Such a perfect reprint.

Welcome back!
I think this has better flavor than it did in Zendikar. Just sayin.

Shame we didn't have werewolves yet when this was first printed. Aren't they supposed to fear fire as well?

I really like this thing. It fits, and the new art is fantastic.
At the prerelease I ran two and killed so much good stuff with them. I don't remember making use of the evasion at all, but colorless removal is always welcome.

Bizarre as the flavor is... I'm dumping these into my werewolf deck. Four of them.
Everything else I have is either werewolves, werewolf help, or manna acceleration... SO I think this is going to be my removal.

at the pre-release people were always using them to deal damage, neglecting that the protection could have been more useful at the time. I was at 3 life and had Olivia Voldaren out and my opponent had a 4/4 and this. Instead of swinging with the creature with PROTECTION FROM VAMPIRES, he sacrificed the torch to deal damage with it to a weakened (2/2) olivia. i used her ability on my opponents creature to put her out of range and then later took control of the creature and won.

Please, remember this card has more than one function!

this card was super awesome at the pre-release with Galvanic Juggernaut

The flavor is somewhat questionable, but I enjoyed equipping this to my Stromkirk Noble. A Slith that can't be blocked by Humans, Zombies, or Vampires is unquestionably relevant. Still couldn't get around Typhoid Rats though.

My only complaint is that I didn't run against anyone running more than 2 or 3 of either vampires or zombies during the pre-release. I mostly had to deal with WhiteGreenBlue, and the Blue was lacking creatures.. It still managed to take out some threats, so it wasn't useless. Flexible, with a solid protection when you need it.

The evasion is slightly relevant in this format, but quite frankly, a colorless Shock at the common slot should be welcome by most people.

Blazing Torch's secret third use: it's cheap enough that if you need to flip some damn werewolves, it's an easy second card. So many people drop it first turn without thinking about how useful a one-drop can be at reverting werewolves or keeping them human. By the time you actually need it, you'll probably be able to play and equip it without a major disruption to your gameplan.

It's back, and it's common! Hooray!

Also, people, don't forget it can deal 2 damage to a creature OR a player. During one game (which I later did lose anyhow), a guy could have killed me during an attack if he had just sacked the torch and flamed me for two - but he had thought it only targeted creatures. After his turn was over, I informed him of his mistake, seeing I was pretty much doomed anyhow... He was quite distraught.

Also, the form of the torch here... Is that one of those neck collar gadgets? That would be really evil to set that on fire!

I love it when they transplant cards with flavor from their original planes into completely new planes where they make just as much sense.

Combine this with a card that gives or has Vigilance. It would not only be able to defeat an opponent with a Zombie-Drain deck, but a powerful card could defend too.

My Black Knight is walking out and about on border patrol. In his hands he holds a Blazing Torch. When he suddenly see's an Etched Champion coming towards him. My Knight instinctively throws a Blazing Torch at it and sets the Etched Champion on fire. The knight manically laughs at the hunk of molten steel, wondering why so many feared the Etched Champion and why nobody else ever thought to kill the almighty champion with a torch. As the Knight looked through the Buried Ruin, he got his torch and lit it again. The Black Knight went back on patrol to make sure the he alone claimed the Contested War Zone.

Moral of the story, this is an easy way to kill Etched Champion. 5/5 in my book.

I love it in limited. Its more or less colorless burn. I usually draft U/W, so one or two of these comes in very handy. Lots of things die at 2 damage.

In a world teeming with vampires and zombies, it would make sense for flaming torches to be rather common.

This brings to mind the LotR scene on Weathertop, where Aragorn uses his torch to drive off the ringwraiths, then throws it to get rid of the last one...
