I really like this card. Sure, it won't see play in Standard, but it looks really fun in casual

His blue ability is just awesome, but the red has a lot of potential too (Stuffy Doll, etc). Should fit nicely in EDH, though his boltable body is a touch worrisome.

This guy is a Miracle engine. He helps you draw at the end of your opponent's turn to try and cast them and he pitches them for high damage to creatures if you don't get to miracle them. I want to build about six different styles of deck with him he is so regal. I could almost see him hanging out in Rapture.
Limited nuke. If I cracked him pack 3 I'd probably change to Izzet regardless of what I started out as.

@ DarthParallax: This guy could be Warmachine given the big cannon on his shoulder. Now we have both Ironman (Crosis's Attendant) and his buddy Warmachine (this guy). Maybe Rescue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper_Potts) would be Izzet Staticaster?

I got this guy halfway through the last pack of my Return to Ravnica Midnight Release Draft. I looked down at the card, looked up at the rest of the table, looked down at the card, looked at the rest of the table and asked "The hell is wrong with you guys?" And indeed, his card advantage and abillity to shoot guys won me many games that night, and while his constructed playabillity is dubious, I know for sure he has earned a home in my Ruhan of the Fomori EDH deck.

This guy sucks. This is another example of how close Wizards came to making good card. There are just soooo many small changes they could have made that would have put this guy into competitive play. Maybe...2/4? Make it so his abilities do not require him to tap...yet are only useable once per turn perhaps? Or casting cost? How about RRUU making him 4 mana but more of a color committment. At 5 mana he sucks - he was almost there but instead he will only be in middle of the road decks. Talking about commander or sealed, yeah yeah I get it, but when you look at him he doesn;t feel like he was built to be a commander card. This card as a rare is a total miss.

I'm putting this guy in my Galvanic Alchemist/Axebane Guardian combo deck. It will be nice to be able to draw extra cards every turn, and I might be able to draw 4 or 6 extra cards thanks to Galvinic Alchemist.
This card could have a lot of other uses too. Like maybe...
T1: Izzet Guildgate T2: Island, Deranged Assistant T3: Mountain, Mercurial Chemister T4: Island, Stuffy Dolll. T5: Mountain, Galvanic Alchemist, tap Assistant then Infernal Plunge it, Tap Chemister and sacrifice Omniscience, targeting Stuffy Doll. Untap it with Galvanic alchemist and sacrifice another Omniscience. Game.

That orb could have been an Orzhov weapon of some kind that izzet stole, Or Dimir stole it for Izzet, then Obzedat Activated it in retaliation for them stealing it. Orzhov probably would do such a thing, since they are obssessed with martial objects. Just something to think about, all the guilds pretty much hate one another.

Somehow, through sheer luck and lots of Searing Spears, I managed to stabilise against my friend's Gruul deck. He only had a few Disciple Of The Old Ways out and I had this guy.
Next turn, use ability again, cast Thoughtflare, discard Artful Dodge, flahsback onto the Cyclops. Proceed to dump entire hand consisting of miscellaneous 1 CMC spells out.
I brought him from 20 life to 0 thanks to this guy digging for all my combo pieces.
Tl;dr, Izzet can pull off some stupid shit. Wouldn't mind an extra toughness, 1 less CMC or haste on him, though for the last one we have Fervor :P

I love this card. It's the kind of card a new player can look at and fall in love with the discard ability, then when they finally learn how to play, love the card because of the first ability and still have the card be good! (in slower casual metas/multiplayer).
I had this kind of experience with drogskol reaver. When i first started playing magic, I got an M13 starter kit, and inside was a drogskol reaver in the Dark Ascension pack, which I thought was crazy as a 3/5 double strike flying lifelink. I also managed some good spirits such as drogskol captain, so I made a spirit tribal as my first deck. Now, after having learned the game and understanding what sorts of abilities are really powerful, I appreciate its ability to draw a ton of cards and still use it in casual decks.
I think WOTC needs to make more cards like this. Cards that look awesome to a new player for one reason, but actually ARE good, even if not in a competitive format, for different reasons.

Is it me, or does that orb in his hand look like a miniature of the orb in Merciless Eviction?
Actually that's made me see both cards completely differently. Originally I thought he was stopping mid battle to play with his little experiment. Now I'm starting to think that he noticed the big orb from Merciless Eviction before anyone else did, when the spell was first cast, and was trying to figure out what it was going to do. Unfortunately, he couldn't figure out a way to stop it in time...

Guys, I need some help. I always play casual and I cant figure out what his second ability will do when discarding a split card such as Turn//Burn. Do I have to declare which spell I am discarding and take the cmc from that? But it is considered a single multicolored spell when in your library or hand, so wouldn't it always be 5? I looked at both this cards rulings and Turn//Burns and have found no help. I gave this card a 3 out of 5 because while he is certainly powerful, he is too powerful. He is either countered or immediately burned/removed, or it results in me getting focused out. Granted I do try to keep some counter-spells in hand whenever I play him there is only so many you can have and in multi-player it is only a matter of time before someone gets him. This usually occurs before he even loses summoning sickness.

Split cards have two CMCs: one for each side of the card. For abilities like the Chemister's, you add the two CMCs together and it deals that much damage. For Turn/Burn, that's 5 damage.
