aside from legality, unless you're using cards like Dark Confidant, Shuko will be preferable to this card in most cases since you'll pay the equip cost more often than the mana cost.
although i like the artwork from this one more. ;)

Better for storm count, though! And you can transmute it from a Tolaria West. I put them on my ornithopters and swing in for the kill.

Its a sword with teeth jutting out of it; you think that it would grant more than a measly +1/+0.

My question is, why are there so few common equipments these days? There have been only three since Ravnica came out. (Planechase not included)

Strictly worse than Spider-Man.

Maybe it'll see play when Zendikar comes around.
Armament Master comes into mind...

Not that bad...remember that it can find use in Esper decks. Master of Etherium, Master Transmuter, Esperzoa ...

Bone Saw is ready!

This card does have some applications. It works especially well for cards that get bonus or +1/+1 counters when equipped because it is so cheap.

On another note my friend and I opened a holo bone saw at a two headed giant draft and thought it was hilarious. Of course we ended up with it at the end....

Pretty nice opening combined with Kor Duelist
1st turn: Kor Duelist, Bone Saw;
2nd turn: equip, swing for 4 or, if blocked, annihilate every blocker assigned.

This is what happens when the people who make magic cards get bored...

So I played this card and it said, "Hey! You're going NO-WHERE!! I gotcha for THREE MINUTES!! Three minutes of PLAY-TIME!!"

I use this in my artifact deck......Master transmuter's ability of bouncing makes this easy to get out sluggers by taking the saw back and just laying it back down in their face but with a darksteel collosus. it's an elvish piper for artifacts..... almost.

Oh look, a not-nearly-broken version of Shuko. Nice.

And why so few common equipment? I think wizards is being very cautious of making crazy good equipment in limited formats, like Bonesplitter. In their revisit through Scars of Mirrodin, they are taking another stab at larger amounts of equipment at common, and doing a fine job at it, as far as I can tell in my experience drafting it.

I prefer the Ubersaw.

Though Shuko is generally better, this does have its purposes. Zero cost can mean amazing first turn plays - like for Kuldotha Rebirth decks.

Has serious potential in an old-school Mirrodin affinity deck.

i feel like it would find more play if the equip cost were {0}. Rather, the price of +1/+0 would be taking up a card slot in your deck.

Please tell me I am not the only one who ended up hearing Don LaFontaine's voice in my head when I read it the flavor text.

As of today, still strictly worse than both the Amputator and the Solemn Vow.
But I still agree with Villainous, most people will prefer the Ubersaw in all situations.
Vita-Saw is just a wtf weapon.

Consider that this can give you a 2/1 Memnite or a 1/2 Ornithopter on turn 1.
