Underrated. In the right situation, this is no less than brutal.

Yeah, this is underrated, it can make really turn your big creatures into killers instead of being stopped by 0/1 Eldrazi tokens.

Looks like it could add insult to injury when equipping Hellspark Elementals, Ball Lightnings, and the like.

I don't suppose this works as well with Loxodon Punisher as I'd hope? He'd need an equipment on him first, in other words...right?

@Crosserenti - Or some other buff, like Honor of the Pure or Crusade.

I like using it in my rakka mar EDH to turn my elementals into ball lightnings.

This is the single most important piece in my equipment decks, and responsible for many victories. Yet none of the creatures in the deck can wear it until they are holding something else. All it takes is a Shuko or a Bonesplitter and this guy is in business.
A Kor Duelist wearing a bonesplitter and this comes in for 12 trample damage on turn three. The Shuko is enough for everyone in the deck except the Duelist since he is one of the few equipment guys who doesn't give a power boost.
The restriction excites me because they would not have printed it this cheaply without it.

This also does a lot for artifact decks that include Darksteel Sentinel, Steel Hellkite or Darksteel Juggernaut.

Neat card, but Rancor makes it look useless

Rakka Mar actually prefers Grafted Wargear the difference between 0 and 2 in the equip cost gets really really big when you intend to not only activate Rakka Mar, but cast other spells too.

Shouldn't that be "a creature with power 3 or greater"?

It's not quite Rancor, but in non-green it will do just fine.

"Here take this Bonesplitter... actually wait, changed my mind. Take this and give me that axe back."

What do you mean, Rancor makes it useless? Even with trample redundancy, it stacks with Rancor frighteningly well.

@GrimjawxRULES: Yeah you sure can attach it to bushido creatures... then it falls off at end of turn when their bushido bonus goes away, so there's not much of a point.

I'm not sure if I should feel bad about throwing this on flipped Delvers...

@steev- don't forget that O-Naginata gives +3/+0, so it will be hard for this to fall off since it gives the requisite boost to keep it attached. Also, I love this card, such a nice equipment.

Interesting design. For an effect that powerful it's very cheap, but in the early game, where the discount is most beneficial, your creatures may be unable to equip it. What you really want to pair this with is a cheap creature with first strike or good toughness to start the beat train early and keep it rolling.
Kalonian Tusker, Watchwolf (and variants), Vexing Devil (assuming it sticks), Sangrophage and Varchild's War-Riders are all good candidates to wield O-Naginata.

I'm always happy to draw this when I have a creature equipped with Cranial Plating, no more chump blocks stopping my 15/2 from wrecking my opponent!
