Wow, it even steals planeswalkers.

Indeed. Holding on to one of these in anticipation of someone's planeswalker going ultumate :)

i willingly give 1 mana more for casting this spell instead of mind control

This and Leyline of Anticipation for massive headache. And horrible practicality. At least it works against creature-less decks

When I Mind Control something, I like to imagine myself standing on the creature's shoulder (like in the M11 art) giving it orders. When I play this card, I'm going to be imagining myself riding on Jace, the Mind Sculptor's back hitting him with a club repeatedly yelling "BRAINSTORM! BRAINSTORM! BRAINSTORM!"

Guess it depends on the amount of colors in your deck wether you prefer this or confiscate.

It's a cheaper, but more mana intensive Take Possession. Great card, will cause for some mayhem in multiplayer. Maybe a few fights over who took who's cards accidentally after the game ended. Hahaha

I would enjoy a 'steal' spell that steals equipments and auras as well.

That's great card in limited. Turns battlefield upside down singlehandedly. And you can steal fully charged Lux Cannon with it. which is hilarious turn of events.

And that giant-slug-ridin'-vedalken art is killer.

That is exactly what I said but I didnt feel like arguing with the other player. Thank you for officially clearing that up for me.

I love the thought of watching your opponent cast elspeth tirel and use her +2 while you have this in your hand.
edit: note that it's probably not a good Idea to take elspeth and use her ultimate, since that would destroy volition reins. Either take her and pump out soldiers if you want to protect your lead on the board, or wait until they use her ultimate, then take her and pump out soldiers.

How delightful to hit a player repeatedly with his own Jace, The Broken Sculptor. I give it a 5/5 just for that.

I can think of no situation in which I would rather have a Confiscate than this. But still, thank you Wizards for not completely obsoleting yet another older card. Now with this, Confiscate, and Take Possession, you can run three permanent-stealing auras in your EDH deck! (unless I'm forgetting others)

Can this enchant creatures that cannot be the target of spells or abilities?

I love this card. It has won me more games than I can count in draft. A favourite memory is drafting UG metalcraft, playing against infect, stealing his Tel-Jilad Fallen, and pumping it with Untamed Might with X = 7. Gotta love winning with poison in a non-poison deck.

How are you Gentlemen? All your Jace are belong to us.

@Cheza: You realize that Equipments are permanents right? Auras raise a bit more of an issue though. Of course, if you take control of a permanent that has an aura or auras attached to it, the auras remain attached, you just don't control them. :)

@Troutz: And now if I ever play one, that's all I'll be able to imagine. Poor Jace. =P

Why yes, you did pay $100 for that Jace, didn't you?

I used to really hate playing against those obnoxious Eldrazi decks... until this card came around. Now I just sit on this and Quicksilver Gargantuan and let them ramp themselves into an easy loss.

That there's a Plated Slagwurm, which this spell can't actually target. Of course, if one were to attach the Reins some other way...

@TLD: Speaking of Permanent-stealing aura, there is even Dream Leash that, while a little harder to use is also the cheapest...

While Confiscate is easier to play in a 2-3 color deck, I think that I would play this one in a mono-U control or a Ux deck rather than Confiscate. Both good cards nonetheless! As a nice note about Confiscate, is that it first tried the "You control enchanted permanent", being perfectly balanced in a block where reigned the broke-ness, and a long before they tried again this mechanism...!
I think that both are 5/5, along with Take Possession and Dream Leash.

"Glorifying the will is a mistake. It is simply one more force to be mastered." Intentional reference to Force of Will, possibly? That's what I thought of when I read the flavor text. Lol

In regards to the actual card, I use this in my Commander and 100 Card Singleton decks. It is a pretty solid bomb in those formats. The potential to take an opponent's trump card and turn the tables on them is just plain, evil fun. 5/5 from me.

Makes an awesome win condition for Mono-Blue in Standard. Miles better than Mind Control.

I'm no rules expert but
303.4a An Aura spell requires a target, which is restricted by its enchant ability.

I assume that means it targets and can't affect hexproof/shroud
