Imprinting something on the battlefield is a pretty cool mechanic.

Meddling Mage and Oblivion Ring in one card. This will be in control decks, no doubt.

At first I thought this was amazing in EDH against generals.

And then I was sad because it isn't.

Very pricy, but that effect is pretty much win. However I would say that surgical extraction does it slightly better for none of the mana cost.

Double the cost of O-ring, exiles the card permanently, and prevents everyone from casting any more of them. Multiplayer card for the less charismatic player who can't convince their group to ban an overpowered card that everyone is using. Now YOU get to be the judge! *finger gun + explosion*

It's like the updated white version of Desert Twister. In that respect, it's definately not overcosted. Especially since they don't get the imprint back :D

A ritual just to Exclude Jace from the party? Well! Isn't that just rude!

Looking around at some of the Venser, the Sojourner decks people are cooking up, I'm legitimately scared of this card, because even a single can do evil...evil...things.

Totally Phrexian 5/5

Funny thing about this card...
When you exile a permanent, it is out PERMANENTLY!!
You get rid of Exclusion Ritual???
Sure...
you don't get your permanent back, or cast ANYMORE for that matter...
Read it carefully...
It does not say "When Exclusion Ritual leaves the battlefield, return the exiled card to the battlefield under its owner's control."
BUT casting cost of TWO Oblivion Rings???
Mayhaps.

@Jokergius: They don't get the card back if it gets disenchanted, but they can cast more. Cards tend to stop affecting the battlefield once they're in the graveyard.

Remember: if you bounce or blink this, it won't restrict the card you originally exiled with it.

But if you were intending to Venser it out and in to field-wipe very slowly and absolutely, well, have fun.

I don't like the card.

If white does something like a Meddling Mage, it should be more like a Runed Halo. It shouldn't prevent other players to cast the spell, but it should render that permanent useless against you. This is quite an important difference in multiplayer games. Imprinting a card on the battlefield doesn't feel white either.

So make a blue version for 2UUU and I wouldn't be a SAD PANDA.

Casting this targeting someone's EDH general is just mean.

@Jokergius: This is incorrect. Yes, the targeted permanent stays exiled forever (unlike Oblivion Ring). However the second ability only functions from the battlefield, otherwise it would create an emblem like Elspeth or have some rule on the card stating so like Skullbriar.

Still, it gets rid of Squadron Hawk.

In a huge multiplayer game, use it to knock out Doubling Season and watch people foam at the mouth.

Good target for Enduring Ideal. (Well, once you've got all the Paradox Hazes in play)

Using the imprint mechanic inversely as an offensive attack is a creative spin on an already creative mechanic. 5/5 for originality

... I just thought of this for EDH.... goodbye Annoying As Hell and Lynchpin Generals! =D

@HairlessThoctar: I'm glad you see that. Lavrant and Arcel seem to think that imprinting a commander/general in Commander/EDH means they can't ever replay the card. Just read the rulings on the card, or the Commander/EDH rules: imprint exiles the commander/general, and in Commander/EDH, when that happens the player gets to choose whether their commander/general is exiled or goes to the Command Zone. If they choose to put their commander/general in the command zone, it's no longer in exile, so Exclusion Ritual can't check to see what it imprinted and so its second ability doesn't work. You just paid 6 mana to increase the cost of their commander/general by {2}. Now, if that commander/general was about to kill you, it's probably still worth it. And this card still goes well with other cards players might cast a lot, like Primeval Titan. Just note that you can't cast yours, either.

Excuse me, you did say you wanted to play Commander, correct?

This is how you get Relentless Rats to relent.

But also: whose brain is that?

Two questions from anyone who wants to answer.
Q1: This card is legal in commander decks, but does it allow the owner to permanently disable opponent's commander? Ie. Imprint the commander and then they cannot EVER re-summon that card as long as this enchantment is in play?
Q2: If Q1 is true. HOW is that legal in commander?

@Tovec: To answer your question, Exclusion Ritual only blocks a spell so long as it has something imprinted on it. If someone were to exile a commander with this, it would simply go to the command zone. No exile card means nothing is imprinted, and without an imprint, Exclusion Ritual blocks nothing. Commander can come back fine from this.

Now, on the contrary, Exclusion Ritual can still be remarkably useful in Commander, as it's a multiplayer game, often a very large multiplayer game, with a (rather stupidly so) large amount of common cards. Slap down an enemy's O-ring and not only will they never get it back, but anyone else that has one can't use it either.

For people who are moaning about EDH use, how about you read the rulings for the card:
1.6.2011 If the exiled card somehow leaves exile, the last ability will no longer have any effect.
1.6.2011 In a Commander game, a player may replace Exclusion Ritual exiling his or her commander with putting that commander into the command zone. If this happens, Exclusion Ritual's last ability will have no effect.

Just clone their commander THEN use this on the clone and murder their commander via other means.

Easier ways to do that though.
