"Common....nothing is common about Ulamog's Crusher. The END IS NEAR. The Eldrazi are here."

i expect every deck will roll 4 of these if they can. their common rarity kinda makes it easy as hell to do so

The best Eldrazi of the set ... since it s playable without reanimation ...

In any set that wasn't about the end of a plane, this guy would have been a rare.
Still can't believe he's a common.

I got a copy of this guy at the prerelease, and whenever he came out, I won my game. In Rise of the Eldrazi limited, the player who gets out one of the giant Eldrazi first tends to win the game. This guy is arguably the easiest of all the Eldrazi to play (one might be able to argue for Hand of Emrakul), and it makes it really hard for your opponent to play the Eldrazi Titan in his hand when he starts loosing 2 lands a turn. Annihilator 2 is much, much better than Annihilator 1 (looking at you, Hand of Emrakul). Attacking each turn is rarely a downside, and as long as you pack spot removal and Umbra auras, it becomes a negligible problem. I'm not sure how this guy will fare in Standard, but in RotE limited, he's a monster.

Relatively easy to cast, and even if he gets blocked and killed your opponent is down a minimum of two permanents. A fun card.

Big enough to be a threat, but peculiarly he doesn't feel too overpowered given the environment of Rise of the Eldrazi limited. A pretty fun card to play with or against, actually.

It gets chump blocked EVERY turn, like all the Eldrazi, but the real fun comes from watching your opponent try to figure out what to sacrifice.

I would LOVE to see this played swiftly by cards such as the Urza lands (Urza's Power Plant, Urza's Mine, Urza's Tower) and cards such as Energy Tap to ever MORE on the field...HAHA!!
Eldrazi...possibilities!!

this guy is awesome. it's eight (COLOULESS!) mana, which isn't really a problem now, 8/8, and annihilator 2? and who cares about attacking each turn! You would most likely do it anyway!

This is amazing simply because of its rarity. One of my favourite, if not my favourite, of the Eldrazi cards, based on the fact that it's awesome but also viable (big difference between 8 mana and 15; 8 I can afford to pay). Also, there's no incentive NOT to Elvish Piper it into play as it has not effect that cares about casting it, unlike the big trio.

This guy is a terror... relatively easy to drop by sacrificing and/or accelerating, and he blows up tons of permanents once he arrives.

So many different combos.... egads. Could be fun to throw a Mammoth Umbra on him for the vigiliance, extra protection, and boost to stats.

Kind of absurd how it's downside is your 8/8 has to attack every turn, like you wouldn't be doing that anyways. Eldrazi may be the first in a long line of big creatures to simply not have a real downside. Really makes you wonder what insane mana costs can actually be achieved now with rise of the eldrazi, is autochton wurm suddenly a playable card? Makes novablast wurm look very very playable.

Extremely solid card. Cheap (in terms of the Eldrazi, anyway), efficient and savage. Removal bait, yes, but honestly, left unchecked this thing can win games by itself.

For me, this card defines Rise limited better than any other card. I love the Annihilator mechanic - it creates win conditions so different than what we've seen before. This guy can be chump blocked, and he probabaly will, but a slow (but not too slow) destruction of your opponent's board will ensue. If your opponent doesn't find an answer in a few turns he may scoop with 20 life.

I had my fun with this card, so there's no reason to keep Pauper's (commons only) probably most powerful combo to myself anymore:

Turn 1: Island, Careful Study (discard Ulamog's Crusher)
Turn 2: Swamp, Exhume

Build some Madness deck around it, and you're good to go.

COMMON!?!?!?!?!?!?
This guy is more powerful than most legendary creatures, wtf, COMMON???
Must be a misprint.
What is wizard's doing? having the big mythic rare trio is more understandable, but something like this should in no way be common. I'd hate to see the card game I love so much getting turned into a greyish blob of science fictiony looking creatures.
Pathrazer is even worse, annihilator 3 and blocking limitation on an uncommon... Damn it wizards, this is why we have a ban on Eldrazi annihilator creatures in the house rules where I usually play, they'll ruin the game. Hope the June release won't be based on this anniilator BS.

@Sironos: Divide your rant in 2 parts, one of which a fully agree and one of which i fully disagree with.

I hate the fact that this is printed at common to create a interesting limited environment at the expense of constructed fun.

But, I cannot understand your rage against these "sciencefictiony" creatures. It is absolutely awesome what Wizards did in this set. A game like Magic can't be all around green Elves and red Goblins forever!

P.S.
This Eldrazi madness does not even last long, actually, while there is no "June release", there is one in July, and it is a core set, no gimmicky theme at all.

I am sorry to say it,but this card is a cheat.I got it on a deck builder's toolkit, and it is extremely powerful, especially for amateurs. It is TOO much,to put an 8/8 to a colorless creature(which makes it easier to cast) with Annihilator 2 ability. And make it a rare card for Magic's sake.

I wonder what effect the Eldrazi have had on pauper Magic? I still see mostly the same goblin decklists, but it would be cool if Eldrazi ramp was a viable pauper strategy. Hideous End and Doom Blade aside, I imagine most pauper decks use removal like Disfigure and Lightning Bolt to deal with all the weenie-aggro decks, so perhaps a big fat Eldrazi creature would be hard to deal with? The spawn tokens make good chump-blockers in the early game too.

Great card, especially as a common. I've been playing magic since the 4th edition (yes, the 4th edition) and for a while the cards had gone soft; each successive set only produced weaker, inferior cards. Remember demonic tutor? That will never be reprinted as legal. But thankfully while some spells have gotten weaker, the creatures have recently gotten stronger. There is a power creep, but I don't mind it. Actually I like it.

I have a limited budget, and I can't always afford $$$100 tarmogoyf. This card rounds out my peasant re-animator nicely. It also fits into my pauper re-animator. Why do all the great creatures have to be rare? I applaud this common card. Great decision. Good common card. As for the few complaints, re-animator can be situational and inconsistent. While sometimes you will have a great draw and a 2nd turn creature, other times it will be the 5th or 6th turn. This card will help pauper, and make re-animator competitive. Power to common people.

Indeed.

"REMEMBER WHEN 8/8s for 8 with a cool special ability were RARE???????"

Nope, but I remember when 8/8s for 8 were not only rare, but also had drawbacks!!! :P

I might throw some of these in green ramp, enough ways to give it trample, and then just start Juggernaughting your opponent...

under costed, honestly I play black so I know all about mana adjustment for "negative" abilities.
attacking each turn is something you would probably do anyway with a creature like this in play.
and not having trample is not an excuse to cost less unless it happens to be green.
not to mention it's plenty easy to give it trample.
my old artifact would be able to easily get this out by turn 5 or so (that deck was a little unfocused and by turn 10 I had a good 15 mana floating around and only spending about 7 of it on activated abilities each turn, was a casual deck anyway.)

An 8/8 for {8} cmc is good.
An 8/8 for {8} that could fit into any deck is even better.
An 8/8 for {8} with Annihilator 2 is a steal. I don't care if it *has* to attack each turn if able; I was already going to attack with it anyways.

Fans: rares and mythic rares are too good! They make Magic all about how much money you have, cos commons are all strictly worse!

Wizards: *Releases Ulamog's Crusher*

Fans: What? This is too good to be a common. Should be a rare!

OT I think this is ok. I've seen opponents use 8 mana to produce vastly more terrifying things though. I would always rather face this down than any of the titans at 6.

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (2 votes)
@Darkgnosis Agreed

To put some perspective:

T1: Khalni Garden
T2: Forest, Overgrown Battlement
T3: Forest, Oracle of Mul Daya, Forest
T4: Forest, Primeval Titan, Eye of Ugin, Eldrazi Temple
T5: Attack, Eldrazi Temple, Eldrazi Temple, Eye of Ugin in to Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre
T6: Cast Ulamog, destroy permanent, then tutor and cast Kozilek, Butcher of Trust in the same turn

Even if it doesn't happen that way, multiple overgrown battlements and you can hard cast the lords anyways. Not to mention that a 6/6 trampler to the face hurts, a lot.

These guys are common for a reason, it's easy to get them out by simply ramping a little and some eldrazi spawns. Kitchen table fodder.

As others have mentioned; Pauper fiend. He's a terror to deal with when he's cheated out. Luckily he's not untouchable. I like him as a MEGA ULTRA CREATURE to show friends learning Magic what a creature can really do and how to assess a creature's cost compared to value. Of course this doesn't really go to demonstrate some more powerful creatures, like Dark Confidant, but that's a separate lesson.

I just get a laugh out of how many people here seem to think that bumping this guy up to rare would "fix" him, when in reality all that would do is prevent poor players from being able to enjoy the entire theme of the Eldrazi set. What use is a set where all the theme cards are rare?

For that matter, rarity hasn't limited anything in Constructed play since Unlimited - all it does it make good cards more expensive, and I don't see why that is something to encourage. As Black Lotus demonstrated, making a card a rare doesn't balance it in any way, and it's not as if people are playing the Crusher vs. the Eldrazi titans!

★★★☆☆ (3.0/5.0) (1 vote)
This is actually my favorite Eldrazi. Sure, Ulamog is cool, but when will you have 15 mana? 8, though... 8 can be done. The Crusher is exactly what its name suggests: a solid, scary beatstick, and at 8 mana it's a lot more playable than its bigger cousins.

For those complaning about eldrazi in Pauper...
Yes, Pauper now has Ulamog's Crusher and Hand of Emrakul, but it has always all the two- or three-mana common removal spells, the best ones:
- Terror
- Doom Blade
- Unmake
- Topple
- Smite the Monstruous
... should I continue???

Using math, we can deduct that this guy is 20% less dangerous to planeswalkers than a group of 10 squirrels.

When you think of it that way, the Eldrazi are pretty wimpy.

Either that, or those are some tough squirrels.

You know the funny scary thing about Zendikar Block???

It was Indiana Jones World....and then they put Aliens in it.

What is it about Wizards of the Coast that they were able to pull this off and be awesome, and George Lucas, who pulled off 'Super advanced technology.....a long time ago.....back when laser swords were better than mega death rays' couldn't?!

Man...thinking about it...I don't think Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had any INHERENT faults. I think Lucas was just too lazy to make it as great as it could have been. Wow. Although it probably also helps that Dungeons and Dragons has given Wizards a lot of practice at this- it has this weird habit of starting out in Lord of the Rings Land in the Heroic Tier, and ending up in Call of C'thulhu Land by the time you get Epic.

This is quite simply the biggest, gnarliest pauper-cubeable creature ever printed. People just love playing this guy. He's a great finisher for ramp and control decks. If pauper had more reanimation effects beyond Exhume, then getting passed a pack with a Crusher in it would be great incentive for drafting that archetype.

And then get 2-for-1'd by lightning bolt?

I'd rather run this guy with a haste enabler than run eldrazi con***ion and a 1/1. The only reason eldrazi constription is good is because of things that exploit auras. A silly deck in alara-zendikar used this with sovereigns of lost alara.

This card is a monster in pauper. So much fun.

One of my friends pulled 3 of these and Kozilek at the pre-release. He cast all 3 in sequence followed by Kozilek in one of his games, and his opponent was trampled flat under all of those annihilate triggers.
Best limited format I've ever played.
