This card seems to expensive and much too risky for any practical use. While it will put a damper on what your opponents play, it hurts you in that same fashion, as you don't want to put yourself in harms way with your own spells. And besides, if you get far enough in to play this, you're gonna want to drop your bombs to win, not to have them mirrored back on you. The only use I could possibly see for this would be in a creature based blue deck with little in the line of spells, and that notion just makes me laugh at the ridiculousness of it.

This card would do excellent in combo with certain other cards, and make it so that it only benefits you.

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
Eye of the storm
Reiterate/Mirari
Djinn illuminatus

Along with cards that have things like replicate and storm. (maybe flashback)

This way, you get everyone's spells, you get to replicate them, and the only time anyone else can benefit from any of these is during their main phases. Then, you can most likely whip out something to prevent that too.

I found a great way to utilize this card for instant win. It's quite simple, really. Right after playing the spell, simply play one of the many pacts, and the opponent will copy it, EVERYTHING, so on that upkeep, if the pact is in a color that that particular player's color's isn't he can't pay the cost and will lose. Does that work?

use this correctly and its insanely powerful and i do mean stupidly powerful. if you just want a fun time put it in a red/blue blasty deck start a big multiplayer and watch the fun fly nothing quite like 8 people doing shock spells.

but if you want to use it for power put in mana cost X cards, the copies always count as having zero mana paid as X meaning whilst you get a nice fireball or whatever, they get diddly squat and if the try to counter it you can counter their counter with their own spell.

or just use cards that effect everyone megrim + one with nothing means for 1 black everyone discards their hand.

however i doubt the stuff you said graklinghunter will work, as you never cast them you can't pay extra to replicate them, as they are copies they don't count for storming purposes. and teferi ain't stopping shit, they would still get the copies, as teferi just makes it so they can only cast spells when they could a sorcery it doesn't stop them recieving a copy of a spell from an ongoing trigger ability and if you reiterated their spell, they could reiterate it as well.

in essence the point of this card is to balance just about everything, giant growth on my attacking creature means giant growth your blocker. you shock me, i shock you. and if all else fails its a huge 'bullet magnet' normally i play this and suddenly everyone is trying to kill it.

This was the first M10 rare I pulled… I couldn’t decide whether to be happy or disappointed. There’s definitely a lot of potential for craziness, and the art is wicked, but I can’t see myself ever playing this card.

If this copies an X spell, the value of X IS copied, similar to wild ricochet or mirari. Cruel Ultimatum would be insanely stupid to use with this. This could be used in a duel as a shield against countermagic, since you can just point every counterspell your opponent casts back at itself.

Ok, This card is amazing in EDH.

I have gotten turn seven kills with this easily.

If you can accelerate, (Playing 5 color, I play reaper king), On turn six cast Conflux, grab Summoner's Pact, Intervention Pact, Titan's Pact, Slaughter Pact, and your Hive Mind. Turn seven cast your hive mind and your set of pacts. Theres no way even a 5 color deck can pay the 15 mana required for the four pacts, and because your upkeep was the last in the cycle, you win.

Also, you can cast Final Fortune with Hive Mind on the board, and since your's was first on the stack, it is the last to resolve, meaning you are the last one to get an extra turn, thus winning you the game.

And then there are also the fun things you could do with the cards already mentioned, noteably Mirari. You can make an extra copy for yourself after the Hive Mind copies hit the stack.

In all I think this could definately be a easily taken advantage of card in a casual or EDH format, but it is no where near standard caliber.

P.S. Using this card with things like Death Wish is also really fun! Massive life loss!

I have an interesting idea: Play Guile, than this, than when you play an instant or sorcery, play "Double Negative" on your enemy's duplicates (Nucklavee can bring back the double-negative so you can play it over again) and their Double-negative. In multiplayer, you'd probably be able to shoot down all the other double negatives because of Guile.
Would that work?

Not the best card. Of course there are some uses - Pact cards preferable, yet using this along with creatures who have activated abilities that can counter the your opponent's copied spell, such as Patron Wizard might be fun as well.

Question about Hive Mind:
If an opponent casts Creeping Mold to destroy my Hive Mind do I get to copy and choose a target before the enchantment goes to the graveyard?
Vinifera7
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Graklinghunter:
Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir will not stop your opponents from copying spells with Hive Mind. Teferi's ability reads, "Each opponent can cast spells only any time he or she could cast a sorcery." That doesn't have any bearing on copies of spells, since copies are not cast, they are simply put onto the stack.

@J-Ryda:
When your opponent casts Creeping Mold while Hive Mind is on the battlefield, it goes on the stack, then a copy of it that you control goes on the stack. Yours resolves first, then his. So yes, you still get the copy.

I think the most effective use of this card may be with Underworld Dreams and Prosperity for vintage.
Just use simple math to determine how much to spend on X.

X > H/P

H = highest hitpoints among opponents
P = total number of players

When not playing in vintage, Prosperity can be substituted for similar cards like Mind Spring, Tidings, or Flow of Ideas.

I could see using these with fun cards and Swerve. That would just be awesome to see. I also see this card as more of a problem for your opponent than yourself actually. I mean, it will definitely stop your opponent from playing Lavalanche on you. If it had a lower casting cost I bet it would see more play in standard.

Only good in large multiplayer games. Most fun I've had with this is slap down a Flame-Rift right after I played this in a 5 player game. From what I understand, a good card to use this with is Arc Blade for some multiplayer chaos. After this is out you cast it, everyone copies it and then suspends a copy. 3 turns later it triggers, everyone copies it and then suspends another copy. Making a large amount of suspended copies to keep track of.

Actually, Amsjex, you're wrong. Here's the ruling:

10/1/2009 If the spell that's copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast (like Earthquake does), the copy has the same value of X.

That being said, cards like machinate are still useful to you but not to them (or at least not AS useful to them).

Also amusing in multiplayer, and practical for you if your deck is all permanents and cards like machinate.

I have tons of fun with this card in multiplayer games. Spells like Flamebreak and Delirium Skeins are fun to use, or spells like Second Sight to create confusion and interesting outcomes. This is really more of a lulz card than a strategic card, for casual players that just want to have fun. Yeah there are some combos with the pact cards that make for easy wins but whats the fun in that? Overall fun card to play with, not much else you can say about it though, and it is a tad expensive, so I give it a 3/5

The Final Fortune combo would not work. Like you said, your own copy would resolve last. Since Final Fortune says to take a turn after this one, the last one to resolve inserts a turn before whichever ones already resolved, so it would go like this:

Opponent's resolves:
Current Turn (yours)
Opponents extra turn (just inserted)
Opponents regular Turn

Yours resolves:
Current turn (yours)
Your extra turn (just inserted)
Opponent's extra turn
Opponent's regular turn

am I understanding this card correctly in that _EVERY_ player gets a chance to benefit from this card being played? This card

4-Player game

Alright guys, on my my turn, every time it rolls around, we play 16 subgames. Oh and also I am running 4 Burning Wishes to pull the other shahrazads that I own that aren't in my library. Did you know that under new M10 rulings if I use a wish in a subgame, it actually gets shuffled back in my deck when the subgame ends? Oh the fun times we'll have! We are going to be playing this one match for HOURS. Unless you all want to just pay half your life every time?

Or yes, I suppose you could punch me in the face. Pretty certain you broke my nose. The pain is tremendous. I think I need to go to the hospital- the bleeding won't stop.

Oh well, you know what they say, pain is temporary- MINIGAMES ARE ETERNAL!

This is one of my favorite blue cards period. I built a blue/black deck around it where all of my creatures are either black, or blue shroud (neurok commandos). Also threw in an Underworld Dreams and Time Reversal, just for an instant win out of left field when playing 3+ person games.

this is actually the center of a quite powerful legacy combo deck.

essentially, it plays heavy control until it draws hive mind and one of: pact of the titan, pact of negation, slaughter pact.

this forces your opponent to copy it, and (if it works) to lose the next turn.

@Norrinthewary - you need to play with some better "friends". What you did would be confusing as heck but wouldn't work in your favor - you'd be first on the stack with all that so your copies would be the last to resolve. You'd end up giving all the other people 3 turns in a row (because you know they'd just target themselves for extra turns) so it would be 15 turns before you got to go again, and by that point you'd be done anyway. If they'd rather force you to not play because they're too dumb to work out that you gave them all a huge advantage, then it's probably time to play with a different set of people.

Everyone discussing how this added with Final Fortune is an instant win, the ruling on Final Fortune is that if multiple turns are created, they are carried out in reverse order that the responsible spells resolve. Since your copy (or rather original) is the last to resolve, you take your extra turn first, and therefor lose of you don't manage to win in that turn. The only way it would work out is if you, as someone suggested, counter your own spell with Cursecatcher.
Regardless, this is a really fun card.

Also, cracked up at the 16 sub games. Can't imagine who would really be willing to play them. (Since the half damage is rounded up, it'd be a loss to forfeit the sub games.)

allmighty_albacus: that is the only 'right' way to use this card in EDH :3

Everyone saying "use Pacts", you had BETTER be talking about Legacy, because winning like that is just pooping on everyone when it's EDH :P At least everyone can talk about the awesome stories they have with Subgame Guy:

"Dude did you see what we did? I didn't know backs could bend like that!"

"What a great day to be wearing steel-toed boots!' :D

"Man, I think like, he might DIE."

"Best time I've ever had not having fun, EVER!" xD

But against Pact Guy, it's just:

Your offense is enough to make everyone sad, but not enough to justify the necessary anger to at least provoke proper revenge out of us. The Legacy crowd plays this combo, and it doesn't carry much social stigma there, so they de facto promote it by not censuring it. They legitimize your crime. You just kind of win, and we just kind of have to take it. It's a bit like you shot a rabbit or a bird. Oh, it's dead now. :( But it was a rabbit/bird, not a puppy/kitten, so we can't even shoot you back. :/

Fun fact: Cards that give you an extra combat phase (such as Relentless Assault) produce additional phases for the current turn. The rulings say that if it's not a main phase when the spell is cast, there's no effect. However! If it's someone ELSE'S main phase, THEY get an additional combat phase. The upshot of this is that Hive Mind with these cards means you get a bonus combat phase for each opponent.
