I'm so excited that this was reprinted. One of my all time favorite cards. It always bugged me how the mana symbols in Mirrodin were uncolored. I'll take four please!

20 damage? All right, but if we can choose the perfect hand, let's think outside the box. Here's infinite damage turn 1:

exiled Simian Spirit Guide->Rite of Flame->Rite of Flame->Seething Song (or a 3rd Rite). You now have at least RedRedRedRedRedRed.

Now play Seat of the Synod, tap it for Blue, sac it to Kuldotha Rebirth, and Mass Polymorph with only three creature cards in your deck: Quillspike, Devoted Druid, and Flame-kin Zealot.

Attack for as much damage as you like.

*sigh* Thanks to this card, I look at my old playset with their old art, with disappointment.

@ DarthParallax. Geosurge's mana can only be used to pay for creatures and artifacts. So it card ramp into Dragonstorm.

Should be illegal to play Dragonstorm with old versions.

BarryOrgg- Challenge accepted!
Mountain
Simian Spirit Guide {R} into Rite of Flame {RR} into Pyretic Ritual {R}{R}{R} into Seething Song {RRRRR} into Geosurge {R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R} into Dragonstorm....

0 for 1
1 for 2
2 for 3
3 for 5
4 for 7 (5-4=1,+7=8)
tap the Mountain (9)

OOOOPS!
Mindbreak Trap

:O

into face-punch.

win by knockout!

or you could fetch...uh..carry the 1...5 Dragons, and go on record as having the most Red Mana Symbols appear in a game of Magic by turn 1....ever....
My Picks:
Dragon Tyrant, Lightning Dragon, Pardic Dragon, Rakdos Pit Dragon, and Worldgorger Dragon. If you're going for the Mana Symbol Record and the 'Sarkhan is happy LoLz' achievement on XboxLive. :P

@Laughing Man: Well....darn. Well-spotted. I like to play casual with lots of House Rules, though, and this is so cool it should be allowed to work anyway. :P Screw the Rules I have Dragons!
For the Real World Version, just sub in another Seething Song instead of Geosurge, and tap the Mountain for Sol Ring into Sol Ring. There. Now it Works.

Want to make people hate you in EDH?

All right, here goes.

You're playing Scion of the Ur-Dragon. Lucky you, you have the WhiteBlueBlackRedGreen to play your Scion. By some small act of god, your general survives his first turn out and it's now your turn, he's ready to swing, and that one pesky opponent doesn't have a flier out.

So you decide to murder the hell out of him. Pay 2 to copy Dragon Tyrant, then your remaining 3 mana to cast this, pump the Tyrant'd Scion five times with its firebreathing, and then proceed to deliver fatal commander damage in one shot.

Boros Garrison, 1 Plains, 1 Mountain, and 1 Clifftop Retreat, plus Lightning Greaves on field, play Seething Song by tapping Garrison and Mountain, essentially 2 White mana and 5 Red, summon Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, and hook with Greaves (hello zero equip cost), so 5/5 first striking, flying, hasting, shrouding, damage-doubling, totally butt-kicking, hot angel...10 damage...good night

My use for this is apparently mundane. (and if the rest of the ideas here are any indicator, WAY to practical)
T1: mountain, ANY 1cmc goblin
T2: mountain, Mogg Maniac
T3: mountain, Seething Song, Furnace of Rath,
T3 (cont) Goblin Grenade the 1cmc goblin into the maniac for 5, (doubles to 10),
maniac swats opponent for 10 (doubles to 20).
Pathetic :(

Banned in modern? Why? Yeah it's a great card, but it's not tearing up the format or anything. They should have banned the storm cards that this was being used with instead.

According to the explanation given with the banning, this was the card in storm decks that was the easiest to ban which allowed "frequent" 3rd turn wins, which is a no-no in modern. They didn't want to completely invalidate storm decks, so they gave it a limp instead.

The question is what will storm fill that gaping 4 card hole with after the banning? and how many people will give up on the deck because of the loss in speed?

not only could it give you game on turn three but if it played right alongside a card like Mirrari or even Djinn Illuminatus the whole infinite mana loop was also an issue plus this was banned just like dark ritual was banned along time ago same reasons different cards.

They should just use Geosurge and play Wurmcoil Engine instead.

Even without instant speed this may have gotten the ban hammer. That 18 damage turn one combo by Boakes is a perfect example. That one requires 6 of 7 cards to synergize. I would cast in T2 using (any cheap mana accelerator from T1), then combo with Reverberate to get 8 mana floating, then Quicksilver Amulet to get out (insert big beastie here) ... game over. That takes 5 of 8 cards to synergize.

Fun, but broken. Hate to see you go, but love to watch you seethe.

With creatures being much better today and planeswalkers providing repeatable card advantage, this might be a little bit overpowered today. I suppose this is also why they stopped printing ramp effects as good as Thran Dynamo, or even Explosive Vegetation. Still, a turn three Seething Song into Stormbreath Dragon isn't exactly as bad as turn three Invisible Stalker + Unflinching Courage. Maybe this card is okay after all, in a format without storm.
