I'll take it.

So odd, yet so fitting all at once.

@Gezus82 - Not to mention that you'll get to put an additional counter on them for casting this guy. I was a huge fan of wither, and infect is just so much better. <3

with hand of the praetors this actually swings for 7 poison

@ceramonialbathory Thats how it's 7, 5 / +1/+1 / the one you put directly on

it makes it basically a kicked elemental appeal

Guys, is it worth it's mana cost? I'm not sure, but I like it nonetheless.

Green deck wins is gonna be huge in standard because of this guy.
StaberFire
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Of course it's worth its manacost, it swings for half the poison count. If it doesn't win you the game on the spot, it puts you only a couple proliferates or Ichor Rats away.

And obviously an on-curve Hand of the Praetors is just icing on this deliciously vile cake.

When your opponent can't block, this is a sturdier Ball Lightning that swings for 10

Kinda weird that it's green. Red-black would fit much better imho.

Poisonous Ball Lightning with -1/+2 for two more mana? I guess it's alright because two of these would kill someone where it would take 3 ball lightnings to do the same...
Which brings it to 10 mana across 2 turns vs 9 across 3...
I guess it comes down whether you like red or green.

You know what? Let's run both.

Still not very impressed by this guy. just something about it doesn't click with me. hmm. I guess I'll have to try it. So far Infect has not been as flavorful as wither decks where.

What's so evil about trample combined with infect is that even if your opponent can block and "soak up" most of Putrefax's power, now his creatures are weakened. This guy is brutal, and concede-worthy if your opponent also has out a Hand of the Praetors or two.

Its not too late, Wizards. You can still make that Contraption set you weren't planning on making. Here's a creature.
Steamflogger Flunkie {R}
Creature- goblin rigger 1/1. Uncommon.
{T}: Steamflogger Flunkie assembles a contraption.
{T}, Unassemble 2 contraptions: Put a 5/5 Golem artifact creature token into play.
I'll make all the cards if you want! Just please make some riggers!

If we stick with non Mirran cards to go with this guy, imagine the sigh of relief when your opponent lives after a strike from this dude. then imagine his face when you cast corpse cur, bringing back the Fax. Almost hard to imagine how much funn that would be!

Could have been an amazing card, however I think that either A. The mana cost needed to be one less collorless, or B. It needed one more power. Overall, it's usable especialy with Mimic Vat.

Obviously a cornerstone card for neo-poison decks. This guy sweeps in out of nowhere and will at least get you within proliferate range.

I do want to try him in extended with Blowfly Infestation. That's a card that liked to blow up the world and this is a card that likes it's world blown up (and it also like killing things with -1/-1 counters).

You'll think I'm a conservative Craw-Wurm loving vintage monger (which isn't the case), but the word Putrefax says it all: INFECT STINKS as a game mechanic.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. Running this card in EDH with Rafiq is more or less an auto win if you can get him on the field. Trample, Double Strike, Haste, and Infect makes him one scary SOB.

EDIT: Especially in a format where the starting life is 40 rather than 20.

The art definatly deserves the card. I can't wait for a Putrefax wallpaper to be released. In the mean time, II'll keep mixing Putrefax and Skythrix into Mimic Vats and making some deadly soup.

Infect makes this pretty good, but it can easily be blocked by the time it gets into play. Use with recursion. Black/Green Infect could work well.

This guy's art is gnarly.
Perfect addition to Green Infect.
Makes your opponent terrified to swing all in on you, even if you have crappy board position.

Not quite as good as I thought it was gonna be, I honestly think Skithiryx is still better for infect...

But despite being really unstable, he's actually very effective... I like him, even if he's not quite as good as skith.

I still like Ball Lightning better because I can cast more of them before this comes out. And, unlike Infect, I can finish the job without ineffective creatures and inefficient proliferation through the power of good old fashioned burn.

Sundial of the Infinite and there will never BE an end step.

Now that we have Parallel Lives, Mimic Vat can make two Putrefax tokens to attack for 10 trampling poison for three mana! Doesn't seem bad at all.

@Arachnos it will still be sacrificed during the next end step. You just wont have an end step for your turn with sundial. That generally would be your opponent's next turn

I really like him in a reanimator deck, actually. Use Buried Alive to get him, Death's Shadow and The Mimeoplasm. Then Exhume The Mimeoplasm and choose to copy Putrefax with +1/+1 counters from Death's Shadow. You end up with an 18/16 creature with trample, infect, and haste. Just need to watch out for instant removal, which is why I try and save him for when an opponent is tapped out for a turn or isn't running a control deck. The fact that you only get one swing is a downer and could mess you up if not played carefully, but with trample, haste and infect, one swing should be all you need if you use it at the right time.

The reason I started playing infect.

The problem is that infect is so powerful I almost never got to play him :(.

For those trying to replay him (you don't usually need to..) due {U} {G} infect and just bounce him. There are various ways to do this for 1 mana. Also consider Birthing Pod into Phyrexian Swarmlord

I have this in my Xenagos, God of Revels EDH deck alongside Green Sun's Zenith and Natural Order. You'd be surprised how many games I have won just by putting this guy out, pumping him up with my god, and swinging with uncontested damage.

I believe the word "Nasty" was used a few times.
