Gaveleer and Grafted Exoskeleton? Granted, the costs are a little high, so this probably wouldn't happen until T5, when you have much better things to do, but it would make him a handy little 5/3 with trample and infect.

Nice, but get him toughness boosting equipment or he's toast pretty quick, especially with infect around...
Still, for 1 mana, can get very scary.

Turn 1 gaveleer. Turn two gaveleer equipped with infiltrator lens and swinging (with his hammer). If they block they most likely lose a creature, take trample damage AND you draw two cards. If you get thru, its 3 damage, which is not bad. 5/5 for 1 drop goblin with trample lols

Beast, especially in limited. At prerelease I hit my opponent for 7 trampling I believe on turn 3, had him block to of the damage to let me draw two off of the Infiltrator Lens equipped to him. After that it was just downhill for my opponent.

Lol. At prerelease, I hit a guy for 16 on turn 4 with this guy, ending the match. Turn one, him. Turn two, Trigon of Rage Turn three, Darksteel Axe and equip it, attack for 5 if able. Turn four, Panic Spellbomb, use it, activate Trigon of Rage and cast Assault Strobe. That's a 8/1 trample, double strike right there, yes it is. And that's not even the most effective way to do it.

Lightning Greaves 2 (2) Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature has haste and shroud. (It can't be the target of spells or abilities.)
Equip 0 (0: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery. This card enters the battlefield unattached and stays on the battlefield if the creature leaves.)
is a no brainer from mirrodin
as for STANDARD... which scares me a little actually
Sword of Vengeance 3 (3) Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has first strike, vigilance, trample, and haste.
Equip 3 (3: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery.)
Strider Harness 3 (3) Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1 and has haste.
Equip 1
pretty brutal stuff. strider harness allows to setup this play from turn 3, drop the gobby, attach and back him up with any 2 cc. sword of vengance is possible to drop and be ready to roll turn 4. basically, you receive for 4 mana and goblin gaveleer:
5/1, first strike, trample, haste. better than ball lightning for 1 more mana as the play itself and it sticks around. a powerful idea indeed. hope that helps.
there are many other choices in standard alone, but I choose these for added flexibility thanks to the haste, which is what red would want in a creature to begin with, which opens the door to the new 4 damage instant which needs 3 artifacts to become active.
Good idea. this breeds a new archetype for red and artifacts. I really like the recent sets. very well thought out and very complex ideas jammed into simple ideas. The sign of a deep game to come. I'm glad I returned to magic

I really like equipping GG with a Ogre's Cleaver on turn 3...
I love this little guy. He's such a bomb in that he comes out of nowhere with his power; he's easy to underestimate since he's just a 1-drop. And he gets ridiculous fast. Heck, even Bone saw or Shuko turn it into a 4/1 trampler, and that could happen on turn 2. That's not game-breaking, but that's threatening nonetheless.
-Edit- Haha, Test-Subject down there already ninja'd my comment. Oh well. =p
Sounds like a deck Idea to me. Concussive Bolt and Kuldotha Flamefiend should be fantastic finishers, and Panic Spellbomb can make the guy HURT.

Adventurer's Gear - Regularly 5/3. Blinding Powder - 3/1 trampler with self-Fog. General's Kabuto - as above, but with shroud. Gorgon Flail (and any other equipment that allows deathtouch) - Throws the rest of the damage at your opponent (power -1 damage to your enemy). Livewire Lash - Target it with whatever you want (or if your opponent tries removal) and throw damage at something else; with deathtouch, it causes more destruction. Mage Slayer - Double trample? Why not? Mask of Memory - Paired with the Lens, it becomes "Draw 4, discard 1". Neko-Te - Tap a critter down, opponent loses 1 life. Nim Deathmantle - Undying evil. Quietus Spike - Cuts your opponent's time by more than half. Scythe of the Wretched - 5/3 trampler that brings stuff to your side. Spellbinder - Unless your opponent can soak the entire damage, you're machine-gunning with something. Swiftfoot Boots - Haste and hexproof...'nuff said.

Wow. A goblin that gives kor duelist a run for its money for best equip creature. Kor duelist does 6 damage on turn two with two shukos This guy does 7 with the same equipment, and includes trample. I'm not going to say this guy is better than the duelist, I'm telling you to put both in your equipment deck since they stand head and shoulders above the next best: kitesail apprentice.
Don't bother giving this guy first strike. There are no efficient equipment that do it. Just power him up, crash through for obscene damage, and attack with a different creature next turn. You don't get to obscene damage by waiting around to cast and equip fireshrieker. You get there with the efficient stuff like bonesplitter, O-naginata and Cranial Plating. I've won many games that way. And win or lose they are fun games to play.
Also, hilarious with Mycosynth Lattice and Bludgeon Brawl, then slap every land you have onto him for free for the +2/+0 boost from each. A goblin wielding a hammer made of dozens of mountains, forests, islands, plains, swamps and buildings? Truly compared to MTG, Dragonball Z is for wimps.

After using Mask of Avacyn and Darksteel Plate to protect him, as well as giving a +4/+0 boost, you can then begin pumping him with other equipment goodies like Darksteel Axe, Silver-Inlaid Dagger , Sharpened Pitchfork , etc. The skies the limit with this guy, and decks can be built around him.

He works surprisingly well in Warrior decks too, given that the Obsidian Battle-Axe suddenly makes him a 5/2 with Trample and Haste. Heck, those decks pack more than one as well, so it often means he's a late game stomper too.

That art! Love this and the SoM Goblin token X>) . This should be fun with Inquisitor's Flail 3/1 Trampling creature that deals double damage and receives double damage. Turn 1 Mountain, Goblin Gaveleer
Turn 2 Forest, Bonesplitter, equip, attack for five
Turn 3 Forest, Assault Strobe on the gaveleer, attack. If they use removal, respond with a kicked Vines of Vastwood. If they don't use removal, use a kicked Vines of Vastwood anyway. Attack for eighteen.

Goblin Gavaleer may not play well with the typical goblin crowd, but he more than makes up for it by being a one mana creature with built in trample, an innate ability to grow and stay relevant at any point in a match as long as equipment is available, and allows for some fun times when his partner in crime Goblin Tunneler and some cheap equipment are floating around.
This is one of the most elegant designs red has at common. Not only does it act as a build around card that gives red another deck to tinker with, it also manages to be an amazingly powerful common without breaking the game.
One of the best goblins out there, and that's saying something :D
