3/3 for 3 with First Strike and Deathtouch is ridiculous. Add in the last ability and you have a 5/5 creature here.

absurdly good card for the cost, but will have a hard time finding a niche, especially in limited. No infect, will be tough to place with other B/G MBS cards

Compare to Voracious Cobra, Nirkana Cutthroat and Pestilent Kathari. The power creep is strong in this one.

When I read this card, I thought that the second part of it would be its massive drawback. Come on wizards, you could have made this thing a 2/1 if you were giving it all these abilities.

I believe the original glissa already had first strike, so giving her zombie version deathtouch is great!

I wish she was a 3/2 and cost 4 mana. just so she would be more like the lod glissa. wouldn't have changes all that much 2BG and BGG seem like theyr pretty similar in the end. especially cuz she's a build around card not an agro card.

I honestly don't understand why someone might rate this lower than a 5.
Specific mana cost maybe, and that's a BIG maybe.
3 CMC = awesome, the 3 drop NEEDS to be a big, bad, and important, such as Vampire Nighthawk.
3/3 = very nice body. Normally you'd have a power or toughness less.
Deathtouch = always good
First Strike = with 3 power? Amazing. With deathtouch? Just yes.
Major ability = icing. Pure, delicious, colorful icing. This sort of recursion is beyond me. With so many kill spells and the like running about, including Ratchet Bomb, you can use all the tap-sacs over and over, and that sounds like silly fun with Mindslaver.
She is going to be a powerhouse, enough said.
EDH (Commander, whatever) general? Dear god.
So, seriously, WHERE is the drawback? WHERE is the -* or -*/2? I can't see it anywhere.
No infect? Who said B/G needed to be infect?
Rate this card as it deserves.

Totally taking this over Hero fo the Bladehood tommorow! EDH!

I did. Absolutely awesome body and ability. Its rare that Wizards prints a 3/3 for three mana. When you add first strike and deathtouch and her ability for artifact recursion, there is no chance that any phyrexian player is going to miss this

this girl is tha bomb !!! was lucky enough to get four at this past pre-release !! so looking forward to running this with molten-tails and wurmcoils !!! also, agree with this in being a forced to be reckoned with in EDH. 5/5 i think is an appropriate rating for this card. a friend of mine prefers the white hero as to glissa. hero is no doubt a great card, but 1 on 1 glissa kills hero and a simple "marsh casualties" rids you of the pesky 1/1 tokens. plus, glissa obviously can fetch you some much needed artifacts.

It's a semi-impractical color cost and dies to bolt, or most other removal. It is Legendary. It has no ETB ability. It has no haste. It has no evasion. It is not a very fast clock.

No, this card is not a 5/5. It's great. But not 5/5.

Tough to find a place in limited? OMG no silly people no! I opened her in my Phyrexian packs in limited and road her to victory! It was disgustingly fun throwing any enchantment or equipment on her, and in MB it was all too easy. The only thing that gave me problems was the Sword of Feast and Famine, and that's just obvious why that would make her seem less amazing. Throw an oh so cheap Phyresis http://tinyurl.com/4kx22yb, and laugh with your new 3/3 first strick, death touch, infect creature.

Copper horn scout on top of that! OMG 3/3 first stick, death touch, infect with practical vigilance!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!! So you are attacking me with your strongest Battle cry creature in hopes of killing Glissa? Ok I'll block, too bad all of these Withstand Deaths poor out of the packs like goldfish at a carnival. You may proceed to dance on table, oh yes, dance! Too bad you thought I was out of these nice little Withstand deaths when you tried to kill her with that slagstorm, too bad you only succeeded in killing your chump blockers! WOOT!!! Three Glissas in the pocket, along with three Massacre worms (1 foiled!) My God I love pre-releases! 5/5 baby you keep on putting those artifacts in my hand so I can sacrifice them over and over again. Her only downfall I see is that she's a legendary creature and as such you can't swarm people with her, but EDH screams for her!

i just particpated in a pre-release for Mirrodin Besieged siding with Phyrexia. 6 Pack 8 round Swiss draft and got lucky and pulled Glissa, the Traitor and a Wurmcoil Engine. Threw these two into a decent black/green infect deck and they were my defense. Did decent with tournament (5/3).

But the combo with Glissa and the Wurmcoil Engine is sick if you continuously attack with the Engine and can manage to kill a creature in the process, you'll load yourself up with 3/3 lifelink & 3/3 deathtouch creatures in no time.

@Darkness1d

you're completely missing the point. executioner's capsule isn't SUPPOSED to kill her.
you're supposed to use the capsule to kill an enemy creatures, and when it dies, you return capsule back to play.

essentially a doomblade for 3CMC with buyback for free.

insane card, instant edh leader,

limitless combo potential, i dont really care that she has no evasion, she is printed in the same set as asceticism... and she is black.

she clearly deserves 5/5 if not for he 3/3 for 3 + first strike deathtouch, for the ability that goes with it!

i went phyrexian solely so i could get me hands on promo this! glissa is the knight for my chess deck, and one of my favourite legendary cards, now she is two of my favourite legendary cards!

Anyone who says this card is broken needs to spend some time playing against nothing but Valakut Ramp and B/x Control decks. "Better than banseslayer"? Is Glissa going to become the win condition in a deck that can compete with Jace, like Baneslayer did to Jund? Glissa's abilities are good, but she's nothing competitive. She's too specific in mana to be played in most decks, and none of the decks in Standard or Extended in her colors run enough artifacts to play her. She's fun in EDH (Mindslaver), but fun is different from OP.

Amazing combo of abilities in a 3/3 for 3. Worth playing in just about any G/B deck. That G/B combo and the limited number of competitive decks running that right now is the one limitation.

Combos well with Perilous Myr and/or Necropede.
Could be interesting with Ratchet Bomb. Maybe Ichor Wellspringand Throne of Geth, but no built in creature kill there.

Would really have been better as WGG and working in a Tempered Steeldeck. Her ability also seems more Mirran than Phrexian to me...heres hoping for a Glissa, the Redeemed.

While the card is excellent, i'll even say 4.5 or 5 like others, there's something REALLY important to note. Often this card will act like a 3/3 for 3, or a 1/3 deathtouch first strike for 3. Both are alright, but counting First Strike from a 3 power point of view and then looking at deathtouch REALLY just means that the enemy won't block with multiple guys.

Like.. she's super good and all, but the abilities/stats are redundant if you look at them in a bias lighting. She'd be effectively the same if she was 1/3 but did 3 to players if unblocked.

Further note that in standard she's in Infect colors, but doesn't work well with other infectors. Because of this, the legendary status, the specific mana cost, and the ability being somewhat narrow she's a pretty balanced card in all formats I can seem to consider.

Nice, a reasonable, appropriately costed mythic. Would have worked as a 3/2 though.

I think I will take this moment to complain about the Scars block.

I started getting into the game in the Shards of Alara block. The shard I decided to play was Esper, the WhiteBlueBlack shard that was very loving of colored artifacts.

By the release of the Zendikar set I felt as though I was an average/experienced player. Not tournament level player (and I'm still not today) but I figured I had a good handle on the game.

Shortly after the release of Zendikar, I found the Wizards Website. There i was introduced to all of the other expansions from Magic's past and hints of its future. I was shown some of the problems with the game that were arising, such as overpowered mythics.

Summer of 2010. I have been playing for about 2 years now, and rumors are surfacing about the war between the Mirrans and the Phyrexians. As my first real experience with the game was Esper, I was excited to go to a plane that was the inspiration for Esper and I decided I was playing Mirrodin all the way in this war.

I think I also believed some rumor about the players will actually decide the outcome of the war, and I thought it was cool that we would decide the outcome of the war.

However, when the entire Scars of Mirrodin set was spoiled, I just did not feel interested in the Mirrans. In fact, the Phyrexians looked cooler with Proliferate. Imprint was used far to little and Metalcraft just was the most boring thing I could have imagined. And looking at Phyrexia's Infectors who basically had twice the power that normal non Infect creatures did including all of their damage being permanent and whatnot. The set just never clicked for me.

Caught up in my first year of High School, I just kind of put my cards in a box and put them in my closet.

Flashforward to this summer, the Summer of 2011, I had the opportunity to look back at the entire block without any prejudgements. I was saddened by what i saw. Other than now my Stoneforge Mystic was worth $10.00.

They did not even give Mirrodin a chance. The Phyrexians took all of Mirrodin's greatest weapons. They turned the beloved Darksteel Colossus into that one-hit-kill Blightsteel Colossus, they phyrexianize Blinkmoth Nexus into Inkmoth Nexus, and they do this: Take Mirrodin's one true hero and even Phyrexianize her. What does Mirrodin get? The Swords of ___ and ___, Tempered Steel, Memnite, Kuldotha Rebirth... not as much as Phyrexia. Only a couple Rares and Mythics that casual players can't get their hands on.

I think if they simply gave Mirrodin Modular it would have felt more like Mirrodin. Metalcraft and Battle cry do not feel like Mirrodin. Modular (along with +1/+1 counters) would have been great to help contrast the sides more than a watermark. The normal counter statement is board complexity. It gets messy with the two different types of counters. I think even the least experienced player could have the common sense to use rocks for +1/+1 and sticks for -1/-1. And if you absolutely can not have both and had to sac one, which would it be. Mirrodin's +1/+1 that they are already known for and is a part of their mechanical identity? Or Phyrexia's Infect, which is something completely new for Phyrexia and is just one of the few things that make up Phyrexia's mechanical identity? They could have given Mirrodin Modular and Imprint, Phyrexia Phyrexian Mana and something else. Proliferate works nicely with both sides so I think both sides should have then gotten it.

So yeah... the last year was a major disappointment for me. But I do have high hopes for Innistrad, it seems a lot cooler anyways.

★★★★☆ (4.0/5.0) (3 votes)
Extremly powerful and vulnerable to removal.

You can fetch her with Green Sun's Zenith.
You can retrieve her with Noxious Revival.
Swiftfoot Boots and Darksteel Plate can protect her.

Since your opponent will focus fire on her, Livewire Lash is a solid choice to make your opponent pay for targeting her. You basically kill a creature of your opponent every time he targets her with a spell which happens to trigger her last ability before the spell affects her. Also, a 5/3 that your opponent will block with great difficulty kills pretty fast!

Sylvok Replica really shines along her side. A disenchant on two legs main deck (like Kor Sanctifiers) is stronger than it looks, especially if you have the means to retrieve it from your graveyard! If you destroy an artifact creature, you can immediately retrieve your Sylvok Replica. Those two together sound like a real threat to Tempered Steel decks.

Lure was mentionned. Just aouch...

Mycosynth Wellspring and Ichor Wellspring are also very interesting cards to play here. Including Phyrexia's Core and Piston Sledge will provide you a relliable sacrifice engine to cash in those cards and move them to your graveyard for Glissa. Throne of Geth could also work if you need to proliferate in your deck.

Perilous Myr and Necropede are excellent creatures with her to survive early game and you can retrieve them later. Against decks with lots of creatures with low toughness, if you have the Phyrexia's Core + Piston Sledge sacrifice engine, you can kill their creatures while retrieving those two creatures when Glissa is on the field.

I think Wurmcoil Engine is the best win condition creature to use along her side.

Piston Sledge will turn Glissa or a Wurmcoil Engine into real scary monsters.

When Inistrad will show up, Nihil Spellbomb will be very interesting to sideboard against any deck that relly on the content of their graveyard. Horizon Spellbomb also sound good to fix your mana to cast her and ramp for bigger spells while maintaining card advantage.

So yeah... The possibilities are endless and there are really nice synergies to build around.

Important to note that she is a zombie. There might be some cool interactions with her in Innistrad. Milling themes work well with her because she uses the graveyard. Just getting back things like traveler's amulet will be good for value.

Whats that you say, Glissa? Hearless Summoning + Perilous Myr to deal with legions of creatures toughness 2 or less?

Or just pod the Myr INTO Glissa, kill a small creature and get the Myr back (since both the pod trigger and myr death trigger at the same allowing you to choose the order they resolve).

@ Eternal Phi,

I wish you were right about using Birthing Pod with Perilous Myr to fetch Glissa, but I'm afraid you're wrong about getting the Myr back. First, you announce you're using Pod's activated ability; it goes on the stack. Then, you pay the costs, saccing the myr, which would put a triggered effect on top of the stack. Fetching Glissa is the last thing that happens in that scenario, so her triggered ability wouldn't happen. It's counterintuitive, I know, but that's what it looks like to me in the comprehensive rules, sections 602/603 I think..

But what if I made her my general?
Okay, every single card in the entire deck is an artifact besides a few spells like Splinterfright and Mulch to get my stuff in the graveyard.
Stuff's dying in 3+ player EDH all the time, right? So I just get to have fun picking whatever I want out of my graveyard.
Naturally, Spellbook or Reliquary Tower so I can have all the choices in the world.

I don't see much of a point in discarding all of your artifacts. Frankly, that seems like a waste of time to me, because even if you're pulling whatever you want out of your graveyard, you still have to cast it. So why not cast it straight off? Your idea would work, but how I would implement it is by using a huge card-draw mechanic, so that you can keep your hand full of artifacts you want to cast right now, and when your hand gets too full, discard all of the ones you want to wait to cast. That's just me, though.

You reallize that Glissa isn't a real woman, right? Technically speaking, she's not even human. So, while I'm sure you have only the best intentions, there's not much point in trying to defend her when she's really only a painting with some flavor attached. Let's treat cards like cards, pictures like pictures, and leave the argument on how to treat women out of a casual card game.

10 pages of comments and no one mentioned the amazingly broken combo of Glissa, Shimmer Myr, and Black Lotus, of course for people who can't afford a (more than) thousand dollar card lotus petal is still pretty amazing

First strike deathtouch. The most sadistic combination of powers available, aside perhaps from Invisible Stalker's Hexproof Unblockable. And her super special is designed right to take advantage of that killer power. How does this abomination cost only 3 CMC?

Now don't get the wrong impression here; she's a strong card, and I really like her, but first strike on her doesn't really make sense. It's not the first time we've seen first strike and deathtouch on the same card, but it is the first time we've seen them together as static abilities, and first strike fits nowhere in her colors.

The deathtouch I can understand, but not first strike. A few cards in black and green with it doesn't mean it fits into the entire color; first strike is RedWhite territory.

It's a crying shame the first "First strike, deathtouch" card wasn't BlackRed because that would have actually made more sense from a flavor perspective, and I'm sure there are plenty of Rakdos players out there tired of getting shafted that would appreciate the gesture as well.

When I saw this card, the card Moonglove Extract actually found a home. I'm surprised that no one else seems to have thought of that. The closest I see is Blazing Torch, and Extract is far simpler to use.

My musings aside, I'm glad to see that my favorite critter in Mirrodin getting a facelift. I'm a bit disappointed by how most of HER story isn't actually written as an actual story, but whatever.

This new version is so much better than the original, though. I likey!

I'll use this space to agree, people going "ZOMG HOT MAGIC CARD" is kind of gross. Have you ever seen a real person talk about how sexy a magic card is? Its kind of... well... sad.

That aside, Glissa is a *fantastic* Commander. The casting cost can bite you sometimes, but she's the perfect colors to run a lot of Scars artifacts. Repeatable combo with Mindslaver, repeatable combo with Wayfarer's Twig, Wanderer's Bauble, and Traveler's Amulet(Or as I call them, the Tourist's Trio) makes it so missing a land-drop in her deck is a rare occurance.

Granted, if I had cards like Wurm-Coil, I might get more use out of her, or the Colossi, but even without spending the money, still a fantastic commander.

Kinda stupid powerful. 3/3 First Strike Deathtouch for 3 is already pretty powerful, but that artifact retrieval is one of the most abusable abilities I've ever seen. Not sure how I feel about that.

Man, you can tell who is commenting here. Does it occur to no one how undercosted she is? God, the power creep.

3/3, First Strike, Deathtouch for 3??? 5/5
She's amazing even without her bonus ability; which is meaningless for me as I don't run many artifacts.
I think there are only two possible reasons she's not rated 5/5;
1)Specific mana cost; but at only 3cmc it's not a big deal (plus one is green!)
2)Legendary; Running 4 is possible but not necessary.

Birthing Pod & Mimic Vat play well with Golgari...not to mention zombies, generally. Rings of Brighthearth double her activated affect. Oddly synergistic with Trinisphere, which everybody will try to put into the graveyard.

@MattLynn
*Sigh* For the umpteenth time (or so I've seen today anyway), Rings only works on -activated- abilities, not -triggered- abilities.
Glissa's ability is an optional -triggered- ability that triggers whenever an opponent's creature hits the 'yard.

Her bonus ability is kinda useless as artifact decks have access to better cards and elf decks don't make use of artifacts. Compare it to Loxodon Smiter - even though Smiter is an elephant that can't kill bigger folks as Glissa does, I prefer having that card in my elf deck because its anti-discard and anti-control abilities make it more significant.

A lot of people hating on the power creep. This card isn't that bad imo. It is strong for CMC, but THREE coloured mana symbols, as well as 2 colours in it, in a set that has NO ENEMY COLOUR DUAL LANDS hardly seems broken. There would be a lot of games where you miss it as a 3-drop unless your deck was heavily geared towards that colour combination (as in mostly green with a bit of black).

Her last ability is far from useless. It's both interesting, and strong. If you board wipe when she's in play, you get an artifact from your graveyard for each creature your opponent(s) had. Talk about double the card advantage.

This card is also a really cool general. There's a lot of things you can do with that ability.

Wow, first strike and deathtouch mean that almost no creatures can kill her, she is also black which means almost no removal. The third ability goes great with the first and second.

Wow...
What an undercosted card.
3 cmc for a creature that kills anything that blocks it, plus the artifact-restoring ability (even if it is out of color)

And it evades doom blades.

Only four stars? It's a 3/3 first strike death touch for 3... that's the definition of value. She's also a legendary which is both good and bad (commander). In a deck where black has a ton of removal getting a creature in the graveyard is not hard. This deserves at least a 4.5/5 because of flavor, how dark this actually is in the story, and the value.
