Please, please, PLEASE mean that they are reprinting it in standard.

I love seeing this at 5 stars. The only downside I can see to this card is that it costs U.

(that's a joke, btw)

When the Izzet brainstorm, they do it in the most stylish way possible.

iraah- there is one better art for Brainstorm: look up the Legacy Championship oversized one. They also did another oversized Timetwister for Vintage. But in the mean time, since Mishra is no longer 5 stars, this card needs to stay 5 stars for as long as possible :P

Story-related art in a story-related deck, even though this card won't be part of that block or legal in related formats.
I couldn't imagine a better realization of a reprint for a card from a Duel Decks series, very cool!

Her appearance seems to be inspired or even a hommage to the Mercadian Masques art, although i might be wrong with that. It's probably just the blue-ish hair.

Also, 5.00/5 with 20 votes as of now. Go Brainstorm!

Why is this in the Izzet deck rather than Ponder / Preordain?

It's simple, actually. With Niv-Mizzet out, this becomes a Lava Spike.

I'm really curious why Curiosity wasn't included into the Izzet deck, though...

I wish they would print this standard. Think of the synergy between this and all those miracle cards!

"What's that? Entreat the Angels and brainstorm, with plenty of lands in my opening hand? Why yes, I think I will cheat my way into the miracle cost for this!"

Had a friend with Djinn Illuminatus and Niv on the field. Effectively lead to a copious amount of blue lightning bolts and him drawing like 7 cards. Casual multiplayer is the tits.

Card advantage? No. Try game manipulation. There's a reason this, Ponder, and Preordain are rated quite highly.

This cards rating is higher than JTMS's WTF? but anyway, I've gotten screwed by this card against the new duel deck(I got golgari and a buddy of mine took izzet) Boy how annoying this gets when you use any multiplying card... -_-

okay who's the other son of a b**** besides timmyforever that rated this .5? yes i did the math, if 41 people rated this 5 and two poeple rated this .5 then it would roughlly be what it is now

What blue offers a card advantage for 1.5 out of 5 stars, and 0.5 to balance the score? Mono-Black controlo deck has the removal spell and fun guys! This card spell offers novice like me no thing for Mono-Black controlo! I spit on the ground before you Non Mono-Black controlo! PUH!

Mmm... it's quite nice, but I think I still prefer the Mercadian Masques art. Just my personal opinion.

Surprisingly bad. Not great at all when you are trying to dig through your deck. I prefer Forbidden Alchemy.

@ saucyninja007

Suprisingly bad? do you understand what this card does? you don't use this to dig through your library you use it to perfect your hand and to get to choose what to draw over the next two turns, giving you a free card in hand to replace itself - excellent card advantage, also allowing for the desired triggering of Delver of Secrets, or any miracle, which can usually result in complete victory. Just because you don't know how to run a card does not make it "bad" by any means, it just reflects your skills as a player.

New use: put that Temporal Mastery from your otherwise perfect opening hand back on the top of your deck.

I'm going to use this in my KRAKEN deck!

It just combos TOO well with Quest for Ula's Temple

The card that was meant to scale down the power level of Ancestral Recall, an instant speed card selection engine is still incredibly powerful. 5/5 for sheer insanity. I agree with everyone that if Brainstorm were reprinted in Standard it would be game warping. Blue would be insane with Delver of Secrets, Snapcaster Mage, Dimir Charm, Simic Charm, Azorius Charm , and Izzet Charm.

Its probably a good thing that Brainstorm isn't in standard. Also great art.

This card has quietly become one of the absolute best in the history of Magic.

It was strong library manipulation before combo. It was strong library manipulation and a combo deck enabler before it worked like BUTTER with the sac-lands, it was strong library manipulation, a combo deck enabler AND worked like butter with sac-lands before it synergized with Countertop. It was library manipulation, a combo deck enabler, worked like butter with sac lands AND synergized with Countertop BEFORE IT BECAME A NEARLY BROKEN BEAST-MACHINE WITH MIRACLE.

Now, to be honest, it might have passed counterspell as the most staple blue card in the history of the game. And is clearly already the most played.

All for a little Ice Age common. Amazing.

Obscenely powerful with shuffle effects, like fetchlands. I run 3 of this and 3 of Ancestral Vision in one of my decks. Drawing cards is pretty good.

Sets up Worldfire quite well. Just have one mountain and any 1-mana burn spell in hand. Surprised this hadn't been mentioned yet. Definitely not the best or only use, but Worldfire needs it.

Probably one of the best draw spells there is.

Pretty broken card with Misty Rainforest and other fetch lands. Basically with that combo, you draw 3 and shuffle away 2 cards for Blue at instant speed.

In EDH.
This + hive mind + Notion thief = Massive card advantage
Hidden effect of losing your friends, though, as you just drew 12 cards and they each put two on top of their libraries.

first off Forbidden Alchemy is a 3 cmc
brain storm can draw you 3 good cards and put 2 unwanted lands on top of your library, then shuffle them away with a fetch land or what ever you might use.
this can really help in many ways. imho cheers to all

I will never complain about a one mana card that says "Draw three cards."
That phrase has never caused problems in Magic. No, never.

ahh but you can keep two of the cards and the worst you will get is a warning.... "Apparently you just get a game rules violation from "failing" to put a card back with Brainstorm. " official ruling by a lvl 4 judge at GP Paris.

sick beats.... playing this card again.

This, Ponder and Preordain are compared a lot.

While I think Preordain is better in more decks, Brainstorm here goes from being a solid card, to being holy-crap-amazing in the right deck, because there are two important things it does that Ponder and Preordain don't.

First, it draws three cards. Sure, you put two back, but blue has plenty of reasons to want the words "draw 3 cards" to be on something. Thought Reflection and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind are just two.

Second, it puts cards from your hand on the top of the deck. This is fantastic with any Miracle card, or with something like Melek.

So basically, out of Brainstorm, Ponder and Preordain, the three 'ancestral-lite' cards... This card is really the only one you could ever expect to provide more use than the original Ancestral Recall.

Easy 5/5
