William Murai only has a few cards under his belt but I will average their art at 4.8/5. I think they REALLY should have given this guy one more little ability and made him a legend to add to the pool of {G}{U} EDH generals since his art is worthy and dropping a second one on the field as a 4/6 Elf Wizard Mutant is not very good anyway.

I want to like this guy, but he's too slow. People are already proxy-testing him and he's losing games against a lot of what is currently good in standard. He might be aimed at some kind of a combo deck in the future maybe, but I don't see why you'd want to be encouraged not to play your creatures until turn 5 where they can be bigger. And I don't see mid-range deck wanting him either.

Jan 24th 2013: I'm just going to make a prediction here that Master Biomancer will be the break out card at the upcoming pro tour Gatecrash and consequently after the tournament be worth at least double of what it is now.
For example: T3 biomancer (off an arbor elf or something), T4 rancor and cast huntmaster of the fells. No Verdict? GG.
The ability is too explosive and stacks with itself to boot that I just can't see how this card isn't simply out of this world.

An excellent, albeit not flashy combo I used at the prerelease was this guy and Ivy Lane Denizen. Every time a green creature came into play, I would put the Denizen's counter on the Biomancer so that his power increased and then I would put the Biomancer's counters on the creature coming into play. It got out of hand fast!

@ Secksee Actually, 'as' is grammatically correct in this case. If you remove the part about the +1/+1 counters, the text reads as "Each other creature you control enters the battlefield as a Mutant in addition to its other types". Note that this has an additional effect - it means that creatures you control that are already on the battlefield when Master Biomancer enters the battlefield do not spontaneously become Mutants. The additional type only applies to new creatures.

Renegade Krasis + Corpsejack Menace + Biomancer (with Ring of Kalonia) + Fungal Sprouting = EVIL ARMY FULL OF EPICNESS!!
As long as Biomancer is at least 1/1 above Krasis, you're set..
Chuck down Krasis, and the Menace... Then Biomancer.. Krasis gets a +1/+1 counter due to its Evolve ability, its second ability add a counter to Menace and The Master... and Corpsejack double that, so they all get two counters.... Then chuck down a Fungal Spouting for, i believe six 1/1 Saproling tokens (I believe Menace would have the highest power at this stage).... When they all enter.. let the evilness begin... They'd get soooo many counters, 4 from Biomancer, doubling that for Menace.. So there's easily six 9/9 creatures for the cost of 4 Mana... And sine they're all higher than Krasis, he evolves... and this is where my brain explodes from mathematics overload...
1st Saproling enters: Krasis 6/5, Menance 8/8. Biomancer 6/8, Saproling #1 13/13 2nd Saproling enters: Krasis 8/7, Menace 10/10, Biomancer 8/10, Saproling #1 15/15, Sap #2 (I believe) 17/17 (enters with that much), I think I did that right... They'd get 8 from Biomancer, and Corpsejack doubles that.. 3rd Saproling enters: Krasis 10/9, Menace 12/12, Biomancer 10/12, Sap #1 17/17, Sap #2 19/19, Sap #3 21/21 4th Enters: Krasis 12/11, Menane 14/14, Biomancer 12/14, Sap #1 19/19, Sap #2 21/21, Sap #3 23/23, Sap #4 25/25 5th enters: Krasis 14/13, Menace 16/16, Biomancer 14/16, Sap #1 21/21, Sap # 23/23 Sap #3 25/25, Sap #4 27/27. Sap #5 29/29 6th Enters Krasis 16/15, Menace 18/18, Biomancer 16/18, Sap #1 123/23, Sap #2 25/25. Sap #3 27/27, Sap #4 29/29. Sap #5 31/31, Sap #6 33/33

Best combo I can think of in standard:
Turn 1: Arbor Elf Turn 2: Renegade Krasis Turn 3: Master Biomancer Turn 4: Giant Growth on Biomancer + Fungal Sprouting You'll end up with: 1/1, 7/6, 2/4 (buffed to 4/7), 9/9, 8/8, 7/7, 6/6, 6/6
Alternate Turn 4: Turn 4: Burst of Strength or Hunger of the Howlpack on Biomancer + Fungal Sprouting Assuming that morbid didn't trigger (otherwise we'd need a scientific calculator): 1/1, 8/7, 7/9, 8/8, 8/8, 8/8, 8/8
Now just hope that you are not up against Boros Reckoner.

@forestlore44 Actually, yes, the more people want the card the more packs get purchased and opened in order to find the cards you're after, so while you're somewhat right, you're also wrong, to say that Mythic Rarity has not caused Wizards to receive more money is either ignorant, stupid, or both. Do you honestly think that printing JTMS didn't sell an obscenely larger number of packs? Of course it did. You think that its the consumer market system that makes cards expensive? True, but don't think for a second that Wizards don't know exactly what they're doing.
@Mirrordin_Pure I might be wrong but I don't think that there is a combo with door of destinies because you're not casting mutants, you're casting other creatures that only become mutants when they enter the battlefield

When I got back into MTG a few months back, I pulled a foil Biomancer in my first booster and fell in love at first sight. He is the perfect embodiment of a hybrid Johnny/Timmy player. Timmy is happy to play Worldspine Wurm, but Johnny/Timmy would much rather have an army of 7/7 Elvish Mystics.
Spike, on the other hand, is unimpressed, since his Desecration Demon does just fine without the additional counters. But you know what, Spike? No one ever asks for your creative input on anything, so just go back to copy/pasting netdecks and leave the cards with limitless potential to the rest of us.

This is an excellent focus for Death's Presence. If you have at least more of this on the field, you can just keep using Conjurer's Closet to flicker out the weakest. If you're running WGU, Cathars' Crusade provides a nice boost to this, and if you add in Mirror-Sigil Sergeant then it's even more fun. If you're running BUG, use Varolz, the Scar-Striped to scavenge onto this. Also, has some real potential with Gruul. Instead of casting that Rubblehulk, how about you bloodrush it onto this and then summon up some cheap creatures during main phase 2? In the way of more modest combos, you could also combo with Ordeal of Thassa to generate some power increase and potentially draw some creatures to benefit from this power increase.
There's a lot to do with this card, I really like it.

Yeah, its good, but its a pretty generic (design-wise), non-legendary, low cost (especially for green) card that isn't a finisher, requires almost no "building around", and is probably going to be a 3 or 4 of in any deck that runs it. Nothing about this says mythic.
And before anyone says that its too good for a rare, if that's the case they should have added 1 to the mana cost.

Plays really well with Master of Waves in a little deck I like to call Devotion to Masters.
If you are trying to pump Master Biomancer using "add +1/+1 counters" effects, you may notice how unreliable it is.
Diviner's Wand: If you cast the wand first, you won't pay the equip cost because Master Biomancer is a Wizard. Now you can pump with card draw spells, which are more beneficial to you anyway. Brainstorm + Strangleroot Geist = a 5/4 haste for UGG.

4th Enters: Krasis 12/11, Menane 14/14, Biomancer 12/14, Sap #1 19/19, Sap #2 21/21, Sap #3 23/23, Sap #4 25/25
5th enters: Krasis 14/13, Menace 16/16, Biomancer 14/16, Sap #1 21/21, Sap # 23/23 Sap #3 25/25, Sap #4 27/27. Sap #5 29/29
6th Enters Krasis 16/15, Menace 18/18, Biomancer 16/18, Sap #1 123/23, Sap #2 25/25. Sap #3 27/27, Sap #4 29/29. Sap #5 31/31, Sap #6 33/33
I think I did that math correct.... If so, that's bloody evil and cheap!!!
I'm new to Magic so could someone correct that....
Turn 1: Arbor Elf
Turn 2: Renegade Krasis
Turn 3: Master Biomancer
Turn 4: Giant Growth on Biomancer + Fungal Sprouting
You'll end up with:
1/1, 7/6, 2/4 (buffed to 4/7), 9/9, 8/8, 7/7, 6/6, 6/6
Alternate Turn 4:
Turn 4: Burst of Strength or Hunger of the Howlpack on Biomancer + Fungal Sprouting
Assuming that morbid didn't trigger (otherwise we'd need a scientific calculator):
1/1, 8/7, 7/9, 8/8, 8/8, 8/8, 8/8
Now just hope that you are not up against Boros Reckoner.
Actually, yes, the more people want the card the more packs get purchased and opened in order to find the cards you're after, so while you're somewhat right, you're also wrong, to say that Mythic Rarity has not caused Wizards to receive more money is either ignorant, stupid, or both. Do you honestly think that printing JTMS didn't sell an obscenely larger number of packs? Of course it did. You think that its the consumer market system that makes cards expensive? True, but don't think for a second that Wizards don't know exactly what they're doing.
Spike, on the other hand, is unimpressed, since his Desecration Demon does just fine without the additional counters. But you know what, Spike? No one ever asks for your creative input on anything, so just go back to copy/pasting netdecks and leave the cards with limitless potential to the rest of us.
And before anyone says that its too good for a rare, if that's the case they should have added 1 to the mana cost.

Diviner's Wand: If you cast the wand first, you won't pay the equip cost because Master Biomancer is a Wizard. Now you can pump with card draw spells, which are more beneficial to you anyway. Brainstorm + Strangleroot Geist = a 5/4 haste for UGG.
Adventuring Gear: Pump with landfall. Cast Evolving Wilds + Strangleroot Geist = a 6/5 haste for GG.
