best reminder text ever: (You choose any number of permanents and/or players with counters on them, then give each another counter of a kind already there. Then do it again.)
This is ridiculously amazing, with -1/-1 counters, poison counters, level counters (yea you RoE leveler h8rs, they good now). The only issue I have with it is that it costs 6. Generally thats fine with my decks, because I love ramp like fishes like water, but for the love of all things good, keeping this standard in a blue/ black infect/ proliferate is going to be impossible without heavy reliance on silver and leaden myr for extra mana. Remember too, you will probably tap out to get this dude on the field, leaving yourself open to attack or unable to cast that tainted strike or vault skyward, twisted image, or turn aside that might or will be a game changer.

Best with rings of brighthearth. For 6 mana you get quadruple proliferate. Seriously though, not sure about this card. You get half of a one-sided infest for 6 mana, which is not that great. And for a total of 10 mana, you get a double proliferate. If you compare that to the clasp, you also get there a double proliferate for a total of 10 mana. However, you can play the clasp already on turn 2 (instead of 6) and start proliferating on turn 4 (instead of 7). So this is only then better than the clasp, if you will use it at least two times. Soo.... I think most of the time the clasp is better. Still interesting card. 2.5/5
Freaking Proliferate. Contagion Engine, and any combination of Planeswalkers, Quests, Ascensions, and critters that like +1/+1 counters. And levelers.
Ok, so I have 4 Lord of Shatterskull Pass. I have Doubling Season, and Contagion Engine, but none of the critters have counters on them yet. Watch the magic as I cast Venerated Teacher, leveling each creature twice! I then activate the engine, putting 2 more counters on each of them, and then doing it again! Bingo, I now have 4 level six Lords. They alll swing.

In extended this is amazing with Tezzeret.
I get to proliferate FOUR TIMES???????
I mean, sure, eight mana is expensive, but with Everflowing Chalice this is easy to pull off. you get four more counters on both Tezzeret and Everflowing Chalice as well as any other counters you may want to multiply.
The best part is that it works on the curve perfectly. Turn 5: Tezzeret Turn 6: Contagion Engine Turn 7: Everflowing Chalice for six mana, use the seventh mana and the three charge countered chalice to proliferate twice, activate Tezzeret's +1 ability, rinse, repeat . This card is BEAST

I find it humorous that everyone focuses on the second ability and pays no attention to the first. Contagion Clasp did a decent job by placing a -1/-1 counter on one creature. You play this, though, and on your next turn one of your opponents doesn't have anymore creatures; or if they do, they are all extremely ill.
P.S. One word: Modular

I went half on a scars booster box with a buddy from work, i pulled this card, contagion clasp, thumming bird, exoskeleton, mimic vat & prototype portal (along with just about every other good infect & prolif card asside from blight dragon & the praetor one. At any rate, it was no secret that my new deck was meant to be a broken black, blue, green & artifact poison filled, proliferate one. Long story short, it hasn't taken me longer than round 10 to seal an @$$ whoopin'! One game, i prototyped the engine 2 rounds back to back, with the clasp on the field & with that & the help of just a couple creatures & an enchantment, inflicted 17 points of poison filled overkill in one round! @ Beekhead, I agree. I can't tell you how many times people get excited when they play just the clasp, because they remember they get a -1/-1 out of it(already a potential kill-spell). This card just kinda went overkill with the idea; it's pretty much a slow Plague Wind.
ANYONE who complains about this costing too much deserves to be slapped. Then do it again.

6 mana is actually cheap for what this does.
Immediate weakening of entire opposing army, killing any x/1s and if the opponent doesn't immediately get rid of it the following turn is a nearly a 1-sided Wrath of God with side benefits. So powerful it is playable even without poison, planeswalkers, or levelers. With them it might have been playable without its first ability.
I have 2 of these in my arcbound deck. My team was losing bad to a token army and i only had an arcbound worker on the field... but my land was such that i had many cloudposts and glimmerposts, seeing the opportunity i dropped this and proliferated twice, and an entire army fell. A few turns later they died to my HUGE arcbound worker.
So moral of the story, proliferate + arcbound + 'posts = brokenness

Player 2: Mwa ha ha I use a long combo to get 2 Contagion Engines out turn 1 as well?! And now your Blighsteel Colossus is only a 9/9..!
Player 1: Pfff. I attack you, putting 9 poison counters on you.
Player 2: Hmmm, well, I tap my Contagion engines, turning your blighsteel colossus into a 5/5. On a side note, I'll use Leeches to get rid of those 9 poison counters. I'm at 11 hp, if you can't do math.
Player 1: ...Hmm.... Uhh..... I attack..! Take those 5 poison counters...!
Player 2: How sad, reduced to nothing but a mere 1/1 Blightsteel Colossus.... In three turns.... Let alone practically everything else you have on the field is dead because 11 -1/-1 counters kills... a lot of stuff when it's to every single creature you have....
This + Gilder Bairn + Paradise Mantle + Training Grounds. That's 6 colorless + 2 colorless one green/one blue + 1 colorless + one blue. So 11 mana to kill every creature owned by an unshrouded player. (Emrakul, Darksteel, Blightsteel, Big Furry Monster, Chimney Imp, Johnny, Combo Player, And more.) Oh, on a side note, Vines of Vastwood counters that combo. But not Contagion Engine. Contagion Engine is already retardedgood without the combo. Adding more to it is like saying Followed Footsteps, March of the Machines, Dovescape. You could even come up with a counter-based mana system for that, including things like Mirrodin's core, or Sand Silo's. Throw in a Propaganda and you can kill all that they have. And perhaps win with a bird token. This card is so good, it's 5^2 out of 1.

Wow, yeah, even one of these floating amidst 60 cards can turn a deck with infect as a back up plan to a deck that kills with infect on the regular. Did for me. But the real fun isn't the poison counters. It's -1/-1 counters to your oppoents creatures, and the +1/+1 counters for yours (ala steel overseers and the like).
The turn after I drop this I nearly always kill almost all of my opponent's creatures (and turn the rest into mush), and my 4/4 myrs (for example from a galvanizer and two turns with a steel overseer on the board) suddenly become 7/7 MYRS!!!, then I drop another Galvanizer and a Tempered Steel and my opponents proceed to fold. Good times.

This has so many applications even outside of infect decks. Love playing this in my Venser, the Sojourner deck. Proliferate twice, bounce it, and then proliferate twice again (since the Engine untaps) to give -3/-3 to anything without a counter and -5/-5 to any creatures that already have one. And Venser gets 6 loyalty in a single turn on top of that, allowing you to get that nice emblem on your next turn that lets you exile a permanent whenever you cast a spell. Any creatures your opponents control are surely dead or dying by that turn.
