Interesting and unique, but just way too fragile, you don't wanna have to wait til turn 7 to start stealing stuff (you have to leave up a counter to protect her)

interesting, but she doesn't really fill the niche i like to run control effects in, namely, control decks, not to mention extreme fragility. Probably best in a merfolk deck except she doesn't fit the tribal, so maybe faeries? either way, requiring lots of creatures has made me a little disappointed.
On the other hand, she does give repeatable permanent control over creatures, so any deck that does manage to fit her in successfully will have a very nice bomb.
Catherine Zeta-Jones seems alright. I mean, you have to play with Lightning Greaves, and other creatures. Or, she could dominate you in a Limited game pretty easily, there's always that.

5 mana for a 1/1. Her effect is only useful if you're running a creature heavy deck. If you're using Blue, then chances are, you are not running a creature heavy deck.
The creature will have 1 power, which is guaranteed less than or equal to the number of creatures you control (you have Beguiler herself).

Not a bad card.... in a different set. I really don't see how this fits in on the plane. Perhaps mind control is simply a part of Gothic Horror I've never heard of. Still, run in a blue/green or white deck and it's pretty good.

Commander Review: this guy blows. Why? Without outside help, it's a very expensive and vulnerable creature, that gives opponents one turn to react, by killing it or protecting their stuff. And IF it survives a turn, it stole one creature, so it does the same as a control magic for example. It only starts to become better after it's been in play, undisturbed, for 3 or more turns. Blatant thievery is a thousand times better. 2/5

@drpvfx
Using Necrotic Ooze or Havengul Lich doesn't help, silly. You need to spam creatures as her abilty reads:
Gain control of target creature with power less than or equal to the number of creatures you control
There are few creatures worth taking with 3 power or less and with many equips, +1/+1 counters and lords pumping creatures it will fall behind without you casing creatures to match the power
If you are playing B/U this set, you might as well play a zombie deck (which prefers to finish opponents off fast), a control deck which does not spam creatures or a mill deck which uses few creatures at all
Many people are more iffed she got a mythic slot than anything else though

It's uncommon because it's theft. (see mind control) It's rare because it's repeatable. (see vedalkin shackles) It's mythic because You keep what you take, even if beguiler dies
b*tch all you want, you're still going to be happy when you open one in a pack. Whether it's limited or otherwise, you're still going to be able to make off the dough when you trade it to a commander fan or a "younger kid who doesn't know the value of cards"
Remember, you take their weakest guys first. and they will have a weaker guy. Just because it doesnt steal their bomb automatically does not make it a bad card. and considering white-blue humans is a token making powerhouse in innestrad block, I really dont think you're going to have trouble taking their best guy on turn six.

I'd like to dispel the myth that if you're playing Blue you won't have enough creatures for this card. That's true if you're classic control like The Deck inspired, but have you really not heard of Wizards? Well, she is one, and there are a decent number of Wizards that like their tribal synergy; i.e., they like a lot of other creatures with the same type. Also, Merfolk. She's not a Merfolk, but in a format like Commander where you can have 20-40 creatures in your deck, I think you can swap one Merfolk for a decent creature stealer. Yes, she costs 5. So does Mind Control. Unlike Mind Control, she dies, you keep the critter you stole. Yeah, it's not perfect, but it's not really bad either.

At the pre-release, I saw this used hilariously. Someone sacrificed a Elder Cathar to Demonmail Hauberk to make this a 7/5 and then beat face with it. The creature stealing was just a bonus. This 1/1 for 5 killed someone through damage.

My opinion on this card, from actually playing her in pre-release sealed (yes its sealed woo dark ascension kinda has weak cards with little removal) was that she auto won every single game she played. Okay maybe not realistic in a more competitive format, but what she does is pretty fun, and turns the tides. Even just her on the field you can take a pesky 1/1 of theirs and either keep it or chump block. The effect essentially snowballs. But to be fair yes her P/T is really low for what it should be. Three P/T would be a bit too generous though (or even haste). Overall fun to play, nice combo potential but its not a superior mythic compared to a few others in Dark Ascension. As for the people saying, if you gave it hexproof/shroud things could get really annoying for your opponent.

Put the enchantment onto Invisible Stalker and begin to amass a large number of humans.
Combine those with said stalker, Azure Mage, AEther Adept, and Delver of Secrets, and you could have a small army powering the Beguiler of Wills ability. the flavor is simple... she's a beguiler of wills: she is able to manipulate the wills of those taken by evil. She uses the power of 'peer-pressure' to bring people back to the side of the humans, but it will only work on those who's "wills" (power) are weaker than the amount of people that are already on your side. Bad person sees good side get bigger: bad person joins the winning side. That simple.
I do love the card, by the way. I used to hate it until I opened 2, I threw them in to my blue deck and realized that it screws the opponent over completely if you play her right. I use her with Swiftfoot Boots and counterspells. Very good late-game. 5/5

Also works *great* in my Simic deck... ironically, much better than the guild's own Cytoplast Manipulator, who is rated much higher despite having a theft ability which is much worse in my experience- not only can Beguiler be Grafted into a better body, she can be protected by Plaxcaster Frogling, and Omnibian makes any creature without protection weak enough to steal 99% of the time.

Works best alongside cards like Snakeform, Ovinize, and Serendib Sorceror, which make it so that you don't need to control a multitude of creatures just to capture one decently powered one. The problem with the multi-creature method is that you're just asking for someone to drop a sweeper and gain massive card advantage. At least something like Snakeform or Sorceror are half decent on their own as pseudo-removal, as well as helping your repeatable Mind Control.
@Zinliah: Turn to Frog or any of the other 1/x spells like Diminish aren't a *guarantee*. It's close to a guarantee, but if they kill the Beguiler in response and she's the only creature that player controlled, when her ability resolves the creature's power (1) will be more than the number of creature's the ability's controller controls (0), so it'll be countered as its target will be illegal. Serendib Sorceror is as close to a guarantee as you're going to get, and even that's not a guarantee due to pumps like Giant Growth or Elesh Norn.
Thats all there is to it. that way the creature will always have less power than how many creature you have.

What Most people tend to overlook is yes, she is a target, but that is a good deal of the beauty of this card. If they don't get rid of it, you start taking creatures, if they do get rid of it, that means they have one less removal spell or field wipe.
Also, if she does stay on the field for any length of time, you can duplicate her, clone her, being a non-legendary has advantages. Put a progenitor mimic, or a followed footsteps on her and watch how fast your opponents start to squirm.
So, having played against this card recently, it is a lot more powerful than you guys seem to think. At the sheer height of competitive, red and black non-creature spells really do make this too risky.
At any other level though, or even at the extremely competitive level if this manages to survie, this thing is evil. Because it is one of those chain reaction cards, where every monster stolen makes the effect more powerful. All it has to do is steal a 1/1 before it can now steal a 2/2. In the decks that run it, it can easily start by stealing a 5/5. The next turn it should be able to steal a 7/7, because you should still be playing at least one creature per turn. And the steal is permanent. Unless a card returns permanents to their owner's control, taking out the beguiler won't give the person their creatures back. Having played against this thing in a few really competitive matches recently, I can guarantee you it is pure evil as the boss of a weenie build. 4/5 stars

I don't see why everyone cares SO MUCH about the fact that it is only a 1/1! I mean, what would you do with it if it was bigger? Attack with it? No, not when you could instead use its ability to steal a creature. IT DOES NOT MATTER THAT IT IS ONLY A 1/1! YOU PLAY IT FOR ITS ABILITY! Seriously, although I don't really think this card is that playable in competitive, people hate it for really stupid reasons. Besides, how big do you want a five-drop with such a good ability to be? What difference would it make? If it was a 3/3, it would still die to most burn.
