My mulldrifter deck is gonna love this guy.

Venser is probably the only one who can use his first ability to 'cleanse' -1/-1 counters of your creatures, a great deal consider that you don't see many cards that can do this.
And here's a possible combo for Elspeth Tirel and Venser working together, with Elspeth creating tokens the first time in the turn, then let Venser exile her, returning her with 4 loyalty couners again. You can keep doing this each turn till you're satisfied withthe number of soldier tokens at your command, and they also act as your shield against constant harassment, three soldiers each turn to block your opponent's desperate assault.
When you felt you had enough, proliferate or wait a turn for Elspeth to charge up, have Venser phase himself out of the game before letting Elspeth clean the board, while he comes back with his 3 counters. Sound strategy, bet most players didn't think of that but it works.
Oh, and um, Bathory, care to explain your issues with 'arms'? '''>_>'''

@Zero_eight I don't think his ultimate can be used to take out Progenitus.

Hell this guy might as well be Phyrexian for all the pro-infect powers he has! I mean if you make everything unblockable and infect the hell out of the opponent so easily with his second ability which is just so.... *shudders in pleasure*

To go slightly off topic; no, his ultimate absolutely cannot remove Progenitus. To make it easier, just read Progenitus as: Shroud, Unblockable, Prevent all damage delt to him, and remove or unequip anything attached to him.
Now I have a question: could you use Venser's ability to exile a ball lightning or putrefax to keep it from dieing at end of turn? or do the creatures' end step triggers kill them upon returning?

That +2 seems pretty bonkers. If you have a venser and an aether adept, and the other guy has, say, a baneslayer angel, don't you just win? Easily? Even without creatures, blinking kabira crossroads or halimar depths seems really good, and on the creature front, wall of omens and sea gate oracle just found a new best friend, as if they weren't good enough already. If you special ETB trigger friends die, sun titan can get them all back for you, at double the regular rate, thanks to Venser!
Sphinx of lost truths also just got a lot better. This guy seems to have a whole archetype just built for him already.

Got him last night in a constructed tourny. Everything works with this guy!
The first ability: It removes poison counters, brings another landfall effect, untaps creatures, and other plenty of combos
Second ability....Pump a infection creature....
Third ability...An absolutely fun ultimate, pay a spell to do something to your benefit, exile something for free. Perfect for getting rid of grafted exoskeleton and a creature attached to it
Then eventually while you are controlling everything: TWO Emblems out!

@steelpommel: How does he remove poison counters? Those are placed on the player, not a permanent. You can't exile a player from the game and return him or her to the battlefield under your control at the beginning of the next end step. Do you mean -1/-1 counters from your creatures or something?

The blink does little, yea titans. That being the case, you can't start doing that until after you have actually DROPPED one, which may even be a turn later. Unblockable stuff is awesome, but U/W as of late has had few guys in them, the majority of which have evasion or are have abilites that help get them through otherwise. Finally, no self-respecting opponent is going to allow you to even dream of ultimating with this, so your best bet is to unblockablize your already evasive dudes for three turns, the end result being that you wished you played a more relevant card. Senarios are cool and all, guys, but they are circumstantial. They will be few times when this actually proves to be worth the 5 mana you spent on it.

No one saw that with the first ability, you can return to your control a creature that your opponent took control of before? Since it says "a permanent you own", that stolen creature becomes a legal choice :D
Can cure your infected creatures, or just make all your creatures unblockable for a -1.....Oh yeah exiling permanents every time you cast a spell the rest of the game is ridiculous (especially since its any permanent whether its Jace or a Valakut land). Definitely one of the 3 best planeswalkers of all time and definitely the best to be used within scars. 5/5

His -1 ability is excellent for a final infect charge from your creatures, and his +2 combos nicely with the trigons. pay 6 mana of one color to replenish my 3 charge counters? How about i bounce them and pump up my planeswalker for 2. I don't even need to talk about his ultimate, because anyone who can't figure out a good use for it doesn't know how to play MTG well enough to deserve such an awesome card. @SpartacusX -- No you can't use Venser that way. You can cast Venser if you have Leyline of Anticipation and enough mana on the field but you can't use his abilities. His abilities aren't cards.
@Wraique --- No. Ball Lightning and Putrefax will still die. Venser puts them into play at the beginning of the End Step. Which means as soon as the Clean Up Phase arrives(which is after the End Step begins) Ball Lightning, Putrefax, and any other card that gets sacrificed at end of turn still goes bye bye. (Read the rulings they simplify it better than I do).
When a card states "the next end step" that means the VERY next End Step. Which is the end of the turn it happened.
@BloodDragon --- Yes. If a card states "When ~~!~~ enters the battlefield" or "when ~~!~~ leaves the battlefield" those abilities will trigger, unless another spell or ability(even it's own) prevents it from happening.
This card gets a 5/5 stars from me.

No, you can't get it with the emblem, because you still have to target it with the effect of the emblem. It doesn't matter if the emblem isn't a card, it's still an effect, which Progenitus can't be ganked by since you need to target it.
You can however, still get it with effects like Malfegor, Consuming Vapors, or Steel Hellkite, though 10 mana is just silly, And you could get it with Wraith effects.

@Teakon:
Regarding Ball Lightning and Putrefax, they would stay in play if exiled by Venser. Since they aren't on the battlefield at the beginning of the end step, their abilities will not trigger. The delayed trigger for them to return to the battlefield will go on the stack, but when they actually return to the field it is no longer the beginning of the end step. It's too late for their sacrifice abilities to trigger.
Knight-Captain of Eos. Prevent all combat damage on every one of your opponent's turns for and get an extra soldier token to boot if you want to prevent combat damage on your turn as well. Just gets better if you're running Elspeth Tirel in the same deck.

For those saying he does easily to bolt, read up on your rules. You can't a planeswalker as soon as it comes into play. The active player has to pass priority to the other player before they can play instants, and since +2 loyalty counters is part of the cost of Venser's first ability, Venser will have 5 loyalty before any bolts may be cast by an opponent.
And to those saying he's in the wrong colors, guess again. Try building U/W control with this guy, Sun Titan, Frost Titan, and Wall of Omens, and then tell me he's in the wrong colors. The unblockable ability is just icing on the cake, and can win when your opponent has an army of blockers, is at 12 and you have 2 titans. It's been done.
The point of this guy is to blink your permanents. Blink Sun Titan, play Day of Judgment, EoT get back Sun Titan and Wall of Omens and draw a card. It's pretty good.
And yes, the text says "target permanent you own." So after your opponent plays Volition Reins on your Jace, you can Venser your Jace back to your side.
I give it a 4.5/5. Solid card.

Let me know what you think as far as this combo goes... Venser + Elspeth (knight-errant) for an indestructible/unblockable token deck. Use the same strategy you would for Elspeth Tirel to blink her and pump out tokens, get your army of 1/1s, pump elspeth all the way to get her emblem and finally use Venser's second ability to make them all unblockable for a one-shot win.
Load the deck with stall, extra token production, and maybe one or two fatties and it should be a winner.

@ Teakon/re: Ball Lightning: That's actually not true to the best of my understanding. "513.3. If a permanent with an ability that triggers “at the beginning of the end step” enters the battlefield during this step, that ability won’t trigger until the next turn’s end step."
If Venser exiles Ball Lightning, it survives until the next player's End Step because it misses the point where End Step triggers are checke (if this were not the case, two Glimmerpoint Stags could bounce each other as an infinite loop, which is way crazier).
He would work VERY well with the Blue and/or White Ally creatures from the Zendikar block... Which is currently still standard by the way... SWEET... :-D3

Personally, I like to use him in a UBW deck, with wall of omens, shriekmaw, angel of despair, and, as major finisher, grave titan. It kind of goes like this:
T5: venser T6: grave titan, bounce --> 10 power worth of creatures. T7: unblockable --> win, most of the time. Or, if your opponent is at ridiculous life totals or something, keep bouncing stuff like the above mentioned ones to eventually completely decimate their board and just finish them off easily. At first sight, he doesn't look like a powerhouse, but...
His +2 ability is so abusable... As has it's been said... Mnemonic Wall for necroing your instants/sorceries (for example Sleep), Sunblast Angel for wipping your opponen't board with necroed Sleep, to bounce some of your allies that don't put tokens on themselves, to restrict your opponent endlessly with Meddling Mage, Filigree Angel for some serious lifegain in an Esper deck, Sky Hussar for untapping your army each turn... possibilities are almost limitless and it's power varies on what you're going to "bounce"
His -1 ability can end your game pretty quickly... you're splashing blue and white. Blue have big fatties, and white have great means to boost them (not to mention white fatties - angels)
His ultimate is clearly devastating and once you successfully pull it, you're going to finish the game... well, same is with most of Planeswalkers. The fact that it exile pernaments and not just creatures is so nasty... you can get rid of everything on the board that you don't like. Well... if your opponent doesn't manage to get rid of him, he fully deserves Venser's exiling wrath!
I intend to make a white/blue restricting deck and I think he would definitely shine in it!

Indeed, Putrefax would return to the battlefield AFTER the beginning of the End Step, therefore, it would be too late for it to trigger during your turn. It would trigger during your opponent's End Step, however.
You can't bounce another planeswalker to reuse its ability in the same turn, because the planeswalker returns to the battlefield at the beginning of the end step, and you can't play sorceries then, only instants. Remember, a planeswalker's abilities can only be used when you could cast a sorcery.
Venser + Thrummingbird is a cute combo. The unblockable bird hits, you get the loyalty counter back. Pepper with some real threats and the game could be over fast.
You have no reason not to have a creature on the battlefield now with the new Living Weapon equipments.

Way cooler than Jace because Venser actually requires you to play smart: how powerful he is is determined by how you built your deck and how you play it. You could play lots of defensive creatures with ETB effects and focus on his +2: card advantage (plus threat of ultimate), or you could mix in some aggro elements so his -1 is also relevant.
Seriously, we need more cards like this, and less cards that are so powerful that they can do essentially anything anytime alone.

Venser is excellent with Glimmerpoint Stag. When the stag comes back into play at the end of your turn after being bounced with Venser, you can exile an opponent's permanent (such as, say, their planeswalker) for the entirety of their next turn, as it will not be returning to play until the end of their turn.

This is a reverence to the mending of the multiverse, which came after the phyrexian assault of dominara I believe. Yes his powers are similar to the current planeswalkers when it comes to planeswalking, but he is flavor wise the first of this breed of planeswalker.

@ channelblaze:
113.2. An effect that creates an emblem is written “ gets an emblem with .” This means that puts an emblem with into the command zone. The emblem is both owned and controlled by that player.
113.3. An emblem has no characteristics other than the abilities defined by the effect that created it. In particular, an emblem has no name, no types, no mana cost, no color, and no expansion symbol.
Essentially, because emblems are colorless, your assumption is correct. You could use Venser's emblem to exile permanents that have protection from white or from blue. Think of it as YOU getting the ability. YOU are a colorless noncard nontoken nonspell source. I expect things to get pretty absurd when we see design space that interacts with the command zone from the battlefield (i.e. "protection from emblems").
With the amount of creatures in this game with ETB triggers, I think Venser is by far the most versatile planeswalker in the game. He basically can do anything those creatures can. Blink, blink, blink. Oh, sorry I just drew cards. Oh sorry I just returned some spell to my hand. Oh sorry, I just killed all of your land with Avalanche Riders. Such a good card.
He begs for you to build around him. The resulting decks are fun, have tons of variety, and are very very powerful.

I played Venser in my myr deck and managed to get his emblem down. Next that turn i cast five myr, exiling all of my opponent's big cards, then overran him with the -1 ability next turn.
Yep, Venser's essentially a god among men. The fact that he looks like David Tennant doesn't hurt

He is also a source of "extra" mana in the sense that he can flicker a land after you've tapped out and it will reenter the battlefield untapped, allowing you to play instants on your opponents turn. It has been really helpful to me when I tap out for a Precursor golem and need one mana open to play apostle's blessing.

Two questions about his emblem: 1) Do emblems stack (i.e. can I have two of the same one, so I can exile two permanents a pop?) and 2) Does the emblem count as an "ability" and be retargeted to a Spellskite?

There are a few uses for Venser that I don't think I've seen here. Of course there's the obvious CIP triggers, cleansing poison counters, reclaiming the Jace, the Mind Sculptor your opponent just stole with Volition Reins, etc. The first is resetting cumulative upkeep. Illusionary Terrain goes from "decent stall card" to "instant scoop" against a lot of decks if you get a Venser down with it. The second is disabling any double-edged sword cards you have. Suddenly, Standstill is even crazier than before, and the aforementioned Illusionary Terrain will work even if your opponent's playing blue. And then just the miscellaneous shenanigans you can pull with things like Ancestral Knowledge.
You could also pull off a lot of these combos with Vedalken Mastermind, but Venser has a few advantages: he's much harder to kill/bounce, you don't have to recast after the flicker, you don't have to pay U to use it, and, of course, you're working your way up to his ultimate (or waiting for an alpha strike with his -1).
@Splizer "Two questions about his emblem: 1) Do emblems stack (i.e. can I have two of the same one, so I can exile two permanents a pop?) and 2) Does the emblem count as an "ability" and be retargeted to a Spellskite?"
The answer to your first question is easy since it's explicitly stated in the errata text: "If you control more than one such emblem, each one's ability will trigger separately whenever you cast a spell."
In general, multiples of any permanent (emblems included) that has a triggered effect will produce multiple effects, since each one will go off when the trigger event happens. As an aside, the controller of the card producing the triggered effects will dictate what order they go on the stack; not that useful here, but good to know, and very relevant with cards like Hero of Bladehold.
The second question's a little harder to answer, but again it's in the errata text: "Venser's last ability creates an emblem with a triggered ability. The emblem is the source of the triggered ability. Because emblems are colorless, you can target permanents with protection from white or from blue, for example, with the triggered ability."
Since Spellskite can retarget spells or abilities, it can retarget the emblem's triggered ability. The ability's source doesn't matter in this case, since Spellskite is targeting the ability, not the ability's source (which, as an emblem, can't be targeted by anything - yet).

Can you blink stuff into the game that were not there when the game began with his +2 ability? For example, after you put Venser on the battlefield, you pull your copy of Phage, the Untouchable from your pocket and exile her, since she is a -permanent- that you -own-. Next turn, put her on the battlefield, have Venser make your creatures unblockable, and proceed to win the game. Is this possible?
benevolinsolence
★★☆☆☆ (2.5/5.0)(4 votes)
@MechaKraken No, you can't for a few reasons. "Own" in game rules basically means "is part of your deck" so your personal collection doesn't count. Also, outside of the battlefield phage would be a permanent card not a permanent. (cards are only permanents on the battlefield) Lastly, not casting phage from your hand would make you lose immediately.

Venser, is my favorite mutli-colored Plainswalker because of 5 reasons...
1. UW Infect decks have an end game using his middle ability when you have 10 power amongst your creatures. 2. Ally decks have a way to reuse there effects. 3. UW Proliferate Decks have an a insane way to exile cards. 4. The insane morph combos he creates is evil. 5. Finally resets cumulative upkeep for your cards.

Just realized it's permanents you OWN, not control. Sweet answer to possession.
Works great to reset other Planeswalkers too, after they burn a -1 ability or an ultimate. I'm actually trying to squeeze 2x Ajani Goldmane next to my Venser singleton in a CIP deck. Have had him draw me several cards through Coiling Oracle and ramp a ton of mana!

Quick question: When you exile a Jwari Shapeshifter will it retain it's previously copied characteristics when it returns to the battlefield, or does it behave as if it were just summoned and allow you to copy a new target Ally?
I'm assuming the later since counters and such get wiped as if the card is just coming into play, but I want to make sure.

The text on Venser says "Exile Target Permanent." A card is not a permanent until it is on the battlefield. Even if you own it. Even so, if Phage comes into play anyway other than you casting her, you lose, so you couldn't flicker her.

Personally, what I really like about Venser is that: in the comments section, you see all the fun combos that people can think of to abuse him while with the most powerful cards, progenitus, emrakul, bolas, planeswalker for exmple all you really get is people saying "X, Y and Z beats, kills, makes you sad" Venser isn't as powerful on hist own, its all about the combo.

Also, having your battlefield littered with things like Suture Priests and Soul's Attendants adds additional bonuses. The possibilities are endless for this guy.

Venser is my favorite Planeswalker, and that is saying alot! His costing is fair, his ability isn't broken and in the hands of a skilled player can wreak havoc with "enters the battlefield" and "dies" triggers. Whats not to like about him? Currently the only Blue/White Planeswalker. He would totally be broken if his first ability allowed him to exile any permanent, but Wizards was smart enough to make it a one-sided ability. I have won many games by using his 2nd ability and never having to go Ultimate at all. I just wish Wizards would print these Planeswalker Emblems they are referring to. I understand that these emblems aren't permanents but it would still be awesome to have an emblem after the Planeswalker (Koth, Elspeth,Venser) are gone to remember that the ability still exists.

Having both Vensers on the battlefield at once is an insult to the flavor of the game, much like having both Kamahls on the field shouldn't be possible either. I think I remember someone justifying this problem (regarding Kamahl) by saying that you're summoning him from two different periods of his life. That's all nice and dandy, but that's directly contradictory to the fact that you can't have both Jace, The Mind Sculptor and Jace Beleren on the battlefield at the same time.

I've got to say that this is my favorite planeswalker in existence. So, I run a White-Blue Knight deck, and my friend generally responds with his pet Blue-White-Red control deck, which stars a playset of "Sphinx of Jwar Isle", with not many other permanents. When I finally acquired Venser, and put him in, my friend just chuckled, and mentioned what a pity it was that Venser wouldn't do much against a deck where his only important nonland permanents were shrouded. As a result, I didn't encounter any resistance in getting to 10 counters and setting off the killer -9, at a time when he had a single Sphinx out, and no other permanents. On my next turn, I cast a pair of "Leonin Skyhunter", again causing my friend to laugh. "Okay,", I said smugly, "I'll exile two Islands." At the end of that game, my friend vowed never to be Venser'd again.

Venser's first ability is the key here. Throw in a Mistmeadow Witch and a Deadeye Navigator, and if you save up enough mana in your pool, you should be able to keep recasting creatures several times per turn. If you play a WUB deck around Venser, you're going to want a Massacre Wurm, just like Ferlord said. Keep resetting the wurm with Deadeye Nav and you should be set for life.
Even using cheapo commons over and over can be great, such as Cathedral Sanctifier and Farbog Boneflinger. I'm currently using the duel deck that Venser came in, but it would be so easy to make a deck for him that's standard. With the ability to keep resetting soulbond, it's a damn shame he is leaving in october!
So many possibilities I cannot count. Venser is in the running for best planeswalker.
There are SO many white doublestrike creatures. That -1 is gonna be amazing. And what with all these new detain creatures he's looking to be so very relevant.
I use him in my bant colored splicer deck, which makes him say +2 you gain a 3/3 golem token with potentially any of the following flying/trample/first strike/regeneration/ +1/+1 -1 blightsteel colossus becomes unblockable until end of turn -8 you get an emblem which lets exile a permanent whenever you cast a spell

This card is really amazing.
It has to be built around somewhat to really work well, unlike some other PWs such as Garruk Wildspeaker that works well in most green decks with creatures.
What I like so much about Venser is that he is such a massive threat the opponent about has to deal with it soon or it's curtains. Some other PWs like Vraska opponent can probably afford to let the final go off if they have a way to deal with the tokens, but not so in the case of this guy. The emblem will simply end chances of winning vs the vast majority of decks you see, and its an un-counterable exile outside of cards like Stifle which is just so damn good.

I can use incandescent soulstoke to cheat my mulldrifter in to play and make it unblockable, hitting my opponent for 3+ and drawing 2 cards?
I can exile a permanent AND draw 2 cards for casting my mulldrifter?
My mulldrifter deck is gonna love this guy.

VENSER, *** YEAH
I don't think his ultimate can be used to take out Progenitus.
Everything is EVERYTHING. Emblems are considered colorless "markers" that reside in the command zone, which is still something :)...and makes them part of "Everything".
Now I have a question: could you use Venser's ability to exile a ball lightning or putrefax to keep it from dieing at end of turn? or do the creatures' end step triggers kill them upon returning?
Sphinx of lost truths also just got a lot better. This guy seems to have a whole archetype just built for him already.
Perfect for getting rid of grafted exoskeleton and a creature attached to it
Then eventually while you are controlling everything: TWO Emblems out!
regarding to your ability, i'm really interested to hire you in my blue-with company. I offer you a position as an exiler. We have a plenty of facilities that can support your work, as well as Inexorable Tide, Contagion Engine and we will also provide you with a white spell life-protected insurance. You can also hide my Sunblast Angel, but don't forget to return it at the end of turn, Ok?
I hope you are interested with my offers.
looking forward to see you in my next booster bock. thanks.

PS: do you remember where did you put all my trigons on the prerelease? i can't find it.
That would be soooo bah-roken.
This s#it is not cool! Bad Wizards! BAD!
You can however, still get it with effects like Malfegor, Consuming Vapors, or Steel Hellkite, though 10 mana is just silly, And you could get it with Wraith effects.
Tl;Dr, No, Emblem won't get Progenitus.
He's only good for horde and poison decks. Scratch that, White and blue don't have poison. So yeah, don't expect to see the light of day much. Easily killed with a lightning bolt, Only good with red, green, and black style decks, and has to wait 4 turns to use the only thing we care about-the path to exile. Worst planeswalker I have seen yet.
1.5/5 Ability 2 is kinda useful. Nice pic.
Hey, it's open design space, it could happen!
More specifically, when applied to Venser it upgrades his first ability for the use of safety blinking.
Edit: For curiosity's sake, what happens when you bounce a card that has a "beginning of the end step" clause...like Putrefax? Does the "end step" trigger go off? Or can I constantly bounce my Putrefaxs and Ball Lightnings for reuse?
Regarding Ball Lightning and Putrefax, they would stay in play if exiled by Venser. Since they aren't on the battlefield at the beginning of the end step, their abilities will not trigger. The delayed trigger for them to return to the battlefield will go on the stack, but when they actually return to the field it is no longer the beginning of the end step. It's too late for their sacrifice abilities to trigger.
Knight-Captain of Eos. Prevent all combat damage on every one of your opponent's turns for
And to those saying he's in the wrong colors, guess again.
Solid card.
It misses it's "at the beginning of the end step" trigger and will stay on the board. Then when your opponent ends their turn it will trigger and go to the Graveyard.
T2: Plains, Everflowing Chalice (1)
T3: Plains, Glimmerpoint Stag (exile halimar depths)
T4: Venser, the Sojourner, "blink" Glimmerpoint Stag (exile opponent's creature for opponent's entire turn)
T5: Glimmerpoint Stag (exile Glimmerpoint Stag), Venser-exile new Glimmerpoint Stag; both return to play at end of turn, and nerf 2 opposing creatures until end of their turn.
Rinse, repeat, win.
T5: venser
T6: grave titan, bounce --> 10 power worth of creatures.
T7: unblockable --> win, most of the time. Or, if your opponent is at ridiculous life totals or something, keep bouncing stuff like the above mentioned ones to eventually completely decimate their board and just finish them off easily. Amazing card. And such a handsome dude too :P
WHY?
Ok take this for example, Myrsmith= 1/1 myrs + Ajanie Goldmane= 3/3 or 4/4 myrs + Venser's -1 ability
I love it! throw in a tempered steel and BAM!
The other 75 pecent towards my love for Venser is his sideburns.
FIVE STARS
And that's just in standard...
Geez, just rate it 5/5 people
Really good and abusable card by its other abilities
You can't bounce another planeswalker to reuse its ability in the same turn, because the planeswalker returns to the battlefield at the beginning of the end step, and you can't play sorceries then, only instants. Remember, a planeswalker's abilities can only be used when you could cast a sorcery.
Venser + Thrummingbird is a cute combo. The unblockable bird hits, you get the loyalty counter back. Pepper with some real threats and the game could be over fast.
You have no reason not to have a creature on the battlefield now with the new Living Weapon equipments.
(also reveillark)
I realize saying "He's good in a deck with lots of EtB effects" is like saying Koth is good in a deck with Mountains or Nissa is good in an elf deck, but still. Ridiculous good in a deck even slightly tweaked to abuse him.
Blink your Archangel.
Create a 5/5.
Seriously, we need more cards like this, and less cards that are so powerful that they can do essentially anything anytime alone.
~by GeronimoMartinez
This is a reverence to the mending of the multiverse, which came after the phyrexian assault of dominara I believe. Yes his powers are similar to the current planeswalkers when it comes to planeswalking, but he is flavor wise the first of this breed of planeswalker.
113.2. An effect that creates an emblem is written “
that puts an emblem with into the command zone. The emblem is both owned and
controlled by that player.
113.3. An emblem has no characteristics other than the abilities defined by the effect that created it. In
particular, an emblem has no name, no types, no mana cost, no color, and no expansion symbol.
Depending on deck build, of course ;)
He begs for you to build around him. The resulting decks are fun, have tons of variety, and are very very powerful.
Yep, Venser's essentially a god among men. The fact that he looks like David Tennant doesn't hurt
@Splizer
"Two questions about his emblem: 1) Do emblems stack (i.e. can I have two of the same one, so I can exile two permanents a pop?) and 2) Does the emblem count as an "ability" and be retargeted to a Spellskite?"
The answer to your first question is easy since it's explicitly stated in the errata text:
"If you control more than one such emblem, each one's ability will trigger separately whenever you cast a spell."
The second question's a little harder to answer, but again it's in the errata text:
"Venser's last ability creates an emblem with a triggered ability.
"Own" in game rules basically means "is part of your deck" so your personal collection doesn't count.
Also, outside of the battlefield phage would be a permanent card not a permanent. (cards are only permanents on the battlefield)
Lastly, not casting phage from your hand would make you lose immediately.
the second and last points you made were correct, however, the first one is not. otherwise, Spawnsire of Ulamog's ability would not work
I'm assuming the later since counters and such get wiped as if the card is just coming into play, but I want to make sure.
@Mechakraken
The text on Venser says "Exile Target Permanent." A card is not a permanent until it is on the battlefield. Even if you own it. Even so, if Phage comes into play anyway other than you casting her, you lose, so you couldn't flicker her.
My favorite flicker decks are mono-white and white/green.
Aether Adept (free bounce spell)
Glimmerpoint Stag (free flicker spell)
Wing Splicer (free 3/3 Golem w/ flying)
Pierce Strider (free Lightning Bolt)
Sphinx of Uthuun (free Fact or Fiction)
Deceiver Exarch (free tap/untap spell)
Also, having your battlefield littered with things like Suture Priests and Soul's Attendants adds additional bonuses. The possibilities are endless for this guy.
Venser - "Yes Elementar?"
Reveillark " When you teleport me I go to Bahama and after comeback I can use my power again!
Or when you teleport us to bypass enemy defences.....But WHERE you teleport our foes?"
Venser - *smiles* "Valakut"
Elvis Presley...heh...nice one. Though he makes others leave the building more often than not.
That is all.
--Venser
Wizards, why u no make sense?!
+2: Gain control of target opponent's creature at the end of turn.
Not bad, huh?
Really? I thought he sent them to oblivion
+1: Return your empty cup or glass to the barista. Return it to your hand refilled at end of turn.
-1: Creatures you control aren't thirsty this turn.
-8: You get an emblem that says "Whenever you finish your drink, an opponent of your choice refills it."

Someone read your mind.
then use his -1 ability to beat down your opponent with 1/1s
One of the more simple ones, yet one of my favorites.
Aw, my batterskull died.
*Exile*
*Comes back*
It got better!
Allons-y!
Other obvious combo is of course creatures which trigger something, when they enter the battlefield (Like Æther Adept). Nice way making opponet cry if their creatures just pop back into their hand ;)
Meet Nevermaker. ;)
+2 you gain a 3/3 golem token with potentially any of the following flying/trample/first strike/regeneration/ +1/+1
-1 blightsteel colossus becomes unblockable until end of turn
-8 you get an emblem which lets exile a permanent whenever you cast a spell
Fathom Mage and other Graft/Evolvers, Vendilion Clique, Eternal Witness, Mulldrifter, Sylvan Primordial and its friends, Sun Titan and his friends, Duplicant, Reveillark, Karmic Guide, Avenger of Zendikar and other token-poopers, Acidic Slime, Spike Weaver FOG!!!, Solemn Simulacrum and other land grabbers, Gilded Drake OMG... I think I hate myself, Stonehorn Dignitary ... no wait, NOW I do, Mangara of Corondor ... make it stop, MAKE IT STOP!!!, Glen Elendra Archmage and other potent persisters (I'm looking at you Woodfall Primus), Meddling Mage, Fierce Empath and other creature-tutors, Thragtusk and other life-gainers, Craterhoof Behemoth, Archaeomancer and the other returners (hi Snapcaster Mage), Nevermaker, Prime Speaker Zegana, Stoneforge Mystic, Progenitor Mimic and other Clones (i.e. Phyrexian Metamorph)... the list goes on and on of course, but I just thought this might make for quicker reference since it doesn't stop with "enters the battlefield" in the Rules Text now does it? (fyi, one of my favorite EDH builds!) -you're welcome
He's so good, he even plays with himself! Venser, Shaper Savant ... not everyday that phrase works to your advantage. ;D
God, those sideburns.
I'm happy I'm not the only one who thinks he looks like the Doctor. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up on Mirrodin, either!
