Weird how they split the comments between the faces.
I mean they are the same card, so you'd think they'd have the same rating.

Anyway, I don't really get this card. I think they could have done a little more with this guy as a transformer. It is a good card, don't get me wrong, but it works very strangely.

3/3 with flying is about the right cost, but gives it token generation and transform ability it becomes a VERY power lord. Note that this card does not require your opponent to transform, you can create your own condition. Even if you don't start off with enough vampires, Keeper will make it so.
Powerful creature.

I don't get why this doesn't just auto-transform. I mean, why wouldn't you transform it if you could? And if you have five mana, what are the chances that you can't pay a single black mana?

Absolutely brilliant performance at my local pre-release event. Very powerful once he's active. Generating a 4/4 flyer to use as a chump blocker is absolutely brilliant. Especially great with my Stromkirk Patrol and Crossway Vampire beating down for a lot of unblockable damage.

Really shouldn't have been a Transform card, IMO. Just give it "If you control five or more Vampires, Vampire creatures you control get +2/+2." and it's practically the same thing.

I've been seeing a good number of comments about how the different sides are the same card, how they shouldn't have each side split up in the comments and ratings. Well, here's the thing. They AREN'T the same card. Just as with the flip cards in Kamigawa and the split cards, each side/face/half has different pros and cons. Hanweir Watchkeep/Bane of Hanweir and Civilized Scholar/Homicidal Brute are very good examples of this. They both serve different purposes, and so should be rated by their effectiveness at doing their job.
With Bloodline Keeper, the transform is more of a total improvement. I've been comparing it to my love, Myr Propagator. While I can pull some incredible things with the myr, Bloodline is the stronger card. Being a 4 mana 3/3 flier, it's already more cost-efficient, and it creates the tokens for free. Once you have your group, if you don't already when you cast him, everyone doubles in power. All in all, a powerful card.

And then they were all like "BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE", and it turns into a hideously powerful lord. Thank you Vampire Jesus.

This guy and his transformation is a blast.. That mana cost for transforming is suggesting that this card is not broken.. If it hits the table unanswered, he freakin' end games.. Two of this lord out transformed and it gives huge buff to your vampire army.. Not to mention that all vampires are Sliths with Rakish Heir or Curse of Stalked Prey out, you'll know soon enough who's stronger between Vampires and Werewolves..

@DarthParallax Not really rising through the ranks, but brooding his own 'family', so to speak. The vamps of this plane seem very family oriented (i.e. the Markov line) so it would make sense that they would become more powerful as they spread their line.
@DeathDark Never happen. You can't really say that since it can be over two turns. Kargan Dragonlord costs (That's ) but he still saw a lot of play, considering that price.

I think that this might be a transform card because
a) for text space reasons
b) because transform cards are either the greatest thing or the worst thing ever, and either way that means you should try to do as much with them as possible in Set 1 to give them the best chance of 'hitting it' with people in case we never see them again.
c) the flavor of the transform is that Vampires can all transform. either that, or it's showing a vampire rising through the aristocratic ranks. idkn.
@OmegaSerris, yes but just because you said a true thing doesn't make it the same as a reasonable argument-
the 'brooding his own family' explanation to me fits a level-up creature more than a transform creature.
to deserve an enitre new name/title, new art/uniform, new everything, I believe that it must be some kind of promotion. Shivan Dragon get more powerful when it breathes fire. Doesn't mean it transforms.
Tons of cards in Magic have had 'this creature becomes a more powerful creature' mechanics. The transforms ones are slightly different though. For one thing, unlike Level-up creatures, this templating allows the changing of not only type (seen on Werewolves) but color (seen on that freaky scary demon child thing that white, then black) The closest creature in the rest of Magic that's like a Transform card, but isn't, is Figure of Destiny IMO- it changes type with every line, and really feels like its not just gaining EXP, but evolving like a Pokemon, into a new creature. Kargan Dragonlord, for all his mechanical similarities to the Kithkin Warrior Spirit Avatar, just doesn't have that same flavor. Of course, to turn Figure of Destiny into a transform card would require QUADRUPLE-FACED technology. I do not think we are quite there. yet. :P
He isnt changing as much as most of the other Transforms dudes, but this Vamp lord is definitely Evolving.
a is the most probably reasoning.

A brutally powerful card. Run 4 of these. With other vampires for support, you'll transform it rather quickly (especially if you've been dropping a vampire on every turn leading up to this, save for maybe the first turn). If you protect it with shroud/hexproof (swiftfoot boots is my favorite), you can even protect it from sacrifice removal (geth's verdict, tribute to hunger, etc.) by saccing the token. Run alongside Falkenrath Noble as well and use the tokens as chump blockers to slowly chip away at your opponent. It's a highly versatile card -- both offensive (transform and attack with a swarm of 4/4 flyers) and defensive (go ahead and defend with the tokens, they're replaceable) in nature. Altar's Reap is even arguably better than Sign in Blood with this. You have a replaceable token to sacrifice, and you can trigger effects from Falkenrath Noble or Kalastria Highborn.
Swiftfoot Boots is this guy's best friend. Dropping it any turn before turn 5 means when you drop Bloodline keeper you're also dropping a token. Pull that in two turns and you can ensure 5 vampires out on the field no problem. 5/5, this is one serious *** powerhouse. 4-of.

It's certainly a tangent but the vampire subtype has always made me interested that it stands alone. In other words, you don't have human vampires and goblin vampires for example. You know, the whole implied race and class thing. Well, it would have drastically changed the ay the Innistrad block works anyway.

In advance, sorry Wizards. Sorry everyone who loves this card.
It's powerful, good, etc, but I don't understand why Vampires needed ANOTHER lord. Is it so they could be the Merfolk of Standard? I don't know. But the one thing Vampires needed was something that could compete with Huntmaster of the Fells. Something really flavorful, like Morbid triggers, deathtouch on side, lifelink on the other. The reason I'm posting this comment on this card is because there's no other card for it. Falkenrath Aristocrat IS mythic, like my made-up card would be, but it's multicolored. Olivia is also multicolored and legendary. This card is a transforming vampire, like I'd want, and is rare and mono black.
This card gets 4.5/5 from me. But it doesn't really compete with Huntmaster.

Personally? I prefer this to Vampire Nocturnus. Of course, I run both in my monoblack vamp tribal. Ran with 3x of each of them, and after a number of matches, removed one of my Vampire Nocturni for a fourth Bloodline Keeper. Vampire Nocturnus is too reliant on black cards, and if you topdeck a land, it grounds all of your non-fliers, even running monoblack. This produces a constant effect once you can transform it, and coupled with Liliana of the Dark Realms, you will have no problem getting the required 5 vamps and transforming him. Especially now that Shadow Alley Denizen has been released.
