I think this card is all right; I still like Kor Duelist more though. what I wish for this card is that it either focused more on offense or defense instead of trying is accomplish both. for example, I'd might run this guy instead of Kor Duelist if instead of lifelink it was +1/+1, like the old time cat soldiers. A 3/3 first striker is a lot more frightening than a 2/2 first strike lifelinker. a much closer comparison should be Leonin Den-Guard, an all round solid card. if this guy had vigilance instead of lifelink, or to a lesser degree instead of first strike, I'd be loving this card. though truthfully, the only reason I wont run this guy is because half of him is redundant with Basilisk Collar. a 3.5/5

This plus Barbed Battlegear was the basis of a rather strong pre-release early game. Draft it before your opponents swipe it! Fits the curve for a quick start, gets a bit silly mid-game with some nice equipment.

This card's possibilities in block or standard are thoroughly limited by the absence of any of the kind of Equip-Matters technology we had in the original Mirrodin. We need Steelshaper's Gift, Auriok Windwalker, and so forth - and it would have been nice to have a few in a second color too, like Vulshok Battlemaster who was red's only stake in this area last time. I don't like it when the colors are straight-jacketed in what they can do.

Knight of Meadowgrain is better if you aren't playing standard for mono-white. But this is a pretty nice alternative, and a flavorful one at that.
I remember a standard game awhile back with this kitty. She had a Celestial Mantle on, and then I put a whispersilk cloak on her and got to about 500 life.

At a scars sealed event, I went up against an opponent that had a myr galvanizer imprinted on prototype portal. All I had was this little shikari, equipped with accorder's shield and barbed battlegear against an army of myr lords... I won... and I will never forget that one of the greatest games I've ever played was won on the back of this card
