Awesome Art She Looks Like A Cenobite, And One KickAss Vampire Best In Worldwake If Not Third Or Fourth Best To Nocturnus, Nighthawk And Bloodghast, Anyways 5/5 One Swamp Is Not A Big Deal By The Way

This is one of the best Vampires in the block so far. Stops your opponent from burning off you small guys, unless they want to take the damage.

Makes Sanguine Bond a bit stronger if your using it in your vampire deck. I'm teetering on the fence whether to use 2 or 3 these days.

Vampires are sooo powerful right now. This card takes a strong clan and makes it really powerful. Nasty.

This makes burning off the little guys a bad idea. And vamps have a lot of little guys.

This card is pretty nuts. Wizards apparently really wants Vampires to become a Deck-to-beat, huh? It's a 2/2 two-drop by itself. The trigger is a Vampiric Touch for just a single black mana instead of . (Or a Syphon Soul to name the more known version, yet the other one suits better for two reasons). This means each time one of your Vampires dies, the difference between your and your opponent's life total will increase by four if you can afford to pay . Sounds pretty insane, especially when realizing that club Vampire also includes Bloodghast, who will return with each land.
Regarding flavor she is also pretty nuts - boasting with Mindless Nulls? Now that's the last thing a Magic player would do.

Especially good if you have a way to sac. vamps every turn. Especially good with Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet and/or Crovax the Cursed. With Kalitas, you're sacing vamps to get vamp tokens with the same power and toughness. Which is useful with vamps who have no useful abilities once they're on the battlefield (Gatekeeper of Malakir, I'm looking at you), vamps who have drawback effects (Vampire Lacerator), or ones who are about to die anyway. Combo Kalitas with Bloodghast and your combo gets super-deadly. With Crovax, you're pumping him in addition to hurting your opponent. Only problem with him is you have to sac a creature each turn or he loses some power.
So basically, your opponent's gonna be in pain no matter what strategy you use....
I can't help but notice that it doesn't limit how much you can spend for each trigger...

@Blindthrall - you can only pay the cost once per trigger. it says "you may pay B" meaning you either choose to pay B or not, but can invest no more mana than just a single B.
Probably the best part about this dude is that she makes all those supposedly futile attacks with your bloodghast a real threat now! And won't you feel cute when your opponent blocks the Bloodghast with a fatty, only to have you Urge to Feed the big guy. Now your opponent is down a 5/5 creature, your vamps are buffed up, they lost 2 life, and you gained 2, all for the cost of 3 black mana, a card from hand, and the bloodghast! Wicked sweet!
And Day of Judgment or any other form of mass removal becomes a very painful choice for your opponent now. If you leave your lands open, your opponent will have to ask themselves "Do i clear the board, lost 10 life, and give them 10? or do i hope i can topdeck something that can stop this already present threat?" In most situations, they'll have to go with the wiping the field, because it's unlikely for anything good to happen otherwise. But if they're bloodied (<10 life) they'll lose the game! What this really means is that you'll have a solid tool for finishing an opponent that's real low on life. And today in standard Mass removal is really the only tool many decks have for dealing with masses of creatures. Total win for vampires.
Be ready to see this guy targeted for spot removal the moment she comes out. But, with so many other threats that vampires put out, (Nocturnus, Nighthawk, Bloodghast etc.) your opponent will never be able to kill all the right things!

a great vamp card to have against board sweeps. Lets your bloodghasts swing away every turn. Highborn + Bloodghast + Aristocrat + Blade of the Bloodchief = fun.

great vampire and great ability, but not as useful when the other strong deck is white and white do not send creature to the graveyard, they remove them from the game, making here ability useless outside of combat.
Still easy to go around that ability, by using, path to exile, journey to nowhere, oblivion ring, Admonition angel...
But still make your white opponent to think twice before blocking your bloodghast if they don't have path to exile in there hand (or if they want to hold it for when Nocturnus will come out)

I find the art terribly misleading. It appears more like it should function along the lines of Rotlung Reanimator. (how awesome would that be?)
That being said, this isn't nearly the powerhouse some make it out to be. Yes, its very powerful, but most competitively viable vampire decks tend to tap out alot.
She lends herself better to slower control-aggro decks over the full-blown aggro route.

So if i lose 5 vamps to day of judgement, i need to pay 5 x {B} to gain 10 and have the opponent lose 10 life? Or do i only need to pay {B}? Please help me clear this up!

If you lose five vampires, this ability will trigger for each one of them. So you would have to pay {B}{B}{B}{B}{B}.

Use this card with Bloodthrone Vampire and Vampire Aristocrat and it is amazing!

I guess Wizards wants everyone to know that vamps are black's signature tribe right now, because man are they ever pushing the deck! Considering how low most vampire decks' mana curves are, they'll have plenty of leftover fuel to abuse the crap out of the Highborn's ability. Crazy strong, and definitely worth five stars.

This is insane 2/2 drop for only and fits perfectly in a vampire deck. Makes your opponent think twice about killing your weenies.
At 2 mana you've put a card on the table you're opponent will probably want to address sooner than later. They'll probably address it sooner and more often than not you'll have a card for card trade off and they'll they'll loose 2 you'll gain 2. That'll be about the size of it. Now carry on presenting threats and hope they run out of answers. Gate Keeper of Malakir guarantee's card advantage so maybe it's better.

Never before, has your opponent been so hesitant to drop that Day Of Judgment! You got 2 Bloodghast, a Vampire Nighthawk, and one of these, they kill everything and you drain 'em for 8 and gain eight. I've beaten my brother once or twice by just dying hahaha. And the beauty of it is, you drop a lnad and bring back all your Bloodghasts!

@ If i had 4 of these out, and one vampire dies. Could i just pay 1 {B} and that would trigger all four? or would i have to pay one {B} for each highborn's ability? You have to pay for each ability, therefore for each copy of this card.

What bothers me about this is the unfitting flavor text. Nulls? An enormous contingent of them? Would be more fitting in a vampire that made zombies (not to mention that I need a 2-drop for my zombie deck).

What the flavor text doesn't mention, is that the families of higher status are the ones with fewer nulls.

add a Blood Artist, youve got a dying creature dealing 3 for 1 measly little black mana, and 1 without. Either way you gain that much life. Wrath of God, anyone?

If you like this kind of effect: Blood Artist or even Falkenrath Noble is probably better. Yes even in an Vampire deck.
You will rarely have spare Mana to spend. Blood Artist works for free and even with enemy creatures.
Often is it just the question: What happens more often: a) Vampires dieing or b) Creatures overall dieing. If b) is the case, and especially in multiplayer it will: Blood Artist is better.

This often triggers me to do a mini-boardwipe (pyroclasm, infest, etc..) or standard removal as soon as I see it. I don't want to see that mana open to start really draining life. Smart players will probably use this on T3 when their draw allows, giving removal protection and allowing you to hold Disfigure (or similar) back. T4 gets even better (2 vamps for mini-wipes can be turned into bleed, and allowing 2-drop removal; of which is black's specialty.
