I like Double Cleave more because it's hybrid and instant. This is still good, though.

This would be way awesome as an instant.

Funny in EDH with any of the legendary tri-color dragons, and in general just fun with an "When ~ deals combat damage" ability. Cross-set synergy with Thrummingbird, while a stretch, is cute.

I <3 double strike. This card has the potential to be the cause of many lucky, early game wins in conjunction with infect.

having it be a sorcery hurts it a bit, but still, you definitely can't underestimate the power of double strike for R. i definitely look forward to using this--probably not in RDW, but in something.

Having this as an Instant speed would probably make it better than Giant growth. Especially with Poison in the set. Still a solid, solid card. Well designed and easily playable. Obviously not as good as the instant speed Double Cleave but solid none-the-less

It acts basically as a huge burn spell, with conditions such as: - you need a creature in play without summoning sickness that is worth casting this on - your opponent doesn't have any blockers - your opponent doesn'T have any removal
Sure, with infect creatures or EDH/Commander generals, th is can result in a rather quick match. But often this also ends up as a useless card in your hand, or even card advantage for your opponent. "I strobe my fat creatures. And, oh, you killed it... hm... I use my other assault on my other creature and attack. You block? Oh... I guess I just lost four cards".

Too bad we lost Ball Lightning in T2. But it can do some sick damage with the infect creatures, I think it might be awesome with the green haste guy with infect.

For those who didn't notice, this card's flavor text pays homage to what is widely considered some of the greatest flavor text ever printed (Hex).
If only this card were half as cool/good as Hex :(

How could this only be a 3.9???? This is Berserk in ! You lose the trample, but in return you don't have to sacrifice the creature at the end of the turn. Show some love!

I have played this card in a RDW deck.
Turn 1 - land, Goblin Guide Damage 2+ Turn 2 - land, Kiln Fiend, Attack Goblin Guide Turn 3 - land, Ligting Bolt in opponent creature, in main phase Assualt Strobe then Kiln Fiend get 3+, attack with Kiln Fiend, now it is 7/2 with double strike, 14 damage. Turn 4 - Goblin or Kien with an another instant, sorcery with burn. Game Over.

people talking about using this with Distortion Strike but you really dont need to, this splits your deck red blue.
with pure red, here is the perfect circumstances (entirely possible)
Very interesting to compare to double cleave. Do you want an aggressively costed swing? Or do you want a nifty combat trick?

I really don't like this card... I drafted two because I thought it was an instant, I tried to play them as instants two or three times but my opponent's kept catching me...
At sorcery speed it just mandates a chump block, and you can't use it on defense. It's really only good if you know that the creature is going to make it through, because you've nuked their blockers or your critter has some kind of evasion. Not NEARLY as good as Berserk or Double Cleave and really I'd rather have a Giant Growth most of the time. This isn't a "combat trick"; your opponent sees it coming and you can't bluff with it.

Hmm. It's either this or Kuldotha Rebirth for my favorite red common from Scars. They are both great cards for 1cmc, one gives you three creatures, one gives your threat double strike. Granted, The problem with this card is you have to be smart casting it or else they'll just chump block it. I would recommend Panic Spellbomb or Goblin Shortcutter. This card takes prediction, but if you do it right, you'll deal a nice chunk of damage for just a small ammount of mana.

This card, in conjunction with Groundswell and Blight Mamba, has the potential for a turn two win. This is a beast of a common.

Are tired of trying to cast cards as an instant when its not? Want to cast a creature card whenever you want? Sorcery spells that could save you or change the game completely if you could just cast it when you need to? Well I have the answer for you! Leyline of Anticipation. You may cast nonland cards as though they had flash. One of my all time favourite cards.

Combo with Ball Lightning and watch your opponent's life get owned! There is no need for this to be played at instant speed when combined with any 1 turn elemental (Hellspark, Sparkelemental Hell's thunder, etc)

One time, turn 5, my little bro could have used Koth of the Hammer's second ability, used 9 for a kicked Elemental Appeal, then used this for 28 hasty trampling damage. It woulda been epic. Sadly, he didn't notice it, and still beat me (I was using my singleton crapp/silly deck with Omen Machine)
sure, it's not quite as versatile as double cleave, but this is far more efficient at getting the job done.

I will be trying this in my T2 R/U Tempo. It seems to do well with Runechanter's Pike and any evasive creature so far. Also, Stromkirk Noble loves this being used on him on T2.
At first I looked at this card and thought 'Wow that's amazing' then I realised it was a sorcery which is a painful loss. Even so, it's still pretty good.

what ugotpauld said Also another 3 turn combination, although a bit more risky
Turn one mountain Turn two mountain, Immolating Souleater Turn three mountain, pay 14 life and 2 red mountains (+9/+0), and then assault strobe. Swing for 20
assuming they don't have any creatures of course :P but if you made a pure red deck, why not have both kiln fiend AND immolating soul eater?
