Solid. Good mana curve. Does what it says on the tin. Alround good choice for a 'hard hitter' in control.

Why didn't they just give him hexproof? That first ability doesn't seem good enough for a titan

A titan rated below 4? What madness is this!?
Laguz
★★☆☆☆ (2.6/5.0)(10 votes)
It's rated below a 4 because it deserves to be below a 4. Titans are huge targets. The sun, grave and primeval titans are so ridiculously powerful because they provide immediate card advantage before the opponent has time to kill it, and the inferno titan is likely to kill a creature or two when it comes in. Frost titan...nothing. Tap a permanent? Whoop-dee-doo. The extra two mana it takes to cast oblivion ring, doom blade or go for the throat is completely negligible. This IS the worst titan based on the fact that it provides zero card advantage (unlike the other 4). LSV even went so far as to call this titan unplayable.

Agreed, worst titan. Interesting this is, this is the only titan that doesn't give you card advantage in titan cycle with card advantage color(aka blue). Grave titan, two 2/2 zombies; primeval titan, two lands; sun titan, a card from graveyard; inferno titan, eh, 3 damage from the beginning and possible death of a creature; but frost titan and tapping a permanent? Meh...

This being unplayable?
Just being 6/6 for 6 CMC make it quite powerfull for a blue creature. His "pay 2 more" ability may not seem all that great at first sight, but you need to think about it in a more complex way (as a blue mage already should). It can shut down your opponent combo - if he waste more mana, he can't cast it, and you know, even one mana CAN make difference. Secondly, it make your soft counters like Mana Leak or Spell Pierce much more reliable, especially if you're playing some kind of restrictive deck using cards like Propaganda or Windborn Muse. If he would have shroud, or even Hexproof, he would be insane. This is just balanced... powerfull, but balanced.
His second ability is much more dangerous... and it's a reason why he win the titan wars - he just keep the other titans tapped. What is even better, he is not restricted to creatures, he can tap everything really cheaply... don't take it lightly. He can just tap opponent's most dangerous threat. He may not provide a card advantage, but he severly slows down your opponent, which may be enough for a reasonable blue mage.
He is not the best titan, he may be the worst titan, but it doesn't mean he is unplayable. You just need to put him in a right deck. Even Primeval Titan is overpowered mostly because of a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle.

Frost titan gives you board advantage, which is just as important as card advantage.
He's great. he can lock down lands to prevent you from destroying him. He really owned me in the caw blade mirror last week. Grinders should give him some more thought and test him out.
You cant jundge a card by its individual strength, you have to understand that each Titan is made to be played in a way that suits the correspondant colour and type of play. For an example, try putting any of the other titans effects on the Frost Titan, now that you think of it as a blue card and not some rediculous pokémon card that has to be more "powerful" to be of more use. The effect on Frost Titan is perfect for any blue mage ( No other mage than a blue mage should use this card so how is it bad again? ) just think for more then a second before posting replies like "worst titan". Its Silly.

6/6 makes him tough, and the Lcok-Down is, well....
If you've played StarCraft:BroodWar, you'd know how irritaing it is when the most crucial permanent you need keeps getting 'deactivated'.
If the damn tree starts seeing play, this guy's going to be tech against it. One Frosty can keep two of them locked down at once on your turn, which keeps them from blocking and from healing your opponent.
Ratchet Bomb would work well too, but it also wouldn't be swinging for 6 every turn.

i have a question??? why the frost titan can apply his second ability with a permanent tapped....i don-t understand that, because if a permanent is tapped, you don't "tapped" again. thanks

I like this titan, he lets you lock down the threats on the board - so he's less likely to get chumped for a turn. His first ability is also nice because if they target him with a spell it first of all means that they have to pay an extra 2 to do so, but then if you counter that spell with mana leak that's another 3 on top for it to resolve. 7 mana for a doom blade, now that's some expensive removal!

Definitely worth running in standard right now. With U/W control decks on the rise, this becomes one of the key cards to beat control. A lot of people will look at this and say that it's last ability is useless. It isn't simply due to the fact that you can force the opponent to tap one of their lands, effectively setting something up on your side (assuming you have enough mana after this) or at the very least stopping them from using another counterspell. Also a 6/6 for 6 that requires 2 mana to counter it is pretty awesome for a blue player.

The first ability is what Chromium Rhuell should have had. Or maybe a Divert version of it.
I just barely got a Tamiyo, the Moon Sage at the prerelease saturday and wasted no time building a deck with her and these beasts. What can go wrong with card advantage and board advantage? Answer: Absolutely nothing.

Not a bad card. Very hard to deal with. Doesn't offer as much card advantage as the other titans. However, considering that it makes doom blade cost 3B in the same enviroment as mana leak it can be extremely relevant. Plus he can shut down the other titans. I'm disappointed he hasn't seen more play.

3.5/5 Has anyone at wizards considered replacing the first ability with Hexproof? it would save so much time and effort. Overall the ability to Freeze a permanent for 2 turns is incredible. But I would almost consider his Frost breath ability to be more relevant.
Weakest of the Titans but in my imagination he could've been so much better if:
Frost Titan UU4
Hexproof
When Frost Titan enters the battlefield or attacks tap up to 2 target permanents.
6/6
Yeah, then Frost Titan would be spectacular, very close to being unblockable.

This thing is good against every other titan. Except for enter the battlefield abilities all you have to do with this is swing and even sun titan can't stop it for two turns. sure it isn't as capable at removal or dealing damage as the others but this card is an excellent form of control that is also troublesome to remove.

In average play he might be looked at as one of the weaker titans. But the one thing he did well was helped shut the other titans down nothing like rolling over a grave titan with this.

I personally really like this Titan, his lock down effect is amazing and he makes a removal spell more expensive to play on him. If he had Hexproof then I think he'd be way too powerful.

Hexproof would be way too strong, but paying an extra is a really weak primary effect, even with the Mana Leak trick. If you wait until turn 8 to drop the Titan with counter mana up, your opponent won't have a problem paying on top of the they payed for Doom Blade. The effect should have required paying an extra and it'd be perfectly balanced.
As for it's main ability, it's true that Frost Titan trumps all others in 1v1 combat (strangely off-flavor for blue) but the fact remains that it's the only Titan that doesn't generate card advantage in any form. As it is now, it just enters the battlefield and eats a Doom Blade or Swords to Plowshares while the other Titans burn a few dudes, make a few dudes, grab some utility lands, or revive a Knight of the Reliquary before bitting the bullet. When this guy dies, he leaves you with... a permanent tapped for one turn? Hopefully you guys understand why he's considered the worst Titan now.
Luckily for blue mages, Wizards probably realized that they screwed us over with the Titan cycle and gave us Consecrated Sphinx, exactly what we wanted out of a creature. We're all about winning through card advantage, and it was bizarre that the blue titan was the only one that didn't provide that. A few years later, we got another creature in Ætherling, which covered the the aspects of a fast, inevitable late game clock better than Frost Titan ever did.
