I made a deck with this and Skaab Ruinator. It's obscene. This is gonna be a monster in standard

This is simply great card design. Feed the source of his strength and trample makes him very relevant. I can easily see a mill deck in standard running this.

Compare this to Boneyard Wurm. It's interesting to consider what an additional 1, an additional rarity level, and shift to a (in my opinion) more relevant creature type, is apparently worth.

He's going to be good friends with Karador.

Brutal in limited, and I'm totally running it in standard. He has plenty of friends in blue and green (:

Played this card at pre-release today... looked in grave after casting, stupidly enough... no creatures xD

I hate this card. I went 4-1 at the pre release and in game 3 in the last round the guy had 2 out against my G/W weenies. 3rd place was awesome, don't get me wrong, but a booster box would have made my life.

@infernox10: but then you'll just mill it away again before you draw it next turn, so you need some card draw to get that card into hand. otherwise it's completely pointless.

this guy is one of my favourite cards from innistrad, and i have really high hopes for him in standard.

Remember Golgari Grave Troll? Well, this guy isn't as good. But it's okay! He costs 2 less.

A hilarious play happened the other day. My opponent threw one onto the field with exactly two creatures in the yard. They were both Llanowar Elves that were sacrificed with the intention of fueling this guy. And as luck would have it, I had Surgical Extraction in my hand. I don't think I need to explain what immediately happened next.

Hands down my favorite card from Innistrand.

Prior to discovering how well he worked with blue, I actually put him in a G/W deck. It had cards like Unruly Mob and Auramancer in it, so there was some method to the madness. Unshockingly, whenever Splinterfright hit the field was the only time that deck won but man were they interesting games.

My personal favorite match involved Splinterfright enchanted with a Wreath of Geists. a Trollhide, and a Lifelink. I won the game with 116 life, four cards left in my library, and a 40/40 creature. And my opponent had a Ranks of Endless Dead out. :)

What's the deal with people talking about cards like Noxious Revival and Wreath of Gheists?

You do realize that, when you play this card, you will only see every third card of your deck?

I currently have a Standard-legal deck that I play at home with my friends that includes Splinterfright. I have not seen a single post on here that regards my unique playstyle.

EVERYTHING has to have a purpose in the graveyard - especially if you're milling everything anyway. There is no room for chances, no room to leave cards that you cannot get anything for. Milling Noxious Revival means that you've guaranteed yourself 1 less possible power and toughness.

Let's not forget about...

Kessig Cagebreakers
Spider Spawning

If there is going to be a massive amount of anything in your graveyard, and you build a deck full of creatures, then say hello to, at least, guaranteed endless ranks of spiders. Kessig comes in handy as a draw, but still feeds the power of the deck even if it is in the graveyard. Plus...

Avacyn's Pilgrim
Unburial Rites

Who cares if you mill Kessig now? Get it back for cheaper than its usual CMC!

Elder of Laurels

Got a token army? Swing without fear of your critical creatures (Kessig & Splinterfright) dying to being blocked by non-deathtouch creatures.

Gnaw to the Bone

Because you can never have too much life security.

The mono-green deck type enables use of low cost mana-giving creatures and, hey, look at Dawntreader Elk. Get the mana you need to flash back certain cards before you mill it out, and then add another creature to your graveyard to fuel the war effort.

The only things that should be useless in your graveyard should be Mulch and land cards.

This guy can be powerful, just be wary of Nihil Spellbomb and Tormod's Crypt, both can ruin your plans by eliminating your graveyard =/

Very nice in self-mill/reanimator. In a proper deck (say, with The Mimeoplasm in the lead), it can be a monster and a consistent grave-feeder. Loving the spooky art as well.

@JFM2796

I had a play just like that. I was running a slightly modified version of the grave power intro deck at my last FNM. My opponent was running red, and on her turn, she attacked me with everything she had. I had a Ghoultree and a Splinterfright on the field, but I didn't block. She knocked me down to 3 life. She was still at 20, but at this point, she was also tapped out. On my turn, I drew a wreath of geists, pumped my Splinterfright from 8/8 to 16/16 and swung for lethal.

Expletives were involved.

@Diamondragan

That's the strategy I run now. Everything in my deck is either designed to let me discard cards, or designed to capitalize off of the cards I discarded. I consistently mill myself out by turn 15.

So made a self mill deck. Popped in four of these to help with the milling. The idea, of course, is to win off of Laboratory Maniac.
They're more like an alternative wincon now because Splinterfright beats so much face it isn't funny. Good heavens.

With Golgari's new Scavenge keyword, I have a feeling this guy will see some serious improvements.
Also, Grisly Salvage (When it comes to Gatherer, it'll work.)

The one thing I'm confused about is how it tramples. I'm not arguing, but it just seems odd given the art.

Golgari decks are now IN!
Since RTR gave us such brilliant cards as Lotleth Troll, Deathrite Shaman, and Grisly Salvage, it's entirely plausible to get a 6/6 or 7/7 beatstick on the field by turn 3 or 4!
Dump 2 or 3 creatures to Lotleth Troll, jumpstarting your graveyard count, Grisly Salvage some more creatures in there, and use Deathrite Shaman to ramp some unneeded lands in the grave into more Boneyard Wurms or Splinterfrights!
We also got Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord to feed off the resulting mill, and even as a sac engine for massive bulk damage!
5/5 for his newfound prowess in Ravnica!
EDIT: As a quick aside, let's not forget the benefit of splashing blue for a couple copies of Forbidden Alchemy and Artful Dodge! And with that, a fatties best friend is a lategame land called "Rogue's Passage"!

Sweet, another Lhurgoyf-like creature to play with. Pretty good synergy with Ghoultree, Grisly Salvage, Tracker's Instinct and a crap-ton of other stuff in Standard.

Nice design, but he would make more sense as a Black creature.

Synergizes great with the gruul's bloodrush mechanic. Uncounterable pump spell that puts a creature into the gy as well.

I have this one in a BG Varolz, the Scar-Striped scavenge aggro deck. It feeds the graveyard with more creatures to scavenge (Death's Shadow and Phyrexian Dreadnought), and trample ensures that he'll punch through if it's big enough. And when I dump a chunk of my library into my graveyard via Hermit Druid, he gets huge fast.

@DiamondDragon: Who said anything about Noxious Revival and/or Wreath of Geists?? I'm not trying to be be a jerk, it's just that, well.. I searched the entire page and besides your posting, I didn't see the words Noxious OR Wreath used once? I know, I know- They were thinkin it so before it could be said, you stepped up and shut it DOWN, huh bro.. LoL! xD Well done and well said cause, I completely agree with your logic!

@SonorHC: But isn't the point of this guy to get AND keep your graveyard full? Play that other dude and you're actually hurting Sprite. But at the same time, building your army.. Hmmm. I think I may agree with you more than I originally thought I disagreed, haha.. But, there's got to be better "duos" than the aforementioned.

*I would bet on this guy here being the MVP in the right BlueGreen or BlueGreenBlack deck. Personally, I'd keep it straight U/G too. At least within the set/block. Cause quite frankly, in block, none other than Blue fills a yard better while SWIFTLY boosting Sprites p/t. I also like the thought of ramping turns 1-3, making sure your elves, birds and Deranged Assistants don't die and then possibly Beast Withining them to keep card advantage while even turbo accelerating Sprites p/t and as an added bi-product bonus, making your ENTIRE army stronger! ;)

Other fun ideas- Incandescent Soulstoke

Buried Alive looks nice too!
