I'm interested to use this guy in Commander, it seems like he'll get alot more use. Even though you have to discard your entire hand.

Malfegor for Rakdos guildleader.

Except for Basking Rootwalla, Madness doesn't really help you here.
Or would you like to wait until turn 9 so you can cast Malfegor and Reckless Wurm?
This definitely isn't a card you'd want to put in a Madness deck.

I'm loving this guy as my commander. The way he sits in the command zone waiting to demolish any opposing creatures is very intimidating and flavoursome. If I have a slow start he is great at pulling things back.
If only there was a way to solve the loss of all my hand... a way that still followed my dragon theme.... If only red had some card-draw creatures, something like a wizard that's also a dragon. They could call it Dragon Mage or something...

@ pedrodyl - Assuming Baneslayer was played first, it probably dies. Happy times!

For any of you running Kaervek the Merciless as your commander, this is the perfect play for the turn before you bring him out. I don't know how many of you are running Kaervek edh but I like to think someone found this helpful.

Reckless Wurm isn't the only madness card: Big Game Hunter and Dark Withering are cheap enough and can help kill what they didn't sac to Malfegor, Psychotic Haze, Violent Eruption, and Fiery Temper fill similar roles. Call to the Netherworld and Grave Scrabbler both get back killed or discarded creatures. Brain Gorgers and Gorgon Recluse both become undercosted creatures. That isn't all the applicable madness cards, but basically your options with madness are a hell of a lot more diverse than just Reckless Wurm.

And that doesn't even touch upon flashback! Past In Flames being my personal favorite to use with Malfegor.

New art might have been nice.

A little costly. It needs the equivalent of the product of 3 Rakdos Signets to play, which is pretty specific. I think I'd prefer haste, firebreathing, or maybe even trample to the triggered ability though. Only good as a combo for a defense mechanism or making your creatures unblockable. Still, for flavor, 3.5/5.

Baneslayer Angel: *whistles innocently*
Malfegor: Oh hi! You have to be sacrificed now, FYI.

This guy and Harvester of Souls are BFFs in multiplayer games. Now his ability is some insane lovechild of Plague Wind and a supercasted Stroke of Genius.
Maybe you think you're drawing too much - put a nice Words of Waste in there and turn one man's treasure into every other man's trash.
Not enough mana to capitalize on the insane card advantage? With the amount of bodies hitting the floor, you might find something of use in your local Black Market. That is one card that loved to see mana burn gone.
Reuse his ability? Yes indeedy! Sac him to something (with Grave Pact on the field, naturally) and then bring him back with Hell's Caretaker. Why have your opponents sac 7 creatures when it could be 9?
Of course, they'll eventually run out of creatures for you to force them to sac and cards to discard. Dang, if only you had some fatty dragon or demon (or both, psh yeah right) to take advantage of an empty board and empty opponents' hands.

Sigarda is obviously a problem with this but at least Mal beats her one on one! On the other hand, his buddy does like seeing bodies hit the floor so why not run some mass removal - Mutilate or Black Sun's Zenith might win out over the standard Damnation in case they try to be cheeky and give her indestructibility.

@Mode: actually, as far as madness goes there's Call to the Netherworld, which is a real gift from the gods since it means you're not topdecking next turn. Or Big Game Hunter if there would be something alive after Malfegor finishes.
@Malakym: you might want to add a Mikaeus, the Unhallowed to that. I know I did, and the results were amazing.

So, I'm running him as my general. Wiping out people's boards is very fun (for me). Having to stay alive without a hand, not so much, but it's not impossible - just abuse the hell out of your graveyard.

@ Axell - First time I saw this guy I thought he was from Ravinica. I knew about the hellbent mechanic, but didn't play then so didn't know who the actual guild leaders or legends were. (And didn't play during shards either.) When I found out he wasn't from Ravinica, I was very surprised.

Drop him after It That Betrays. They have one turn to respond only can counter Malfegor once Eldrazi is out. Gotta have some form of protection from board wipe and such, so I usually try to put a Darksteel Plate on top of a greaves to make sure it's safe. Alternatively or additionally (something I haven't done but hope to), get Massacre Wurm and Bloodchief Ascension out and active and every creature earns you 2 life back and hits them for 4 as they die.

I find he works fairly well with Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Reforge the Soulas both get card draw and making sure I'm not just dropping my hand and getting milled. He's definitely a general to sit on and just intimidate the opponent with. Charmbreaker Devils also helps soften the blow of dropping your hand since some of your spells won't stay gone.

Anthem of Rakdos with him is AMAZING since he almost definitely wipes a great deal of their board and if you can give him haste then he swoops in for a banging 16 damage turn whenever and game wins the following turn if he goes unanswered well.

He definitely has to be played correctly though, as losing your hand too early can be devastating. Play him for his ability not for his body unless you have no other choice.

I'm surprised that Darth Parallax hasn't nerdgasmed about his synergy with Kaalia of the Vast. In the same vein, though, Malfegor is really fun in EDH, and makes for a powerful and interesting general. Even more hilarious with Rage Thrower and Furnace of Rath. I have wiped out a five person game with that combo

I feel a lot of player are forgetting about reanimator decks. You usually want to get rid of anything you have in your hand and this card is one of the best packages for that.
You get a 6/6 flying, you get to put your creatures in the grave and your opponent just sacked their own defenses. And NOT just one player but ALL OPPONENTS.

These card seems to be fairly underrated, i give it a 4-4.5.

Freaking incredible in Scion EDH. Yes, discarding your whole hand sucks, but replacing those cards with black is absolutely no challenge. Besides, as has been pointed out, Malfegor makes EACH opponent sacrifice that many creatures.

I can't remember the number of games I've won using this guy, followed by Bladewing (thus, bringing hm back, causing further sacrifice). Seriously, total domination with this card. Easily a 5/5, in commander at least.

I think new art would be great, but he's not *that* bad :(

Oh, and stuff about boardwiping put on a 6/6 Flyer for 6

Chaos EDH is always a lingering thought at the back of every EDH players mind. They either want to make it, or they want to play against it.

For those who don't know what Chaos EDH is, it's essentially an EDH deck with lots of spells without targets. It's really a sub-genre of EDH decks, since you can honestly do it in nearly any colour combination (Other genres include Voltron, Reanimation, Stall, Tokens, Artifacts, etc.).

No matter what kind of Chaos deck you're making, you need Red. Red has far too many non-targeting spells too big for Standard, but large enough for EDH. Wild Evocation, Decree of Annihilation, Thieve's Auction... the list goes on.

You can have Beneficial Chaos, Neutral Chaos, or Malicious Chaos.

In Beneficial Chaos, you have cards that help everyone (Howling Mine, Horn of Greed, Eladamri's VIneyard, etc.) It's regularly called 'Group Hug", because you're not hurting anyone, but you're also not trying to win. A common general for this is Phelddagrif.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, you have Malicious Chaos. Unlike Group Hug, most of your spells are meant to cause as much pain and suffering for everyone, including yourself. Cards like Sulfuric Vortex, Sire of Insanity, Orb of Dreams, and Death Pits of Rath are all commonly found in these decks. This is where Malfegor comes in, because he's one of the best Malicious Chaos generals. His effect doesn't target anyone, and he is in the best colours for overall destruction.

Lastly, Neutral Chaos is neither here or there. It's usually more selfishly beneficial for you, but not evil either. It's the most commonly used form of Chaos, since it gives you a better chance to win. You're more of a spectator than a combatant, since you're going to be able to control how everyone does things. Thanks to the Pre-Con decks, this is commonly known as "Political Puppets". Zedruu is probably the most widely known Neutral Chaos general, since she is Red, she came in the Pre-Con, and she doesn't provide too much hate. You could also be playing all kinds of terrible artifacts and creatures, only to give them to your opponents (like Feroz's Ban, Steel Golem, Alabaster Leech (and it's brethren)).

Thanks for reading. I appreciate your non-"TL;DR" attitude.

My turn: Swamp, Reanimate.

This card makes me wonder, now that all the colors have their iconic creatures, will we ever see any other crossovers like this?

A hyrda dragon seems possible (Ghidorah!)...a demon sphinx would be interesting (I picture a malevolent Cheshire Cat for some reason)... I think any other combinations would just be too silly though.

Demon Dragon.

What a great card. You lose your hand for an amazing effect, but the effect is linked to the discard, encouraging you not to play him with an empty hand! I plan on playing him in EDH with a lot of draw and a lot of destruction.

Works wonders for hellbent too, especially with Sire of Insanity.

This guy is an EDH Nekusar bomb, at the very least forcing all players to sacrifice 1 creature. That's not that bad, but generally speaking you're going to net 3 or more creatures from each opponent. That's Cyclonic Rift level of awesome, barring the fact that that Cyclonic Rift does't leave behind a 6/6 flyer in two supported tribes. Forget the hand dumping, this card will set you very far ahead, and any respectable EDH deck will have at least a little bit of graveyard retrieval.
