Err... what is this crazy thingy and why would I ever consider putting it in a deck?

Its definitely a great card for those Megrim-Kederekt Parasite-Howling Mine type decks. Not entirely sure on the flavor here though: if he's so obsessed with burning stuff then why did he own a bunch of scrolls and a lab in the first place?

I believe the flavor is something along the lines of instilling everyone with a feverish lust for knowledge that is likely to hurt them in the rush (like cramming for a test). Anyway, it's inspired me to finally make a draw-pain deck. This card is a crucial part of any Megrim or Underworld dreams combo to me.
The "burning" mentioned in the flavor text is not meant literally.

I'm surprised this is a common. It's way too dangerous for that.
Yes... yes... for those of us who realize the gravity of megrim, it is very refreshing.
This reminds me of how frequently people say "winds of changeis a dumb card;" but then when you play it they end up with hands that don't play out very well- if at all. This will certainly have that affect, even without graveyard, dicard, draw, mill etc. for synergy.

Burn everything, even decks... hahaha... paired with Megrim and its lethal...

very solid card for red/black decks. Especially against control players, you can really mess up their counters, combos, etc. with the random discard. In my opinion, this will hurt the average red player a lot less than blue or white. As has been said, great with megrim, also helps by throwing more into the graveyard for late game uses of haunting echoes, for the truly devious R/B player =P. 4/5

as a turn one way to fill the graveyard, this has combo potential with threshold and delve and reanimator strategies ala Careful Study. Playing this late game when you are holding only lands and/or less impactful cards lets you also gamble on trading up. Seems like grease in a deck designed with graveyard shenanigans in mind for sure.

Not a huge fan. While obviously a Johnny card, at common its a pretty poor card and while you'll mess up both player's hands, you're just as likely to mess up your own as your foes. The only real advantage is that it can act as a sort of pseudo-mulligan which can make your opponent's hand worse.
While it can be combined with other cards, its really not worth it due to the card disadvantage.

Fun, but nothing in the terms of game winning advantage. Certainly not bad for 1. Don't forget about Underworld Dreams.

The flavor text just makes me think of Chris Farley on SNL doing the motivational speaker sketch, LOL.
Has some great synergy with Chandra Ablaze and Pyromancer Ascension.

You people who keep hating on this card...really? Ok yeah it fucks up your hand...it also deals 16 damage off a two spell combo if you have just one Megrim, one Underworld Dreams, and they start out with 4 cards in their hand. Pop off the Inq and it deals them 3 right off the bat from the Dreams...then in response to the drawing of the three cards, you can Runeflare Trap them and if they had, say 4 cards in hand prior to the Burning Inq draw, thats 7 more dmg...so 10 so far...then the 2nd half of the spell resolves and Megrim deals them another 6. Ok so 16 damage isnt worth losing three cards out of your deck that you're going to draw another one of soon if you're smart and have four copies of your cards like you should? Thought so. Go out and build a Megrim-Dreams-Burning Inq-Runeflare Trap deck. It's sick nasty.
I've only got one so it doesn't happen much but Wheel of Sun and Moon also works really well with that combo.
And...That kinda makes it pay for it's "card disadvantage".

this is an awsome first turn drop when your opponent looks like he has his best hand ever, plus with runeflare trap and megrim you can do lots of damge for 1-2 red mana...red/black eat your heart out

And yet again the Eldrazi titans' final abilities override everything. Now this card just became much more likely to backfire as your opponent discards the Eldrazi in his/her hand and gets his/her graveyard back, or much more useful as you do the same for your own graveyard.

Disruption à la Winds of Change, with graveyard/madness love to boot. I like it at common.
@Bignoyze You can't respond to the drawing of cards. You don't get priority during spell resolution. The only way you'll get to use Runeflare Trap is if you don't randomly discard it.

Yeah, this and Library of Leng are best buds. This card is also great for any sort of draw/discard punishment. Megrim is the obvious first choice. Personally, I think that Underworld Dreams is too expensive in a multicolor environment. I like to have Kederekt Parasite and Shocker on the field during the first couple of turns. If I weren't running on a budget, I'd throw in a Chains of Mephistopheles to ruin everyone's day.
What's not to like about this card at 1 mana? It can even get you out of a rut if you end up mana-screwed with one mountain.

liliana's caress + megrim + this = 12 dmg on turn 4? with 3 mana left for whatever it is that you need to prepare yourself for turn 5 win.

Instrumental in my type 2 deck. Drop multiple Megrims/Liliana's caress, then punish them with 12-24 damage with this card.
fits the chaos of red's color pie, but still, so undercosted and powerful. i HAVE to give it a 4/5

Sangrophage + 4x Liliana's caress + an active Bloodchief Ascension on the field, then I played Burning Inquiry.
My computer lit-up like a slot machine with stackable triggers. :)
Another game. Turn five Down to one life, Opponent at 18 life.
I have 2x Howling Mine in play, 1x Liliana's Caress.
Opponent says "GG".
I draw 2x Lilliana's Caress and the 5th mana I need. Cast the 2x Caress's, and play the land and then final card in my hand, Burning Inquiry.
My turn to say "GG".

Definitely one of the better, if not funnier, discard cards.
I almost always tutor for this card with Liliana when I have her caress out late game. GG indeed. Should be a finisher by that time in R/B. May your mind burn up faster than Jariad's Laboratory
This card looks like fun when combined with Dream Salvage. Your adversary will be down three random cards and you will be able to filter your deck a little more. Rated 5 out of 5, just because it is as chaotic as red should be. Love it. =)

Thank you TheWrathofShane! Putting this in my Niv-Mizzet EDH with Plagiarize. In a 5-person game I draw 15 cards, discard 3, and deal 15 damage however I want. For {3}{U}{R}. I accept that offer.

Waste Not (card coming in M15)
Probably the best use of this card yet.

Just to clarify for people, waste not will be a {1}{B} enchantment that gives you an effect when an opponent discards a card. Creature: get a 2/2 zombie Land: add {B}{B} to your mana pool Non-creature non-land: draw a card
The combo with this will be pretty dumb, potentially giving you access to 8 mana turn 3 (not likely, but possible, and the other effects are pretty good too). Unfortunately it only works for opponents, not yourself. Multiplayer will still be insane though.

My favorite card in my standard red/black discard deck. You're going to counter my 11-damage blightning? Then take 12 from my one-cost burning inquiry. Better target for a reverberate, too, in that your opponent doesn't need to have cards in hand for it to work.
