's. It says,
"An activated ability is written in the form 'Cost: Effect.'" (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/faq/gtc)
Illusionist's Bracer's only copies Activated abilities. It does NOT copy Triggered abilities, nor does it copy Static abilities.
@Chuck85 No. Please read what I type before asking questions. Geist's ability says "When Geist of Saint Traft attacks;" that is a TRIGGERED ability. ACTIVATED abilities have a colon in them. "Cost: Effect."
@jmazaredo Nope. Once you pay the 1 mana, the ability is copied and the copy will go on the stack. Because the spell is copied, anything that paid its cost is also copied. For example, if you Equip the Bracers on a Zameck Guildmage and activate its first ability, you will pay {G}{U} only once. The ability will be copied by the Bracers, and the effect will double, so your creatures will enter the battlefield that turn with two +1/+1 counters instead of one.
@Hussalo Yes, the Graveyard targeting abilities of Deathrite Shaman would do double duty with Bracers equipped. And I like the idea of Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord with these wrapped around his decaying arms. The act of sacrificing the creature is part of the ability's activation cost, so the effect is copied without having to sacrifice a second creature. For example, Jarad + Bracers, Sacrifice Deadbridge Goliath, each opponent loses 10 life (5 twice).
extra fun with Dual Casting (or any other effects that say 'Equipped/Enchanted creature has "activate:dostuff"' )

Where are the rulings for this card? I want to know what happens when you try to equip it to something like void stalker and I wish wizards would clarify that this is ONLY activated abilities. Because the jargon used in the ability is a whenever clause (which is the clause for triggered abilities). Also I got 2 of this in prerelease and 2 more in packs. -_- Wasn't even trying to go for this card :/

I just figured out how to get unlimited mana with this card IN STANDARD, which is always kind of cool.
You now gain 4 mana every time you activate your Elf on the enchanted Land, two of which are any color of your choosing. Make one of them blue. Untap your elf utilizing his new soulbound ability from the Alchemist. But wait: Bracers makes that happen twice, which now lets you untap that verdant haven enchanted forest 4 times.
8 mana total, 4 of which are any color of your choosing, 5 net mana. In fact, you don't even need the Verdant Haven as long as you have a Breeding Pool in play and enough mana to trigger the initial untap of your arbor elf. You will simply be limited to green and blue mana generation.

But yes this card is amazing especially when you throw four of them on a beguiler of wills... Tap to take control of 5 target creatures, all one needs to do at that point is give beguiler of wills hexproof and its an evil imba combo that helps break this game even more!

No it's not. It is an untap ability. The land is mana source. The Elf just lets you use it again.
Thousand-Year Elixir+Illusionist Bracers+ Krenko, Mob Boss = Busting out the calculator on turn 5. I'm just saying, this is a real card. People are seriously overlooking this.
There are a few ways of turning Planeswalkers into creatures. To my knowledge, they all revolve around turning them into an Enchantment (Enchanted Evening) or an Artifact (Memnarch/Mycosynth Lattice) first, and then turning them into a creature (Opalescence for enchantments, and either March of the Machines or Animate Artifact for artifacts). Once they're creatures, they're fair game to be equipped with these bracers, and then their abilities will be duplicated. Remember, though, that adding or removing counters is the cost of the ability, not the effect, so activating a +1 still only gives you one counter even though the ability fires twice.
@patrickmahan Sun Titan's effect is triggered, not activated. As has been mentioned a few times, activated abilities are printed in a "cost: effect" format. If it doesn't have a cost listed before a colon, it's not an activated ability.

correct me if I'm wrong but combining this with, say, Numot, the Devastator will not give you 4 Stone Rains because Numot's ability is triggered, not activated.
I have a question about this card and wondering if this could be one way for my Selesnya deck to go. Say I equip it to Emmara Tandris thus copying her ability to prevent all damage to my tokens, then I would choose a new token as the target of Illusion's Bracers. Thus when I populate this token with the ability, would the new populated token receive the ability as well as technically it is a copy of the token? Just curious if this is something I could do? And would it also work with let's say Trostani, Selesnya's Voice?

If I were to equip this to, say, Thallid, when I remove the three spore counters, do I get two saprolings? It's an activated ability, but it doesn't have a target. I understand the new target clause is a may-clause so I can choose not to target anything, but I can't target anything.

This card is super fun. I like it with Deathrite Shaman, because it works with all 3 of his abilities. The more Bracers on him the better. Mass graveyard removal and mana production!
This card is great given the right format. Standard is limited with this card, since artifacts slow down the meta game for this block. However, in Modern this card has potention, using cards like, Skirsdag HIgh Priest. In Commander I use this card to win on turn 6 with Heartless Hidetsugu since he deals 30 commander damage on at most turn 6, turn 5 if the bracers are out along with Hammer of Puphoros with a mana boost with Priest of Urabrask. this card gets a 4/5 for utility use.

@noobmag1 one problem with bloodline keeper, when his second transform ability resolves, its copied and he goes from bloodline keeper to lord of linage, and then illusionists bracers ability triggers and he transforms back to bloodline keeper. you would have to first equip the bracers to something else, then transform him.
