Jesus christ Wizards, are you ever going to give this some new artwork?

The only set it wasn't in was 8th. Was there a conscious decision to make that set bad?

Damn, another blown chance to bring back Fyndhorn Elves...

Like I said in the M11 version, if you don't run 4 of these in your green deck, you're doin' it wrong!

The utility card to end all utility cards.

Now that others have mentioned it, though, why does the art for a druid look like an elven soldier?

As already mentioned, I was hoping this might at least get some new art. As often as it's played, we could use a refreshed look..

The art is new. They modified one of the pixels in the top right corner.

Alright, I want confirmation about one thing that my friends keep arguing with me about.

I purposefully tap out my mana with this guy out on the field. I get attacked, and I blocked with my Elf.

Before the combat damage phase, I tap it to get the one mana necessary to Giant Growth my elf.

They say that I can't do that because being tapped removes it from combat, because tapped creatures can't block. I have told them many times that I don't believe this is the case, but this knowledge is so ubiquitous among my friends that I can't argue with them without proof. Can anyone verify this for me?

I'd appreciate it.

@joshua, your friends are wrong. That's completely legal, and fun move to *** of your opponents. I do that all the time with green aman fellas like Llanowar Elves and Archdruid. But Giant Growth.. You little devious guy.. But yup. You can tap AFTER you declared it as a blocker. Your friends are right about that tapped creature can't BE DECLARED as a blocker. A minor difference.

In my four years of playing Magic, I've never gotten one of these.

The only reason I could see for them not reprinting it is for one of those stupid reasons like "It mentions more than one in its name."

Those who said it's only one elf, so call it Llanowar Elf.

Name of card is Llanowar Elves, name of creature is Elf Druid.
So you could suppose this Elf Druid is "leading" an army of Elves behind him.
Hence the name of the card.

With good draw, I once got 5 creatures and 4 mana on field by my third turn.
Lots of help from these guys.

For accelerating my mana and being incredible efficient with Elvish Archdruid, I love these guys.
For making a reference back to Llanowar, from the time of Invasion and Urza's Saga, Iove these guys.
And, above everything else, for making it possible to me to snob n00bs who can't pronounce or spell Llanowar, I really love these guys.

The art, name and class don't match....but a brilliant card nonetheless this card has played many first turns.

Due to an iPhone autocorrect mistake, I now always call this card Lawnmower Elves. It somehow fits.

Look, it ramps mana. That's what it does.

T1: Forest, L. Elf
T2: Forest, 3*L. Elf
T3: Forest. You now have 7 mana, have fun. Obviously, you won't get this much, but it illustrates its power and usefulness in a mana ramp deck.

I once got three forests and four of these guys in my opening hand for my elf deck. turn1; play a forest tap it and cast an elf. turn two; put down another forest and tap both forests and the elf thats already in play to cast the next three elves.turn three; draw a card its a forest put it down tap three forests and play the archdruid i drew last turn. turn four; i now have nine/ten mana lying around... time for another archdruid! turn five; blightsteel colussuss.turn 6 ezuri renegade leader. turn 7; the other gut is !@#$ed

the most Lightning Bolted card in Magic? Maybe not, but it's damn close.

Also, if your elf deck isn't winning by turn 5 after opening with this guy, you're doing it so very wrong.

@JoshuaFH, I'm sorry to say, your friends are right. You have to tap it to block, and you can't tap it twice.

Guys, normally people are filled with nostalgia about this card because they've used it so much.
I feel nostalgia about this cards because a lot of guys who used to be in my playgroup always played with this card.
We were mostly timmies back in the old days (some 8 years ago). Most of us had this and it even became VERY predictable as to what the guy's gonna do on T1.

Me : Plains, go. What deck are you playing with by the way?
Friend : My green/white deck. Forest and I play--
Me : Llanowar Elves, what a surprise.
The game starts with smiles on our faces because of this card.

@Deadhandlord7777

Um, no. Blocking does not cause creatures to tap. Never has. Attacking does unless the creature has vigilance. When you block, you can totally tap the blocking creature to use an activated ability.

Arbor Elf is returning in M13, probably to take this guy's place for a bit. Don't worry, he'll be back in M14.

@Dabok: More like:
> Me : Plains, go. What deck are you playing with by the way?
> Friend : My green/white deck. Forest and I play--
> Me : Llanowar Elves?
> Friend : Nope! Avacyn's Pilgrim (Or Noble Hierarch if said friend is the Monopoly guy)

I would bet that
>Forest, Landowar Elves, go
is the sixth most common first turn in MtG, after
>Basic Land, go
for each of the five colors. What do y'all think? And yes, I spelled it Landowar on purpose.

This is great ramp. Getting one in your opening hand is extremely powerful. You can really put your opponent in a bad spot with a turn 2 Leatherback Baloth

This card is one of the best for mana ramping. If you are doing it properly, your opponent will be too preoccupied with the massive things you have on turn 3 or 4 to deal with the 1/1 creature that makes it all happen.

I think it is coincidence, but "Llanowar Elves" is an anagram of "War on all elves."

Back in the day, tapping "turned off" cards. Think about all the artifacts that have been errata-d to only do something when untapped (howling mine and for a while winter orb). It used to be that when a blocker got tapped they didn't do damage (look at Master of Arms). That rule is long gone, so giant growth away.
