The new classic returns. Deathtouch is just gravy on the opportunity to destroy an artifact/enchantment/land.

Utility green gets a standard legal version of this again! With so many options, there's almost never a bad time to drop this... and with all of the people running Vault (and Cathedral of War, soon), this will become that much more useful.

Absolutely! This card has become a real workhorse without being as loudly debated as oblivion ring or as controversial as mana leak.

Always at least a 2 for 1 if you're doing it right. This card will be an EDH staple for years and years to come. I hope it never leaves the Core Set.

i'm always happy to see this highly versatile card reprinted.

It's best if you can clone it, flicker it in and out or keep reanimating it.

MAYBE next year a new slightly tweaked version of it would be cool. You know, to keep it from getting stale. Not to allow me a second copy of it in EDH or anything, of course. Because, you know, a lethal blocker and a Creeping Mold in one convenient and easily abusable package isn't that good in EDH. Yeah.

@timmyforever Why not? you think it would just be fun to troll the entire set?

Combos with entering the battlefield, and with opponents' lands.

I give this card a solid 4/4. Destroying any land, artifact, or enchantment is nice, but it also has death touch. In my RGW deck, this guy is awesome. Use him mixed with Ajani Vengeant and you can easily control multicolored decks because you can focus on keeping their special lands destroyed or tapped.

The defensive AND destructive abilities of this card has been a great contribution for green ever since it started out back in M2010.
I don't use it that much, but you know what, I smile when a friend uses it against me. As a player who loves beatdown decks, this should make me rage, but it's a well balanced card so I actually like it.

When I think New Core Set staples, I think

Doom Blade- a Trope Namer and almost classic, even if it's not in M13. Give it a few years, it'll be classic :)

Oblivion Ring- significant because it reflects how the introduction of Planeswalkers has changed some templating patterns.

I'm honestly trying to think of an example for Blue and Red, but it seems those colors just change a lot.

and this. I haven't really given Acidic Slime much thought before now, but it's clear that it's excellent versatility pays dividends in both Limited and Commander, and these formats have been given increasing attention by Wizards. Whatever it's other merits, I'm sure it's the Casual, Limited and Commander applications that are pushing it beyond simply 'well liked and useable' (lots of other good M1X designs meet that criteria) to 'next generation Evergreen Card' (not a lot of cards look like the next Serra Angel or Grizzly Bears though)

Essence Scatter I guess is the Blue one, now I think of it. Red doesn't have one, because Shock, Lightning Bolt, Incinerate, and Searing Spear are all competing for the 'Best Burn to put in a Core Set' spot. Personally I think it ought to be Incinerate.

So handy, I like it best in LD type decks. In EDH lands like Maze of ith are fair game as well, even if that is not your plan.

This card fits very nicely in my ooze deck.

Ooze is a pretty brutal tribal nowadays. I'm betting someone could make a pretty decent G/B ooze deck with things like this and Rise from the Grave.

Zombie Ooze. Shit just got real.

Use this with Cloudshift for double the destruction!

Creeping Mold + a 2/2 deathtoucher for 1 = This. Beautiful. Plus, since it's a creature you can do shenanigans such as Roaring Primadox to really make your opponent vulnerable.

3/5. 2/2 deathtouch for 5 and it takes out an artifact, enchantment, or a land. A little expensive mana wise but its worth it. Solid draft pick and some constructed applications.

Can be called for with Mwonvuli Beast Tracker, which makes two of him and two of the tracker a perfect substitute for Naturalize.

Play Simic Charm when your opponent casts this and force them to destroy one of their own lands.

Could this card's ability also destroy artifact creatures?
adrian.malacoda
★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
@GabrielChan: yes, since an artifact creature is an "artifact, enchantment, or land." It doesn't say noncreature as some cards do (e.g. Terastodon)

Artifact/enchantment/land removal + Deathtouch + 2/2 body for 3GreenGreen? Not bad.

This guy is one of my favorites to run with the simic combine. A kicked rite of replication targeting your opponents lands is too much fun! Of all the ooze creatures this one is the one i will choose.

I was playing at a tournment at my local store where they gave out their old event decks. One guy playing my friend had the Simic deck. Somehow, he managed to get 3 verdant havens onto one land, and he had Deadeye Navigator and this on the battlefield. He was able to blow up 2 lands a turn using just his forest with the verdant havens, and this with the navigator! It was really funny :)

Shame he's not being reprinted for the 2014 Core set. Maybe next year :(

No tricks needed, this is a solid 2-for-1 most of the time. It can hold of huge beaters if they lack trample and it can attack as if it had evasion much of the time as people know 2 life is often worth less than their card.

This is actually my favorite Batterskull killer, odd as that may sound; as he drops the turn after (if you killed stoneforge) so they don't have the mana to save it. On top of that, you gained board advantage as if this was a Shriekmaw against a regular creature.

The best thing? It virtually *always* kills something valuable, and usually two things. It's debatable between this and Mold Shambler as the shambler can hit 'Walkers, but you're green; you should be able to KO walkers in about 1 swing without too much issue.

With the new Strionic Resonator, I'd perhaps say this is on par with Terastodon, another great green EDH destroyer. 1 cheaper, no elephants given, deathtouch, and of course, it's an ooze! Of course, you're giving up 7/7 and one permanent destruction, but hey, who needs that when you've got living acid?

So much utility for an uncommon, 4/5 from me

Why is this rated under 4? It's a Creeping Mold on a stick that goes only G more and has Deathtouch! What else do you want it to do, your laundry?
