Nice to see some extra Commander flavor leaking into other sets. In this case, Ghave, Guru of Spores gets a say!
Otherwise, best played when you've got a huge fatty out.

At the pre-release today:

I play Primordial Hydra.
My opponent is not happy with that and plays Pacifism on it.
Primordial Hydra grows, and grows, and grows, while we have something of a standoff.

Finally I say: "I'm sick of waiting!", play Fungal Sprouting, and get 64 Saproling tokens!!!!

Next turn we have a dead opponent.

Looks like it would be good in Devour.

going in my Kresh EDH deck. Its full of fatties and combined with overwhelming stampede? Seriously insane.

Could be ok in Commander. In other formats, it's just a win more card. I give it 3/5. After all, it's four mana, sorcery speed, and at times does absolutely nothing.

Awesome, love me some saproling tokens. The flavor text is a good bonus.

With how big tokens are now, I can see this making its way into a few decks. It might also see play alongside Exalted, particularly Sublime Archangel.

I'd rate it at 4/5. The fact that it's heavily dependent on your field presence makes it very situational, as it's pretty inefficient if you don't have a creature that's at least a 4/X. However, considering that Green's primary win-con is big creatures, it evens out fairly well.

Tempted to run this in aggro.

No wait, hear me out: Drop it turn 4 with a Treacherous Pit-Dweller enchanted with Rancor (or maybe Strangleroot Geist), then use the tokens as Demonlord of Ashmouth fodder. In general, it works out nicely with Rancor (even getting three Saprolings isn't too bad, especially if you need sacrifice fodder, and especially if you can Rancor each one in turn)

Have this in my Ghave teck, along with Primordial Hydra. So freaking ridiculous. Play the hydra for as much as you can, next turn, spit out a metric butt-load of saprolings. I literally jumped for joy when I pulled this from a pack - didn't even know it existed! Absolutely fantastic card!

All I can think when I see this card is Thromok the Insatiable.

Imagine it:

Turn 6: Lets say, Primeval Titan
Turn 7: Land, Fungal Sprouting, Revive Fungal Sprouting.
Turn 8: Thromok the Insatiable, Fungal Sprouting for 36+ saproling tokens. You have a 36/36 and 36 1/1 tokens. Pretty much game and from only 3 cards.

Or even better on turn 4:

Turn 1: Forest Young Wolf
Turn 2: Forest Young Wolf dies in combat and comes back as a 2/2, Hunger of the Howlpack, Rancor
Turn 3: Forest, play a 3 drop? Attack with Young Wolf
Turn 4: Forest Fungal Sprouting for 7 Saproling Tokens. Attack with Young Wolf.
Turn 5: Forest Wolfir Silverheart soulbond with Young Wolf or just straight up Overrun.
That's pretty much game right there assuming they don't do something sneaky like vapor snag.

It's not just a win-more card. It's not that unusual to have a big fat creature out but still not be able to win, because your opponent has some way of dealing with that one single creature (a 1-per-turn chump-block generator, or a reusable chump-blocker like one with Regenerate, or a Maze of Ith-like effect, or something that prevents damage from a single source, or Pacifism, or whatever). Even if you don't have any mass-buffs for your tokens, sometimes it's harder to deal with X sources dealing 1 damage each, than it is to deal with one big source dealing X damage all at once.

this card is an game finisher in my token deck
this combo very well with wayfaring temple , crusader of odric, or geist-honored monk. effectively doubling their strength
and if you add doubling season or parallel lives and those population dependent creature just rise to a whole new level of ridiculous.
ironically, some of my favorite victory was from death by saproling

A couple days ago i realized how Simic friendly this card is... Seeing as how i've managed to get Zegana up to 20/20+ or even to 30... If i play this... there'll be a shceiss-ton of saprolings for my opponent to deal with!

Works perfectly with primordial hydra and champion of lambholt and works even better with parallel lives.

I run this in my green/black grave engine deck where it's not too hard to get at least a 6/6 or even an 8/8 out (Boneyard Wurm enchanted with a Wreah of Geists or two). So for me, it's a little more reliable than in most other decks. Pretty fun stuff. I just wish it was an instant. Now *that* would be fun.

WOTC needs to make this one MTG player happy and print something similar to this during the current block!

This is a true story:

I was playing a super-janky RUG Elves brew pre-rotation after M14 came out. I was up against an Esper Token/Control deck, and had 2 one-mana Elves, an Elvish Archdruid, and a Master Biomancer on the table.
My opponent, still at 20 life and with a couple Lingering Souls tokens out, tapped out on his turn 5 to play Obzedat, Ghost Council, safely putting him to 22- or so he thought. I could barely contain my glee as he passed the turn. I played Ogre Battledriver as a 6/6, then FUNGAL SPROUTING for 6 1/1's, which each came into play with 3 +1/+1 counter from Biomancer and had +2/+0 and Haste from Battledriver, which made each of them 6/4's and swung in for lethal. It took my opponent a while to grasp what had just happened, and to this day when I play him, he still mentions the Fungal Sprouting game. Probably my proudest moment as a Magic player.
