Yes! This guy's the coolest artifact of all time. Not only is he ridiculously big and somewhat resistant to counter-spells, he looks rather Steampunk. Master Transmute him right on to the field and hope your opponent doesn't have a Path to Exile.

This card is great, but not perfect. I've been frustrated many times by him being removed from the game with {W} via Path To Exile. Arguably better than Inkwell Leviathan, as although Inkwell has shroud, it's still only a 7/11 creature, as compared to Mr. Darksteel being an 11/11. Inkwell can also be killed by something like a Woolly Thoctar combo-ed with a Knight Of New Alara and a Sigil Blessing to suprise you once you've declared him a blocker. Although, Inkwell's shroud does come in handy with all the cards that remove targets from the battlefield. Darksteel wins against Wrath Of God or Planar Cleansing though. ((:
In all, a great, relatively stable card that any deck that wants to make full use of Master Transmuter or Elvish Piper should have. 4.5/5

Reasins Progenitus is better. 1. Progenitus is unblockable. 2. Progenitus can't be killed by spells that remove him from the game (Unless it is a global effect) 3. Progenitus can't be taken control of by another player 4. Progenitus can be boosted using knight of new alara, to a whopping 15/15
Reasons Darksteel is better 1. Darksteel can be boosted 2. Darksteel can withstand the wrath of god 3, With the right cards, you can make duplicates of darksteel 4. you can have more than one darksteel in play at the same time Make your own choice, but I personally think progenitus is better,

technically "indestructible" dose not defend against "bury" effects. (I checked the comprehensive rules, bury means "put into the grave yard") Also, boomerang, time ebb (especially with a little bit of mill power) unmake, certain versions of wrath of god, giant oyster, etc.
With progentius, I would just about give up hope, if I ever saw it on the field. This guy though... I could beat him with relative ease.

I'm glad they chose to reprint the Colossus, although his name makes less sense now than when he first appeared in the Darksteel expansion... I can imagine many newbies wondering what "Darksteel" is supposed to mean :b
The inclusion of this card in M10 was sort of confusing for me. They're trying to reboot core set flavor, or at least make it specific to Dominaria, so Counsel of the Soratami got renamed so it didn't reference Kamigawa. Hmm... so then why didn't this guy get a functional reprint? If someone can show me a reference to darksteel that isn't related to Mirrodin, I'll understand. Too bad there aren't any.

In all seriousness, this guy is really, really powerful... as he should be. At 11CC, he is virtually unplayable barring some major-league mana rampage and/or summoning shennangians like Master Transmuter.
If and when he hits the table, you better seriously hope that you have something that removes a creature from the game, bounces him, or takes control of him. If not, it's going to be over very quickly.

TOTALLY agree with spoonish, not being able to stay in graveyard is actually bad, really bad, lets say your opponent plays the ultimate ability of Jace beleren, so you put 20 cards in your graveyard, if the colossus didn't had his stupid "i cant stay in graveyard" effect you could play a rise from the grave and get an 11/11 for five mana, besides this card is pretty much useless without an elvish piper or some serious mana aceleration.
nice art though

So the official rulings for this card are that lethal damage won't put it into a graveyard.... But later it says when it's toughness is reduced to 0 is a way to put it in a graveyard.... so does combat damage and direct damage not kill this thing???

I have one in my pet artifact deck. I fetch him up with Fabricate and cheat him into play with the Transmuter. Everyone proceeds to target me soon after. Easily my favorite card, in terms of both flavor and ability. He hits the table with a huge *slam* that no one can really ignore, and can kill an unguarded opponent in two hits, on top of being extremely resilient. The best thing about M10, in my opinion, was the decision to reprint him.

it might not be THE perfect card, but its pretty close though. i own this card (just got it yesterday from a draft) and the only thing i dont like about this bad boy is his manacost. a quick way to fix this a bit is with etherium sculptor (x4). another thing thats annoying is "exiling" effects such as path to exile, oblivion ring, etc. as anyone noticed how white became overpowered and how blue got diminished? anyways... whispersilk cloak is THE best thing to equip on colossus as it WILL become the ultimate creature as it will be unblockable, indestructible, un-exilable.

The poor guy just got utterly obliterated at the colorless 11 mana slot by Ulamog, the Infinity Gyre.
Darksteel pros: *+1/+1 extra *Trample *Not legendary
Darksteel cons: *Doesn't destroy a permanent on being cast *Doesn't have annihilator 4
Neutrals: *One's an artifact, one's an eldrazi (different cost reductions and tutoring available)
Really, +1/+1 and trample doesn't make up for having destroyed 5 permanents by the time it makes its first attack. Which is interesting considering they're both mythics. ^^

A new player wouldn't be confused by the name 'Darksteel Colossus'. Its sounds like a typical, generic fantasy monster.
Counsel of the Soratami on the other hand is too specific to the Kamigawa, and new players would not get it.

The poor guy just got utterly obliterated at the colorless 11 mana slot by Ulamog, the Infinity Gyre.
The only thing that really matters for ulamog is the "destroy permanent". Annihilator is really overrated; by the time you can actually get ulamog into play and THEN attack the next turn (no haste lol), your opponent will just sac lands or fodder creatures, and then ulamog gets chump blocked. If your opponent doesn't have enough lands or fodder creatures to sac, then your board position is so godly it doesn't even matter whether you had ulamog or DSC. Plus, ulamog's ETB vindicate doesn't work if you cheat it into play; you have to hardcast it, and at 11 mana glhf with that.
DSC isn't that awesome either, at least in standard/extended, since if you wanted to cheat a fattie into play progenitus/iona/etc are probably better options. Against ulamog it's still probably better, since DSC is likely to win the game when it attacks, since its trample means it doesn't get chump blocked forever.
More importantly in DSC's favor, however, in Vintage it can be tinker'd.

However, unlike ulamog, you can get darksteel colossus on 2nd turn. By simply casting a 0 drop spellbook first turn and a lanowar elves. then next turn drop your second land and tinker into this guy.
Better yet. if you have the money to get chrome moxxes then you can get him out on turn 1. by mearly imprinting 3 chrome moxes 1st turn tapping them for mana and sacrificing one of the chrome moxes for the tinker you get a turn 1 drop Darksteel colossus.

Wouldnt the easiest way to deal with Darksteel Collosus be to use something like Oblivion Ring? Then he is out until the enchantment is broken. Alternatly as black play with a creature that has deathtouch and cast a regenerate enchantment on the deathtouch creature so it will be ready each turn to block. I would love to cast Traitor's Roar on this card in a game.
Still looks like an excellent card if it arrives at the right time.

The Darksteel Colossus was never intended as an easy reanimation target just like the legendary Eldrazi were not intended as easy reanimation targets. There was no functional reprint of the Darksteel Colossus because there is no need for a second 11/11 trample, indestructible creature in the game.
Also, unlike the legendary Eldrazi creatures triggered effects, the Colossus's effect isn't triggered, it's a replacement effect such that it is automatically reshuffled into the deck and never actually hits the graveyard.

@ tenkaze
I think that now with the release of Scars of Morrodin close at hand, this creature's reprinting was a foreshadowing to this new set seeing as the old Morrodin set is being revisited in a way. In terms of flavour however, I'm not personally versed in the Magic: the Gathering lore so I''m not gunna go any further than that.
I personally appreciate this card being reprinted making it both more obtainable and more playable (in standard at least, lol). True, getting him out in standard does pose a slight issue if you'r not mana ramping, but I'm sure SoM will have at least one addition that'll make this mountain of rocky-goodness hit the battlefield almost as quickly as Tinker does in vintage (or at least I hope so)! And if not, it'll at least make him more playable. :)

The new card Blightsteel Colossus from Mirrodin Besieged is almost the same creature as this, except it costs one colorless more and has infect. Brutal. A poison kill from one creature without any buffs of any sort even if it is blocked by a 1/1, and the trample ensures that some damage is getting across no matter what. I think everyone realizes Blighsteel Colossus is better in the abstract, but for simple economic reasons I will take Darksteel, since I can get DSC for less than $1.00 each, and BSC is still about $15.00 at the cheapest. To me, that makes DSC much more worthy of being in my deck.
And if we're throwing out cheap ways to get him in without paying costs (in Casual at least), I prefer Defense of the Heart, which can get me two of these, or one of these and one It That Betrays. And if I can't draw the Defense, Pattern of Rebirth will work all right too.

I'm working on an artifact deck with no lands, affinity for artifacts and 0 drops all the way! and this is going to be my finisher after I drop Mycosynth Golem for zero mana. actually I'm leaning towards having two of this guy and two blightsteel collossuses just to be a dick. srsly I plan to never have a single mana in my mana pool for the whole game.
oh I just went and looked at the prices, the deck is going to cost about $130 I think I'm actually just going to use darksteel colossus because he costs less and I'm poor.
So would Blilght take him down because of the neg 1 counters.

My recipe for a third turn Darksteel Colossus:
Turn 1: Island, say hello Turn 2: Island, Etherium Sculptor Turn 3: Island, 2 more Etherium Sculptors, free Thousand-Year Elixir, free Darksteel Ingot (or a similar mana charm), and then Master Transmuter for . Tap the ingot for and activate Transmuter's ability, and trade one of your dudes for this guy. Turn 4: Dominate.
It requires a godly hand (including going after your opponent for the first draw) and is super fragile, so it's strictly only for casual. But it's really delicious if you can do it. It's also much easier to do by the fourth turn if you have a weaker hand (no elixir, less mana accel, etc.), and frequently its about as good.

Use the blue Braids to get this out early. Add in a Bosh, Iron Golem. Attack with Colossus, fling it with bosh, 22 damage.

Really, what can be said about this card that hasn't already been said? It's classic, easy to cheat out, and hits like a supersonic meteor strike.
I remember one time my cousin let me borrow this for my dragon deck. One seize the day later + flashback i did 33 damage in one turn. He quickly made me give it back.

Selah!!!"
I knew if i kept the four of these boys i'd be able to use them again someday.
Thanks guys.
"Superman?"
He also looks rather like the Iron Giant. :p
not being able to stay in the graveyard is NOT good.. having him permanently stay somewhere even if its the graveyard is a lot more useful than being lost in the deck somewhere
Also I'm dumb, since I think I had 2 and traded them both.
And now he's even available for every format again with the updated slightly darkened artifact design :D
Well not with Lurking Predators, Elvish piper, and any other creature-fixers in Zendikar! They wont be able to keep up!
Say hello to my little friend!!!....RATATATATAT
Scarface
In all, a great, relatively stable card that any deck that wants to make full use of Master Transmuter or Elvish Piper should have. 4.5/5
MIND CONTROL
*cheers* :)
Try stifle-ing his ability, then reanimation. Of course, you would also run the significantly better Progenitus for that strategy, but still.
Pulled one, felt lucky to beable to buy 3 more some time latter-- and for six bucks a pop XD
Swords to plowshares will give darksteel's controller 11 life. Much better to use path to exile and just give them a tapped basic land instead.
1. Progenitus is unblockable.
2. Progenitus can't be killed by spells that remove him from the game (Unless it is a global effect)
3. Progenitus can't be taken control of by another player
4. Progenitus can be boosted using knight of new alara, to a whopping 15/15
Reasons Darksteel is better
1. Darksteel can be boosted
2. Darksteel can withstand the wrath of god
3, With the right cards, you can make duplicates of darksteel
4. you can have more than one darksteel in play at the same time
Make your own choice, but I personally think progenitus is better,
With progentius, I would just about give up hope, if I ever saw it on the field. This guy though... I could beat him with relative ease.
Base rating: ***
Huge manna cost: -* */2
Indestructible colossus: +**
Other trick I don't care about: +*/2
Final: ****
I think progentius is cooler, harder to use, but cooler.
Big hitters like this one should be cheated into play with mana acceleration into a Dramatic Entrance, or with a Master Transmuter :b
4/5
nice art though
Goes great with my Canopy Covers and elvish pipers.
Darksteel pros:
*+1/+1 extra
*Trample
*Not legendary
Darksteel cons:
*Doesn't destroy a permanent on being cast
*Doesn't have annihilator 4
Neutrals:
*One's an artifact, one's an eldrazi (different cost reductions and tutoring available)
Really, +1/+1 and trample doesn't make up for having destroyed 5 permanents by the time it makes its first attack. Which is interesting considering they're both mythics. ^^
Counsel of the Soratami on the other hand is too specific to the Kamigawa, and new players would not get it.
Better yet. if you have the money to get chrome moxxes then you can get him out on turn 1. by mearly imprinting 3 chrome moxes 1st turn tapping them for mana and sacrificing one of the chrome moxes for the tinker you get a turn 1 drop Darksteel colossus.
(yes I know it's easier to just use the master to put him into play I'm just curious)
Still looks like an excellent card if it arrives at the right time.
Short answer, yes.
Also, unlike the legendary Eldrazi creatures triggered effects, the Colossus's effect isn't triggered, it's a replacement effect such that it is automatically reshuffled into the deck and never actually hits the graveyard.
If not, meet the Blightsteel Colossus: http://bit.ly/h3iT0O
Dear god. xD
And if we're throwing out cheap ways to get him in without paying costs (in Casual at least), I prefer Defense of the Heart, which can get me two of these, or one of these and one It That Betrays. And if I can't draw the Defense, Pattern of Rebirth will work all right too.
and this is going to be my finisher after I drop Mycosynth Golem for zero mana. actually I'm leaning towards having two of this guy and two blightsteel collossuses just to be a dick.
srsly I plan to never have a single mana in my mana pool for the whole game.
oh I just went and looked at the prices, the deck is going to cost about $130 I think I'm actually just going to use darksteel colossus because he costs less and I'm poor.
I dunno, probably because it's something like a $300+ card. ;)
Once again someone fails to understand the term "strictly better/worse". This only applies if a card is better or worse in every sense. This is not "strictly worse" than Blightsteel Colossus because it costs one less mana to cast.
Several turns and 6 of these later...it was over...
An excellent card that won't get Standard player's undergarments all in a twist, because it's too expensive for anybody to be playing on the 5-turn clock that every professional deck is running off of.
*waits for 10 people to yell at me before someone gets it*
I dig giant robots
We dig giant robots
Chicks dig giant robots
NICE!!
Turn 1: Island, say hello
Turn 2: Island, Etherium Sculptor
Turn 3: Island, 2 more Etherium Sculptors, free Thousand-Year Elixir, free Darksteel Ingot (or a similar mana charm), and then Master Transmuter for
Turn 4: Dominate.
It requires a godly hand (including going after your opponent for the first draw) and is super fragile, so it's strictly only for casual. But it's really delicious if you can do it. It's also much easier to do by the fourth turn if you have a weaker hand (no elixir, less mana accel, etc.), and frequently its about as good.
turn 1: forest
turn 2: forest, tap both forest and play vine trellis
turn 3: forest, tap all mana and vine trellis to play elvish piper
turn 4: forest, tap 3 mana and elvish piper to bring out Darksteel Colossus with canopy cover on him for the hexproof/unblockable
turn 5: start winning (if you have lifelink enchantments, then throw those at him like theres no tomorrow
Oddly innocent look to it despite its imposing stature?
Indestructable?
If it does happen to end up dead it slowly pulls itself back together?
Has a crazy evil version that destroys everything in its path?
"Hogarth..."
Come on! You were all thinking it!
