I'm very interested to see how this ends up playing out once the Eldrazi rotate out and Innistrad rotates in. The biggest problem with mill is that it usually doesn't affect the board at all, but if M12 and the little tidbits we've gotten about the next block are any indication, milling yourself to get the right pieces in play could likely be followed up by milling your opponent to death.
Obviously, it's way too early to tell, but there's some potential there.

Drop this, followed by NewJace's ultimate, followed by popping Jace's Archivist's ability. Really, a very cheap and fairly reasonable (not to mention 100% when it goes off) win condition for a mill deck.

I love milling, but not really the uninteresting milling like Traumatize. This is much more subtle (and interesting) way of milling. It combos very nicely with many blue (and not just blue) spells. At worst, it just neglects the self-milling issues with any repeatable drawing engine... or draw X effects. Just nice.

Surrprisingly good card in limited, I've managed a couple of wins in drafts with it now. I don't know if it has the legs for constructed, but it does seem to hit the cards the guy really wants, lol. Combined with draw effects like Consecrated Sphinx, it gets ridiculous.

My only problem with this card is that at my local store, everyone calls it "Jace's Eraser" on accident.
Otherwise, it's a decent card, not game-breaking, but certainly not terrible.

I'm curious how, exactly, "draw" is defined. Obviously, every turn you draw a card... what about cards that let you search and pull a card from your deck into your hand? directly to the battlefield? how about returning cards from your graveyard to your hand/battlefield? what about the sphinx in M12 that has your opponent draw 5 from your deck, split them into 2 piles, and you take one? is that drawing 5? or just the pile you take? or nothing at all.

Here's how you know, Aetherium. Does the card say "draw" on it? If so, Erasure triggers. If not, it doesn't. I'll go through your examples:
Diabolic Tutor: "Put"s things into your hand. Doesn't trigger. Green Sun's Zenith: Doesn't even have to do with your hand. Doesn't trigger. Disentomb: "Return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand." Doesn't trigger. Sphinx of Uthuun: "reveal the top five cards of your library. An opponent separates those cards into two piles. Put one pile into your hand" Doesn't trigger. Ponder: "Draw a card". Triggers. Divination: "Draw two cards". Triggers twice.

rather than new jace and new new jace, could we put the actual card names? otherwise in future expansions we'll be left with new new new new new new new new new new new new new jace.

This with sensei's divining top and Etherium sculptor equals victory. Once the Sculptor and Jace's Erasure is in play all you need to do is get the Top in play and another on top of your library. Easy to do and a win on your opponents next draw step.

I'm having a bit of an argument with someone over the wording of the card, specifically the "...you MAY have target player..." part. In my mind, this means the target player needs to be chosen each time a card is drawn, so if the player who played the card enters their main phase they would lose the ability to use it's effect for their initial draw. Is there any other rulings for/against this?

The fact that this card is a common staggers me. Seriously, this can become a massive mill engine, especially in a color known for draw abilities.
On the negative side, if you're playing against someone who's using graveyard recursion this card can become a liability quickly. I found this out first-hand... when I was the one with the Nether Shadow/Ashen Ghoul deck. "Aww, shucks, there went another Ghoul. That's just so disappointing. Done with your turn? Good... and three Ghouls rise from my graveyard and immediately eat your face for 9 damage." Believe it or not it was actually a few turns before the guy decided to stop milling me during his draws.
Anyway, I will admit that in my other decks I usually stock an Erase, Disenchant, or Demystify with this card (and several others) in mind.

This card ruins people. Especially with how I use it. Hey Opponent! Love Howling Mine? Not any more! Love Walking Archive? Not any more! Love Vision Skeins? Not any more!
If there is anything that Jace's Erasure teaches us Magic Players, it's that sharing is caring! Especially when your opponents are losing about 6 cards every turn!
Run 4 of these on a blue/green Ally deck. Sea Gate Oracle let's you draw for the number of allies, and when your friends see how dangerous that is, you still have creatures with a lot of 1/1 counters on them. With 4 Halimar Excavators I milled upwards of 100 cards per turn.

Perhaps a silly question, perhaps not.
Does having multiple copies of this in play cause your opponent to put additional cards in the graveyard? I think it would as drawing a card would trigger each copy's effect, but I hate to assume.
Let's say I have two of these in play and I cast Ponder, would my opponent then have to put the top two in his/her graveyard?
If so, I think Mind Unbound in a control deck would be crazy.

A nice solid component of any serious mill deck; combos really well with Rites of Flourishing. Definitely 5/5 in my opinion.
Combos hilariously with Painter's Servant and Compost. Yeah, that's right, you both just got your libraries composted. Add Laboratory Maniac to win instead of decking yourself. Psychosis Crawler will probably also get the job done. I should hope.
When you have two in play it adds up very fast. I have a casual mill deck built completely around this card. You have 4 of these, a bunch of stuff that draws you cards (so you have lots in hand) and throw in some Teferi's Puzzle Box. He's milling 15 cards a turn in
Get one of these out, and all your Memory Lapses become Counterspells while all your Time Ebbs become Terminates. This is amazing in mono blue. Of course, you can get the maximum benefit out of it by playing Teferi's Puzzle Box and the like. It's also good in a deck with a lot of card draw because it stops you from self milling (i.e. Your opponent's deck will run out first). And, obviously, you can target yourself with the mill to help fill your graveyard.

Run 4 of this, run 4 blue sun's zenith, cast blue sun's zenith over and over again on an opponent's end step allowing you to draw as many cards as you want, watch them mill there deck before your very eyes. Works like a charm in all the games I play, especially since my control tactics tend to draw the game out to the point where I have 10+ lands out.
You can obviously remove a threat you see from the top of their library, but if they don't have a threat you can mill yourself if you don't like your next card.
I used my Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge to cast Enter the Infinite with Jace's Erasure on the field.

Playable limited? If you play this turn 2 with a Tomb Scour, your opponent dies turn 13, which isn't impossible in limited. Plus, it's common, meaning you can easily get multiple. In a mill deck, not half bad.

Howling Mine
Teferi's Puzzle Box
Or you could run Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, Vigor, Progenitus, Darksteel Colossus, etc. and Mind over Matter, Phantatog/Psychatog, Skirge Familiar + anything that uses mana, and/or Wild Mongrel to increase the hilarity. Or Chains of Mephistopheles and Wheel of Sun and Moon. The possibilities are endless!
