The dude in the art looks just like the guy from Mana Leak. Looks like this was the spell he was trying to cast all along. Now that Mana Leak is leaving standard his spell will finally resolve, as seen in the art!

Awesome card that will see play in EDH. The first thing I think of is that Red will probably win or draw with this because of Haste/damaging Instants, but I'm sure shenanigans will be abound.

I don't understand why people are calling for this to get banned in Commander, and I'm disappointed they're not willing to give it a try yet. Decree of Annihilation and Obliterate are legal, and there are two main differences from those to this: This doesn't let you keep enchantments and planeswalkers, so you have to jump through more hoops to win with it, and it sets lifetotals to a really low number so the game doesn't drag on for another hour as you try and topdeck your win after you cast it. I've felt Decree and Obliterate had that experience; either they had a few planeswalkers out at it felt like one of the cheapest, least-interesting, and least-worked-for wins I'd ever seen, or they didn't have those (or had some but not enough) and the game took forever to finish. The game won't take as long to finish afterward because of the lifetotal. And by giving you more hoops to jump through, I will respect a player more for winning after this than the others. Well, except if they just add it to their Jhoira of the Ghitu deck, because that's just so obvious it's stupid.

the main reason this will be banned in EDH is simple because it sets all players lives to 1, its too easy to manipulate and lets face it, its the biggest mana ramp format, so yaaa, im not looking forward to playing against this

@SyntheticDreamer

I don't think this will get banned. It is a bit too hard to cast to get banned. And not a lot of people will want to cast this because it kills the person's hand as well. I see it more likely that this and Omniscience will get Jhoira of the Ghitu banned.

Hey, look! Apocalypse has a new buddy in the world of mono-red enchantment removal! For the low, low price of nine mana, everything on the battlefield, and every player's hands, graveyards and life totals, you too can show that kid with his circles of protection just who's boss.

Anyways, while you can definitely use oblivion ring to save a permanent for the aftermath of this spell, you can also stay mono-red and use something like Changeling Berserker or Lightning Crafter (or even Nova Chaser). The Berserker is the most flexible, and you could champion something like Vulshok Sorcerer or Cunning Sparkmage: Once the Worldfire resolves and exiles the berserker, your championed creature can return to play and seal the deal.

A far more stylish and flavorful option would be Worldgorger Dragon, who essentially champions your whole board, returning it unscathed once you've incinerated the rest of the world. Of course, since the dragon exiles all of your lands, you'd need to float fifteen mana and play it and then Worldfire on the same turn, but hey, no one ever said that eating and burning entire planes would be cheap. Another more feasible, but similarly funny option would be to run this alongside Soulgorger Orgg. Play the Orgg (who essentially champions your life total, minus one), survive to the next turn, and cast this. It will exile the Orgg and set everyone's life total to one, after which the Orgg will notice it's left the battlefield and gives you back your life total. You'll still be stuck in topdeck mode, of course, but you'll be racing to one damage while your opponent has to race to, say, 17.

People have been suggesting the use of "delayed" burn spells like staggershock and rift bolt, and I'd like to add Arc Blade to the list. It takes a bit more work to line things up so that Arc Blade will be set to un-suspend on the turn after you cast Worldfire, but in exchange you have the option to cast Arc Blade earlier, and perhaps even take out multiple opponents in the turns following Worldfire.

Love is a burnin' thing,
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire.

I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet.
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire ran wild.

Nothing is closing my eyes
Nothing can beat me down for your pain or delight, no
And nothing seems to break me no matter how hard I fall
Nothing can break me at all
Not one for giving up though not invincible I know

I've givin' everything I need
I'd give you everything I own
I'd give in if it could at least be ours alone
I've given everything I could
To blow it to hell and gone
Burrow down and then

Guess what? I found a way for this card to cause you to win. Not standard, but it's awesome. Here we go: the ability "Champion". Cards with that ability must exile a type of card that is specified as they enter play, or they are sacrificed. When they LEAVE the field, the exiled card returns. Exile anything that has at least 1 power and has haste for the Champion. Then, use this in your precombat main phase. The championed card will return, and still has haste. Combat - kill someone else with the 1/whatever Haste creature. You can do this repeatedly for each and every opponent. Example:

Changeling Berserker is red, and has "Champion a Creature". Cost is 3Red. It's a 5/3 Haste. Champion a copy of, say, Goblin Guide, a 2/2 Haste with a mana cost of Red, or even a Mountain Bandit or Raging Goblin, which are both 1/1 Haste for Red. Once you get 6RedRedRed, use this to nuke out everything and everyone, and then, after the effect fully resolves and this card goes to the Graveyard (according to the Rulings), the Changeling Berserker(s) you had out "left the battlefield", so you get the other Haste creature(s) back. Have any creature(s) you have out with Haste just walk into the other player's or players' life total(s) of one for game against them.

Yeah, it's a lot of work, but it's a way to actually win on the turn you use this card.

The applications for this in EDH are just staggering. Obvious potential with Jhoira of the Ghitu.

There have been times when I've tried to go for the win with Jokulhaups or Obliterate and a couple of fatties suspended only to have lost because of a planeswalker being cast while they're suspended or someone holding lands and some removal but this....this solves all of those problems.

I used to believe there wouldn't be a card more destructive than Apocalypse. I was wrong...

This is probably my favorite m13 card. Most of the ideas it inspires involve cheating it out some how, but the thought of being down in board and life advantage late game, after being land flooded, and just tapping nine, throwing this onto the table, then sweeping the entire field off the table, then grabbing your opponent's cards out of hands and throwing them away is too sweet to pass up.

I want to make a deck with Jhoira of the Ghitu, that suspends this and either a burn spell or a creature. I'd run 4 stormcrow, just to use that as my finisher.

For your Zedruu the Greathearted commander:
1. Give away your choice of Chandra Nalaar or Chandra, the Firebrand to one of your opponents with Zedruu's ability.
2. Oblivion Ring the traded planeswalker.
3. Whenever you get around to it, cast Worldfire.
4. Chandra goes back to your control. Activate the first ability.

Chandra Ablaze can work too, but you're gunna need to top deck a red card on the next turn after.

No-one has mentioned what I consider the most obvious facet to winning with Worldfire- it doesn't affect spells already on the stack. While it is a sorcery itself and must therefore resolve last, there are many ways to manipulate the stack, several of which are T2 / Standard legal. The setup I'm using is to stack Worldfire, then Searing Spear (at this point you'd be thinking that the Spear is irrelevant, right?) THEN drop a Reverberate, copy the Worldfire to the top of the stack, watch as copy-Worldfire resolves and drops your opponent to 1, then the Spear kills them, with the original Worldfire now being irrelevant. Too expensive at 13 mana you say? Battle Hymn after throwing a few goblins around with Krenko, or you can splash green and ramp with Boundless Realms...

Thagtusk or Oblivion Ring on your own creature seem to be sure wins. I was disappointed Helvault and Geralf's Messenger don't work.

@Plantix- Hexproof will not save it, because Worldfire doesn't target anything. Targeting has a very specific meaning in Magic: the spell or effect must include the word "target".

@TokenAZN- The Marauders will be exiled before the life totals are set to one, so I don't think that will work.

Edit: Whoops I was wrong, and I feel a little dumber now. "Leaves-the-battlefield triggers won't resolve until you're done resolving Worldfire entirely." Worldfire is in the process of resolving, so the LTB triggers go on the stack, they don't resolve.

A part of me feels like this should be uncounterable. It seems silly that a simple Negate or Force Spike can prevent something so catastrophic. At least in my opinion.

That being said, Rift Bolt is probably the easiest way to score a victory with this card. Even if your opponent top decks a Gut Shot, they won't have the life or mana to cast it.

This makes Mono Red now a perfectly respectable color in Commander or Two Headed Giant.

It's not like Red didn't have nice things before, and EVERY COLOR is pretty good paired with an ally and pretty great paired with an enemy, but MONO Red...it just had difficulties when facing people with 40 life. There are fun kooky things you can do, but you really couldn't Roast n' Toast everyone as easily as you could with just 1 opponent, and Life Gain decks just make everything a mess for you even with just 2 players. Of course, Red has some things it can do about this, in theory...

But imagine a Ghave, Ghuru of Spores deck. That's about the most 'I Hate Red' as you can get: You have your Life Gain, you have your 'Bodies Outnumber Bullets' plans going, you have 'Even when things Die, they don't', causing each Red Burn Spell in your deck to seem feebler and feebler, as instead of Countering them like a decent, honest Blue player does (YES, i SAID THAT!) it just lets you play them, and the effect happens, and they have the AUDACITY to USE your own spells to GAIN VALUE for their board!!?? (Because you have to spend more than 1 spell to get rid of their things, they're just Trolling your concepts of Life and Death to Kingdom Come the entire game.) How anyone can say 'Thank you ma'am!' or 'Please sir, may I have another!' after getting hit in the face with a Fireball or getting their army Comet Stormed....but Black, Green, and White all working together actually have the tools to do just that. It's disgusting.

So Worldfire is quite the Equalizing force against some of the more appalling decks out there, and basically is to Multiplayer kind of a bastard cross between what Channel-Fireball and Apocalypse are to 'usual MAGIC', and works on the same premise:

"If I have no cards and 1 life, and you have no cards and 0 life, that means I win."

Oblivion Ring a Tainted Sigil, the Ring leaves play and the sigil comes back after Worldfire, in EDH if 6 players had an average of 20 life remaining each, that results in 114 points of lifegain for you.

I think I'd try running this in a Locus deck along with Staggershock , bolt, shock and pyromancer's ascension. After 3 locus land down you have 9 mana + 4 mountains. You can run a staggershock along with this. So 7 turns or a bit more and you can end the game.

@TheWrathofShane As for me, Ill be using this with Chandra Ablaze. Her ultimate with this on the stack in front of a lightning bolt should be glorious.

Worldfire is a sorcery. You can't use sorceries in response to anything outside of using cards that grant sorcery cards instant-speed (like Quicken, Leyline of Anticipation, Hypersonic Dragon). So really, your combo couldn't even be executed in normal play. In standard, to have this on the stack in front of a lightning bolt, you'd have to have Hypersonic out, then cast Lightning Bolt, then cast Worldfire.

But I'm not sure why you'd need Chandra Ablaze and the Lightning Bolt. Just use her ultimate, cast Worldfire, then use whatever is in your graveyard. Seems like if you get Chandra's ultimate off anyway, you shouldn't even need Worldfire. You should have stocked your graveyard with enough fodder already to win.

And this is why you always leave three sources of blue mana untapped - Cancel or two mana and a black for my personal favorite undermine....kind of like a veto threat, even if you don't have a counter. Best way to bluff your opponent into NOT setting the world on fire!

@Lifegainwithbite: I imagine the laughter was you realising your plans all went awry as you discarded said Land and Gut Shot.

As for this spell, sometimes it's nice just to play it when things are going horribly wrong for you. One last hurrah for when everyone else in multiplayer has beaten you to death.

For all you people saying to use an oblivion ring on your own perms, well that is a terribly inefficient way to play. Rather, use thragtusk or something thats not going to be setting yourself back in hopes that this gos off.

Call me stupid, but I just replaced my dragonstorms with these and all of my dragons with memnites and some lightning bolts - best turn one I've ever managed.

Application for sure win in multiplayer (no matter how many players):

- Cast Lavaborn Muse
- Use Oblivion Ring on Lava Muse (or use a similar card to oblivion ring).
- Cast Worldfire, oblivion ring is exiled and Lava Muse enters the battlefield again and you give over your turn to the next player = You win!

I actually had a guy cast Norin the Wary against me. I was expecting something really ingenious, but a few turns later he cast worldfire, and laughed. I then explained to him how Norin works...he was pretty upset.

@Continue: "Oblivion Ring a Manabarbs, then cast this.
I accidentally the game
."

You'd still be able to win with instant-speed burn. From the rulings on Manabarbs:

"On the other hand, a player can tap lands for mana, let the Manabarbs triggered abilities be put on the stack, and then respond to those abilities by casting an instant or activating an ability using that mana. In that case, the spell or ability will resolve first."

This card makes Piranha Marsh look kinda good. Assuming you have some library manipulation or extreme luck.

Still, that's probably the best card you can topdeck following this.

The best card to combo this card with is Keldon Marauders at the moment.

But that could only kill one player at once... if you wanna kill everybody try Vela the Night-Clad but that will be 3 colors...
