This is why I love Blue. I couldn't care less if the cards were actually the best in the game. I just want insulting flavor text I can quote in-game :)
The perfect way to Troll a Fact or Fiction! Oh so sad that particular spell does not target :P

Cool good reprint, but the flavor text doesn't seem to fit really because exactly Garruk isn't a mage who cast spells often which can be redirected, he almost only create creatures or help the land. Maybe another Planeswalker could take Garruk's role in the flavor text, if the card will be reprinted again? Best, a Planeswalker who uses fire magic (for example Chandra) to avoid a new picture, i like this ;-)

Actually better than Counterspell except for non-targeting spells. Instead of negating an opponent's spell, you get to use it.

Did anyone else get an M12 version of this in an M13 pack (mine was during the prerelease...no lie)

One of the best reprints in M13 and blue-controls, in my opinion. Especially because it is possible to choose any number of targets. There are numerous combos possible.

This spell almost always throws your opponents for a loop because it is almost always unexpected.
Gideon: Oh dude, you definitely wrote this one. Question: Jace is ***. Why Garruk hate? Garruk: I don't think I wrote that. Gideon: I don't think I wrote that--WHO ELSE WOULD HAVE WRITTEN IT? Garruk: Pass. Gideon: ...Alright...chance to steal Jace: Because Jace is a bastard-man! Garruk: I definitely wrote that!

Can this card change the target of an attacking creature? My friend insists that it can, but I'm not sure.

Can you redirect a spell to you if it says "Target Opponent"? Like Stolen Goods for example. Turn 3 Omniscience? Yes please!
adrian.malacoda
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@I.Q: The new target must be a valid target for the spell. If you cast Stolen Goods, you can't make it target yourself (it says target opponent) and you can't redirect it to yourself (since it still must target an opponent). If your opponent casts Stolen Goods you cannot redirect it to them. In either case, if it's multiplayer, you ARE allowed to redirect it to another opponent.

@Northprophet: Your friend is wrong. A creature attacking does not count as a spell therefore it cannot be redirected.

I'm 90% sure this won't work on cards with "Each Opponent" as the target(s). I can't find any input on this. Could someone shed some light on this for me? I'm guessing since you don't take control of the spell or anything the player casting it can't be the target if it says opponents.

dont get me wrong i love this card(it counters counterflux by the way) but it has a relatively high rating considering, no one uses it. it is either underestimated or overrated.

Let's just look at it this way: This card AUTOMATICALLY is better than Dispel AND Outwit because it fulfills both functions. That, in Standard, is pretty strong. 4/5

I'm really hoping that this is going to be reprinted in M14. It's the fun counterspell, I prefer this so much to just denying/permission, and I like that it doesn't force you to target any particular type of spell (you can even cast it targeting a creature spell to activate Guttersnipe/Talrand/Nivix Cyclops/Fluxcharger etc.) since that gives it a nice place in my spellslinger Izzet deck.

I'm confused. The card is obviously blue, but, judging by the flavor text, it's a burn spell.
My all time favorite mono blue spell. Every time you play it you can do something useful, sometimes you can play it do something completely hilarious. Fun things I've redirected: Heroes' Reunion (I'll go ahead and take that life, thanks), Increasing Savagery from flashback (I think I know a better creature to put 10 +1/+1 counters on... one of mine!), Burn at the Stake (No, how about YOU lose the game), etc., etc. Too fun!

This card is under rated... . It's a counterspell for 2 cmc.. Plus it recasts their own spell for you.. This is under costed.. Should be 3cmc..
Compare this to twincast... If your opponent is casting a damage or removal spell, which of these would you rather be holding? No idea how people rate cards on here or why....
Run 2 - 4 of these in most of my blue decks. Very blue card to the core.

Functionally, it counters counterspells (which in itself is pretty cool), and more often than not, target-spells will be fun to redirect to cause mayhem. Looking at you Oblivion Ring ...
On the negatives, if it doesn't target, then its just a card with funny flavor text.
But considering the potential to steal enchantments and spells? Certain life-gain cards? Rancor ? Or your Murder ? Nice burn spell, think I'll take it...
Blue playing spells that STEAL the opponent's strategy is as frightening as it gets.
Update: This stole a Congregate from me. Considering there was a Selesnya and Zombie deck both playing in a group game...Lets just say, stealing 100+ life for 2 mana is pretty hilarious.

*GRUMBLE GRUMBLE* All you young whippersnappers with your Redirects! Why when I was your age we paid 4 CMC and could only change the target of target spell with a SINGLE target, and we liked it! Every now and then we might have been able to discard a blue card from our hand from the game as alternate cost to do the same thing with a different card, but only if we were really good. You kids don't know how good ya got it! *GRUMBLE GRUMBLE*

This card seems amazing at first, and it is when it works. Once I started playing it, I realized that it has some serious limitations. It can't stop Essence Scatter under most circumstances, nor can it stop spells when there are no other legal targets, which happens a lot against artifact and enchantment removal spells, nor abilities like Oblivion Ring.
On the plus side you can 2 for 1 your opponent, steal an aura, target their hexproof creature.
It can be very satisfying to use, and if you opponent complains, tell them they just got taste of their own medicine.

Often a 2-for-1 when used on a removal spell, and can fight counterspell wars. Also can answer uncounterable removal spells like Abrupt Decay and Combust. As a bonus, it even gets around hexproof when used on an opponent's removal spell. Highly underrated card.
Can this be used to redirect the effects of a creature card like Terastodon?

Once long ago, my friend counterspelled my Commander and I cast redirect, redirecting the counter to redirect. We still aren't sure whether this was a correct play, but the entire semantics of the situation that arose were well worth the headache that came after.
