the nice thing is that it doesnt actually have to hit the player, it just needs to attack, and at 3/7 he is pretty safe from creatures. Hopefully by the time you have 5 mana, their hand is already destroyed so they wont be able to counter him right away either.

i think he is an awesome card and if u ad tramatize with it its perfact also he is blue black makeing it easy to keep him alive with a counter spell or a kill spell on a strong creature of ur enimy but the only problem with it is he should have flying i mean comeon hes a laviathan

The best part is how he is better than a lot of cards (eg walls, defenders) just by his stats. 5cc for a 3/7? That's fantastic.

Nemesis of Reason/Mind Funeral/Jace Beleren how long could it take? Throw in a Necromancer's Covenant if you go tricolor and you'll be loaded with 2/2 lifelink zombies

This is such a damn good mill card.

Having this in a deck with Mind Funeral and Jace Beleren can deck the hell out of your opponent really fast.

A lot of people are talking about this card...it really could bring mill back some.

So here's a question: If you had two Nemesis of Reason cards in play and you attacked with both of them, would the defending player have to discard 40 cards instead of 20 because the text on each card refers to the name "Nemesis of Reason" instead of say something like, "When this creature attacks..."?
majinara
★★★★☆ (4.1/5.0) (6 votes)
To the guy asking if attacking with two of them mills 20 or 40: it mills 20. When a card mentions it's own name in the text, it refers only to itself, not to other copies.

Nemesis of Reason, much like Grimoire Thief, is one of those cards that forces your opponent to deal with it. If he can't, it's game over, which makes this a great mid-to-end game card. Grimoire Thief is slightly better because of its early playability and the absolute necessity for your opponent to take attention and waste a turn dealing with it which can give you a huge leg up in turn advantage. That aside, Nemesis of Reason has the raw power to be a great finisher, which should give it consideration to anyone playing U/B, not just the mill crowd.

The weak art on this card is the epitome of wasted potential, but that won't stop me from putting two of them in my blue/black discard/control deck that i've owned and played since like 1996. This ugly freak will feed the guiltfeeders in that deck like no other, but i'm concerned that it will be overkill. The upside is that the Nemesis is a win condition in itself as it only has to attack six times (five should be enough) to end the game. Removal is always a problem, but Soul Manipulation is another solid fit for the deck.

This card is a bottle of butt-hurt. He puts players on a 4-5 turn clock, and he has to be killed outright as he's far to big for any normal burn spell, and far to tough for any turn 5 or less creature(s) to handle.
Naegling
★★☆☆☆ (2.8/5.0) (3 votes)
OK, so my question may have an obvious answer, but not 100% clear on the semantics. So, here is the scenario: Player A has the Nemesis attack Player B, who doesn't defend with any of his Defenders. So, since Player B did not defend does he mill the ten, or does he have to assign defenders for the milling effect to trigger?
Ulfhund
★★★☆☆ (3.7/5.0) (6 votes)
Defending player is the person being attacked and has nothing to do with whether they actively defended themselves. If this card is legally declared as an attacker and tapped, it's ability will trigger, regardless of whether it's blocked, unblocked or even survives to the actual combat.

Very nice, vicious mill card =D I've only had it used against me though, not really for me. Yet, I'm afraid the milling will end if I'm attacked and one of my mythic Eldrazi is put into a graveyard. =P When they're put into a graveyard from -anywhere-, their owner shuffles his or her graveyard into his or her library.

Taken from Wikipedia - "Reason is one of the human mental faculty that is able to generate conclusions from assumptions or premises. In other words, it is amongst other things the means by which rational beings propose (specific) reasons and is it is particularly associated with human nature, that which is most unique and essential about human beings."

OP no dooooouuuuubbbbbtttttt. 5 mana for a freekin b/u 3/7, making it an awesome blocker, invulnerable to doomblade and lighting bolt, whichin itself would be spectacular. and since its in a blue deck, there is a good chance that there will be a counterspell in your hand to deal with any white removal. Then. They make it so whenever he attacks he make the opponents mill 10 cards. and with a toughness like 7, he probably wont go anywhere for a while. Ridiculous

this + glimpse of the unthinkable + tome scour + the traume card which mills flaf the deck of the player, equals carnage. And you stay in blue/black all the time so its cool. Compleement it with a bit of mana acceleration (dark ritual) and some counterspells (daze, force of will), you're in for some respect.

This card is insane in Cube drafting, or any drafting in general. Putting an opponent on a 3 turn clock for a 5 mana creature is no joke. Add in that he has 7 toughness which makes him difficult to kill by blocking or burn and is also black, which makes him immune to a variety of black killspells makes him a creature that you need to answer quickly, but is very difficult to answer.

@the-unbeliever
Actually, to be totally fair, hand-to-graveyard is only discarding IF it says "discard". If a spell said "target player puts all the cards from his hand into the graveyard" I believe unless errata'd it would not be "discarding".

This is similar to library-to-hand is not always a draw. Some cards PUT cards into your hand, but you don't actually "draw" them, such as a Demonic Tutor. The same distinction, though less compelling, would be between "playing a creature" and "putting a creature into play".

All that said, neato creature, though I feel that's it's likely a 0-10 mill without some really good protection for it.

Oh and this one time a friend cast Nemesis of..

I find it quite interesting, that this card (not at all entirely, but overall) is outclassed by Jace, Memory Adept. While Jace is easier to just attack and remove, but he is guaranteed to mill 10 each turn (unless you want to do other things), and is harder to use removal on.

I would think that, for the purpose of milling 10, Jace is in the overall better area (once again, not entirely) but I find it funny that Jace seems to get a lot of hate/dislike, while the comments on this card are full of love!

Perhaps magic changes quicker than I expected.
