He looks like a fat larper or Ren Fair guy named "Dutch."

I like it. Not as good as good as Ashmouth Hound, but it's a one-drop human that will work in my Red/White human deck.

I pulled a full playset of him at prerelease. It isn't even the best 1-drop common creature in the set (I'd give Wingcrafter the nod), but it's nicely aggro. Opponents will often decide taking the one damage is preferable to losing a 1-toughness creature or trading with a 2-toughness creature. And it pair wonderfully with Nightshade Peddler.

T1: This guy. T2: Nightshade Peddler. T3: Lure.
Let the shenanigans begin.

decent if soulbonded with nightshade peddler, but weak overall. Still, in limited, a 1/1 with ANY kind of a ability can be critical.
Dude needs to lay off the junk food, btw.

There's something familiar about this card that I can't quite put my finger on. Oh yeah! It's a strictly worse version of Karplusan Wolverine! I know we all love tribal synergies but I can't see that as an excuse to play this over the Wolverine.
@Eternal_Blue Not strictly worse than Karplusan Wolverine. His can trigger multiple times; so it's a sort of Rampaging Firstest/Double Strike, rather than a Bushido Firstest/Double Strike.

Gotta respect firstest strike for one mana.

While its ability isn't any good, Somberwald Vigilante has more potential than you might think; Avacyn Restored gave us a not-insignificant splash of Red Human tribal (most notably Kessig Malcontents, Thatcher Revolt, and Vigilante Justice), making a cheap Red Human one-drop like this very useful in the right kind of deck.
This is a solid card as is. This new generation of MTG players are so spoiled.

I can't take John Goodman seriously. Every time I play him, I don't see some resentful person who's taking matters into his own hands. I see some scout or the town drunk, stumbling into town or something.

Even more likely though it would have been "Summon Vigilantes" now that i think about it,
since the card's name and creature type were mostly or in some cases simply just completely identical,
and because those people from someplace totally loved to come in groups :P

Giving him First Strike would've been dangerous, considering all of the overall creature love in Avancyn Restored (Banners Raised, Goldnight Commander, Cathars' Crusade, etc.).
Therefore, the Vigilante is hardly playable in late-game situations. Perhaps the least EDH-worthy card in the Avacyn Restored set.
Rectification:
ashmouths takes him as a pet.
