The only draw back to this one is that blue allies are so so at best, but only time will tell.

I quite like this one, actually. Between it, Umara Raptor and Halimar Excavator, there are plenty of reasons to splash blue in your Ally build.

But I think the most alluring thing to copy would probably be Kazuul Warlord. Give all your Allies +2/+2 for each trigger? Yes, please.

great splash card, helps you justify running some blue control aspects in an ally deck.

A Clone for Ally decks at half the cost is definitely worth splashing.
Although not meant for the early game, this will be an incredibly cheap drop later since you'll only have to pay 1Blue for a duplicate of any other more expensive Ally in play you previously paid for.

On top of this, Kev Walker once more did an amazing job on this card's artwork.

Yay! I can take those expensive clones out of my allies deck!

Neat card, I like it, but the flavor text offends my senses somehow. It could have definitely been worded more effectively.

dont forget it can also copy any changeling.
o yes! 8 halimar excavator!and 8 ondu clerics!or 8 hargra diabolist!
64 cards from the top, life points or the lose of them.

@Layton

That flavor text doesn't speak from the card itself and doesn't really means that it's a group of Jawari Shapeshifter too. That sentence merely came out from some other ally explorer or so.

She works great in my white and blue ally deck. Low casting cost means i can cast another 1 or 2 more ally (allies) including her at the same time.

hey im new to the game and not sure how this card would work......if i was to copy a ally that had say 3 +1/+1 counters on it would jwari shapeshifter enter the battlefield with 3 +1/+1 counters on it aswell ?

@rusty: No. It copies only what's printed on the copied card.

Does this trigger "when an ally comes into play" effects twice - once for the Jwari Shapeshifer itself, and once for the card it became a copy of?

Is her ability an activated ability becuase it says "you may"

copy an ally with "for each ally" and then pop Join the Ranks for 21x the original effect. let's say Hagra Diabolist, just for fun. play him, 1 life lost. copy him, 2 + 2 life lost. join the ranks, 4 + 4 + 4 + 4. so 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 21 life lost. hmm.

i'm wondering, though, if i Ghostway and clear my board, can she copy one of the allies that's coming back into play with her, or would she copy herself and fizzle? seems if she can copy herself as she comes into play, she could copy one of the others... the answer could make or break my current deck

@kronos: Where did you get the idea that she can copy herself as she comes into play? It doesn't say that in the rulings. What it says is that you can have her copy ANOTHER shapeshifter that's already out, or not copy anything at all, and then she'll come in as a 0/0.

To clear up some confusion for everyone, this is how it works: You choose the ally to copy while the shapeshifter is on the stack, then it comes into play with that ally's abilities and comes-into-play effects. You do not get to trigger ally effects twice.

So, no, unfortunately the Ghostway idea wouldn't work. It says "any ally on the battlefield" and none will be on the battlefield when it's entering.

OK i have a question. Say i have two Halimar Excavator on the battle field. I'm going to play a Shapshifter and copy the Excavator, my opponent plays a removal spell like oring, my Shapshifter will still come in play as a Excavator since there is an Excavator on the field, right?

Could the person quoted in the flavor text be the same person quoted in the flavor text of Splinter Twin?

Copying Kazuul Warlord for two mana? I could get into that.

@kronos539: No. Her ability would activate, but seeing as how she's still coming into play, and they're all entering play simultaneously, there are no creatures in play at present; thus, the ability would fizzle, she'd come in as a 0/0 creature, and unless you had something to instantly increase her toughness, she'd die immediately. Ghostway would be a very good idea for an Ally deck, however, since they would all power each other up simultaneously while coming back...

So for 2BlueBlueTap and two cards i can have a Clone? Nice idea, but very impractical.

I just despaired for the same thing realizing all my shapeshifters would die if I Ghostwayed them away. Fortunately there are a couple of answers:

1)Play another Ally after you play the ghostway. This doesn't work if you did not ghostway during your main phase though so it is of limited use (unless you have something like Vedalken Orrery or Leyline of Anticipation...which actually aren't a bad idea in an ally deck) .

2)The Changeling Champions: Changeling Berserker, Changeling Hero, Changeling Titan. This works even at instant speed so long as the changeling championed a non-jwari Shapeshifter ally. Unfortunately this is ineffective if you are using Ghostway to try to dodge a wrath or if your opponent just removes the formerly championed creature after Ghostway has resolved and before the end of the turn.

That's all I got really. At least the changelings also count as Allys so they'll trigger all of the pretty Ally ETB effects. Wait...hold on....I just read the comment by littlebeast on Changeling Hero. That's epic win, might be worth looking into (especially since it fills two roles, insta-win and ghostway-shapeshifter save).

@FU1345000 - You wouldn't need the second one. First of all, Oblivion Ring is an enchantment and couldn't cast in response to your creature. Second, this doesn't target so I'm not exactly sure if your choose the creature when you cast it but it has to happen before she hits the battlefield, so you would choose what she's copying before they have a chance to respond. However, removing an ally on the field before she does hit it would still cause any triggers that count the number of your allies (such as Hagra Diabolist) to be one less.

Two questions:

1) If this card is exiled by Venser or a similar effect and then returns to the battlefield will he retain the aspects of the card he originally copied, or am I correct in thinking he'll be able to copy another target Ally since it's as if he was just summoned?

2) If he comes into play simultaneously with another Ally due to a spell/ability such as Genesis Wave would he be able to copy that other Ally as they both resolve, or would he need to copy an Ally who was already on the battlefield?

@Cowology:

1) once a card has been removed from the field, whether it gos to your hand, deck, graveyard, or gets removed from play, will forget ever having been on the field. Thus when it comes back into play, it will be Jwari Shapeshifter again.

2)As stated before, it copies a creature as it is coming into play. Since Genisis Wave is bringing them all into play at the same time, you would not be able to use it to copy a second ally joining it on the merger into play. Thus you would have to have at least one Ally on the field for it to copy.

Oh yeah... This card.

It's pretty sick in an Ally deck, because it's whatever you want it to be, as long as you have the chosen creature on the board.

Sea Gate Loremaster is pretty sick and in the same color. Now you're only paying two mana for it. Kazuul Warlord is also a good card to use it with.
It really benefits from copying any ally. Need life, copy Ondu Cleric. Need mana, copy Harabaz Druid. Need mill, copy Halimar Excavator.

Great, but completely limited to ally decks. 4/5, probably would be 4.5 or even 5 if it wasn't a tribal card, but that'd be a tad too good.
