For 9 mana you have a killer creature. That sounds about right, until you realize that you can pay in installments! So what if your opponent killed it? That just means it's a great big threat that they must answer to, and that's good for you!

Also, it's not as annoying to lose a creature that you can replace by paying only 2-mana and starting the clock again quite easily without tapping out of mana for counters. This is a great card, and I foresee fun things to happen with it on the field.

Makes you a big target in multiplayer though. Even bigger than Luminarch Ascension, I'd wager.

Am I wrong, or 7+ Level ability of this creature only makes sense in multiplayer games like booster draft? Because an end step that is not in your turn, is in your oponent's turn. So, in a duel, you will take your normal turn.

Holy crap. If I'm duelling, I get two extra turns for every one of my opponent's. If I'm multiplayer, I get an extra turn after each of my opponents. I will surely maintain my local title of He Who Is Targeted First.

So if you managed to get two to level 7+ you could have 3 turns for every one your opponent takes? (assuming against one person, 2 extra turns then 1 normal turn = 3)
High Tide could be an option for mana accel.

I got this in the prerelease and I found it not hard to lvl at all.
once I got it completely leveled in 3 turns, once in 2. and that's while running 3 colors.

it is annoying when he gets removed, but when he gets going it's absolutely insane.

@Final_Fortune: Nope, it means that you take a bonus turn after each of your opponent's. That includes during a duel, so that the order once this thing powers up goes You (level-up turn)-Opponent-You (bonus)-You (regular)-Opponent-You (bonus)-You (regular)-Opponent...etc. Essentially, it means that you get to play a Time Warp once per go-around.
Amsjex
★★☆☆☆ (2.8/5.0) (2 votes)
Ah the reason i've stored a lot of momentary blinks (edit: yea that only targets my stuff can't rememebr which card it is off hand...but thinking about it i got a stack of pithing needles i've been meaning to use to annoy this looking like the best bet) up...i'm gonna make some blue players cry...wait til they activate that level up for the 7th time and then bam removed from the game, returns to the game without any of those counters on it.

and he's not hard to break, a doubling season would double his level up speed and there is a creature which adds 2 level up counters to all creatures with level up.

I'm just waiting for the torrent of crybabies who've lost games to cards like this and don't understand that really if he got to level 7 especially on turn 4...or possibly less then really build a better deck, espcially if the losing deck was black or red

My cousin top 8-ed his first sanctioned tourney at the prerelease by playing this guy. Pumped his white levelers that gave +2/+2 bonuses and prevent 1 and 2 damage to each of his creatures. BW control will be unstoppable with this. Levelers will be shooting up like nobody's business.

@Amsjex

Are you serious? Someone's deck automatically needs to be made better if an opponent gets him to level 7 on turn 4 and then wins because of that?

What's wrong with you? Getting him that high so early is all about getting every card you need within those 4 turns, which is nothing but dumb luck. And what if the person facing the guy using this is unlucky enough to not get the needed removal cards before it's too late?

Me and my friend Michael REALLY wanted to make twin decks that play this in a multiplayer duel. Now, get this, wouldn't one card work off of the other? I take a turn when he has the card out and leveled and I have it out and leveled and he takes a bonus turn. Then, when he ends his bonus turn I get a bonus turn. When I end my bonus turn, he'd get a second bonus turn... and so on and so forth....

This is a very favorable card, for many reasons. Firstly, it can be invested into for very little mana. Secondly, it is ultimately becomes a game changing card if it survives until level 7. Thirdly, if the previous two fail, it is always a 1/3 for 2 mana - a good summon.

If nobody ever touches this thing in a multiplayer game, your friends suck at magic, and you should consider putting in junk troller, to deck everyone. Thats how lame and inactive your game would be if no one in a multiplayer game has a counterspell, bounce, removal (nearly every color has it), burn, or even lure for gods sake. Most multiplayer games ive played has at least one guy with a Wrath of God. Its just not that good.

Hello, everyone. I am everything boring in MTG.
Yes, it is bad form to dismiss a creature just because it has <=3 toughness and is not black. However, anyone who does so... well there is a small (yet important) bit of validity to their statements:
I am the incarnation of anguish and regret from an 8 player EDH game that lasted 6 hours. A card like this has it real home in games like that. In the more common casual play environment, over-the-top abilities like this are a chase after the wind. I am not saying they are impossible to achieve- but consider this card to be a 4-of that only soaks up removal. Hell, you just scored an extra turn if your opponent taps out for a kicked Burst Lightning at this guy. I think he is good in duels, but improper in multiplayer.

Protecting Lighthouse Chrono the Easy Way:

Two words - Whispersilk Cloak. Shroud and unblockable means that unless someone destroys the cloak, or wipes the entire field with Wrath of God or Planar Cleansing, you can just saunter in, hit your opponent for 3, and they can't bounce or fireball him.

Ok, this is funny. My friend and I were playing in a 8 player free for all and I had just gotten a standard Blue deck, Jaces i believe. I added some of my cards real quick like a Vesuvan Shapeshifter. He decided to play his "Extra Turn" deck that had 4 of these in it paired with Chronozoa. This was a random setup . game began and I decided since my deck sucked, I was at least going to help another blue deck win. He played one of these... i noticed my unmorphed Vesuvan and started laughing so hard. Everyone was clueless. I unmorphed it, copied, He freaking laughed and started helping me with counterspells... we pulled it off! him and me were the only ones playing and everyone conceded. It was one of the best plays I've seen! hahaha he won but it was worth it.

Additonal Rulings:

4/11/11 - In a six-player multiplayer Two-Headed Giant EDH game, if both you and the second opponent on the third team control a level 7 Lighthouse Chronologist, and it's the second Thursday of the month, the turn order is as follows (with extra turns in double parentheses): Your team's turn, team A's turn, ((your team's turn)), team B's turn (unless you are team A, in which case it's not your turn again), ((your turn)), your partner's turn, team B and A's turn (at the same time), your mom's turn, your team's turn ((left turn)), and so on until someone swats the table in frustration (at which point you say 'Gotcha!' and return Cardpecker from your graveyard to your hand.)

6-8 mana for blue seems to be very easy in NPH.
T1: Island, Enclave Cryptologist or the likes.
T2: Island, this card or some other blue creatures with CMC 2.
T3: Island, Grand Architect, Tapping 3Blue creatures, Playing Caged Sun then naming blue.
T4: If you played another island you can produce enough mana to level-up this fella.

And don't forget with this combo he's already a 3/5 at level 0.
JaxsonBateman
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Wiggy21 - 5 card combos aren't particularly strong, even if 3 of those cards can be "any ally". =P Not to mention you'd need a sixth card to make that infinite mana worthwhile, and you're probably going to have better options that Lighthouse Chronologist. ^_-

The only thing that stopped this card from being one of the superstars of standard control was the fact that level up is sorcery speed, thus disallowing blue from keeping up counter mana and still levelling this at EoT. If it were something like lv 3 for extra turn, but 3 mana per counter, proliferate could've brought it back - but alas, that was not the case, and having to proliferate 6 times at instant speed (probably less; you're likely to put *some* counters on it normally) isn't really viable.

No, you get one more turn for every one turn your opponent has. When they end their turn, you get your 'extra' turn, then your 'normal' turn. Once those are ended, your opponent gets their turn again.

If your opponent Time Warps and takes and extra turn themself, you get ANOTHER turn (3rd) in between them. Since this one will trigger on the end phase and overwrite the 'after this one' part of a typical Time Warp type card.

All of this is in the 'Rulings' on this card's "Details" page.

this is...quite ridiculous. I'm not sure how good it can be in Commander, where the singleton rule certainly puts a bit of a challenge into deckbuilding, because I can't count that high. That's obviously the format where this guy just rules the fkkkn world. With 99 other cards in your deck, there is room for this if you are playing blue. there just..is. the upside is too delicious to not try, and since Magic, taken as a whole, is broken, the downside is marginalizable.

I have it with Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, Rite of Replication, Time Stop, Reminisce, and High Tide. Take seven turns to an opponent's one, draw forty-nine cards, select and discard, recycle, choose Time Stop on my last turn and save six land, then stop whomever's next, launching into the seven-turn cycle again. Complete shut-out, no matter how many players!

"What's that? No, it's still my turn. Don't believe me? Well, then... no, it's still my turn. Let me check... and where's your hand? Oh, right. Yeah, still my turn. Remember guys, you only take an extra turn after your opponent's turn, so if you're playing one-on-one, you get 2 turns to your opponent's one.
However, if two different players each have one, they just alternate taking turns, regardless of how many other players there are in the game.

With Followed Footsteps and seven mana, you can double the number of turns you take every time an opponent takes a turn:

Opponent takes one turn.

You get a bonus turn, put a copy into play, level it up to 7.

You get your normal turn, put a copy into play, level it up to 7.

Opponent takes one turn.

You take four turns, put four copies into play, level them up to four.

Opponent takes one turn.

You take eight turns, etc etc.

Utterly excessive and unnecessary (especially for seven mana), but amusing.

WASTE OF SPACE IN EDH.

and Mr.happyface: If Kraj threw a +1/+1 counter on the leveling cards he'd gain their activated abilities only if they are at that certain level, or level to it after having a +1/+1 counter put on them. They do not statically have the abilities until they reach the level.

Also Lighthouse Chronologist does not have an activated ability besides level up. Not really sure as to why you'd want to use their level up on Kraj, as he benefits nothing from it, but you can do it if you really want to.

@Seriously

It's possible that nobody kills it the turn it comes down, but remember that one other player gets a whole turn to kill it. Its ability doesn't trigger until the end step, so one opponent gets to untap without you getting an extra turn. Even assuming two opponents are tapped out/have no removal, there's a good chance the one who untaps can do something about it.

It's strong, but with 8 blue and one colorless mana you can do a lot scarier things.
