Man, I love this card but the drawback is just killing me xd
na lol it's still a good card, but without that drawback it would have been awesome to link with other red mana ramp spells like Rite of Flame, Seething Song, etc. Still a good card though, just wish it didn't have that drawback

Can you pay for the kicker on a creature with this as well as its normal mana cost? If so Deathforge Shaman is looking for a home.
People who are saying turn 4 whatever, please not that it becomes turn 3 with a simple Pyretic Ritual. An awe inspiring card. I really hope it seems some tournament play.
T2 Sphere of the Suns with this yields T3 Titan, Chancellor.

@VINCRISTIANO: That won't be a very big Fireball. And what are you going to do with the leftover 7 mana?

Forget the red Cancellor - turn 4 Spine of Ish Sah, now that's something!

I am deeply, deeply, deeply saddened that I cannot use Dragonstorm with this.

I already get those out turn 4. I get Butcher of Malakir out turn 4. This is just an Easy button for doing stuff like that.

pyrretic ritual, priest of urabrask, then this!
could somebody tell me what WotC is planning here? this looks to me that they're planning to make another Storm! but a variant of storm for that matter. I believe Wizards just mentioned that they won't bring back storm again for it's nearly broken-ness.
Other than that, I'm pretty sure it's obvious what all can be abused with this card.

Turn 4 Geosurge, Koth, -2, THEN Myr Battlesphere, Platinum Angel, Red Chancellor, Inferno Titan, Spine of Ish-Nah, Steel Hellkite, Wurmcoil Engine, etc...
Scratch that, if you turn 2 an Iron Myr you can turn 3 Geosurge, Koth -2 your 3 mountains, Inferno Titan. Turn 4 swing with titan, mountain, myr, you've done 18 damage overall, 6 of which can be distributed how you please among creatures/players.

Okay, that's seven red mana. Seven...
I have to say, I sort of dislike how you have to count out the mana. I'd prefer if it were more legible at a glance.

About to get better with M12.
Turn 4: 4 Mountains, Chandra, The Firebrand Turn 5: 5 Mountain, bolt opposing player, -2 Chandra, cast Geosurge to add 10 mana to your mana pool, cast Furyborn Hellkite with bloodthirst activated.
Arachibutyrophobia

interesting, both pyretic ritual (and dark ritual) and seething song add 2 mana, but this one adds 3.
on that count alone I'd say this card is good. 4/5
As you can see this card has potential to unleash mayhem if used properly.

Problem is that decks that want temporary mana acceleration don't want to use it playing creature or artifact spells, they want to play storm spells that are all instants or sorceries.
It has a few cute combos so it's not totally useless, but it's nowhere near Seething Song, Rite of Flame, Dark Ritual, or any of the other mana boosters.
Spend this mana only to cast anything except Dragonstorm.

This card would be $5 a piece IF you could also use the mana to activate abilities. 7 mana is the exact amount required to play and activate Goblin Charbelcher.

Can Geosurge be used to pay for X in a creature spell cost? It says "to cast creature spells". Is the X is part of the cost, though it is counted as 0 converted?
This is a major slap in the face if it is played against you. Even without the combo chains mentioned before, if your opponent has seven mana on turn four prepare for some serious life and/or tempo loss
@konvay Yes, you can use the mana to pay X in creature spells because the X is part of the casting cost, but if you're going to use this on something like Primordial Hydra, green ramp is a lot more stable and efficient than red ramp is.

A biography of that guy who adds red mana to your mana pool:
This man was once a Prodigal Pyromancer. But, his friend, Simian Spirit Giude, introduced him to the glory of adding mana to ones mana pool. He tried it in a fiery blast known as the Pyretic Ritual. He grew to loving this peaceful act of creation. But something was troubling his friend, the Spirit Guide. There were legends of a bloating sorcerer doing what he called the Dark Ritual. This man by the fire tried to equal the sorcerer, but all he could do were enact the Rite of Flame. He made Seething Songs. But, he could never defeat the black-mana aligned wizard. He allied with Koth, and started this rite. Desperate to confront his enemy, the Priest of Gix, he set unto the world a Priest of Urabrask. But the fact that he could never equal the Dark Ritual drove him mad. Then, in a suicidal rage, he betrayed all and took to the Infernal Plunge.

The only reason why I rated this a four is because you can play Elbrus the Binding Blade on turn three and equip ir to your invisible stalker on turn four. Then, you proceed to rape face.
Turn one, mountain, and goblin fireslinger. turn two, nother mountain tap to ping, then infernal plunge sac goblin, use other mountain and 3 for geosurge, and throw out a 12/12 fury born hell kite. next turn swing'n'fling.
@Keino yeah I think he WOULD explode after that :P Fetch, oh, I dunno...Lightning Dragon. 3 Lightning Dragons and 3 Dragon Tyrants = the most frikkin {R} s EVER!!!! lol. 7 card combo on turn 1. if you get it, you DESERVE IT! xD
EDIT! just read the bottom of Geosurge for the first time ever.....ooops....lol. Well, I'm still going to cast Dragonstorm with this in casual, if I can find people willing to ignore that rule. I will have to think of something equally fun for them to do that R & D pooped on in exchange. Maybe I'll let them cast JTMS for 3, lulz. Or use more than 4 Squadron Hawks o.O Because in Kitchen Table Magic, ANYTHING can happen.
BTW: you CAN use this in a LEGAL Dragonstorm deck, if you're clever. Make sure you count your mana right so that you have enough for Dragonstorm BEFORE this goes on the stack. Play this, play Dragonstorm off that other mana, choose Moonveil Dragon as one of your targets. Pump the 7 mana from this into Moonveil Dragon. :D

@DarthParallax Apparently you need to read it once more, man. It can only be used for creature Spells. The activated ability of spells and creatures may not be paid for with this mana. Sorry bud :P
This is something I'd love to do some day: T1: Mountain, Raging Goblin (any other 1-drop creature would work too) T2: Mountain, Infernal Plunge (sacrificing the aforementioned creature). Tap another Mountain and use the to cast Geosurge. And with that mana, cast Akroma, Angel of Fury.

But there are plenty of other applications, I'm sure. Just search for red creatures with mana cost 7 and go to town.
Pyretic Ritual
then
Seething Song
now this...
He is going to explode one of these days...
na lol it's still a good card, but without that drawback it would have been awesome to link with other red mana ramp spells like Rite of Flame, Seething Song, etc.
Still a good card though, just wish it didn't have that drawback
With Koth's '-2: Add Red to your mana pool for each Mountain you control.'
With Geosurge
then, lastly cast Fireball
surely devastating
Well, Koth is the coolest Planeswalker, damn good guy
I already get those out turn 4. I get Butcher of Malakir out turn 4. This is just an Easy button for doing stuff like that.

ps: i'm looking at my Storm Entity right now.
ACTUALLY:
Turn 1: Play land
Turn 2: Play another land, Play Pyretic Ritual, play seething song, play Geosurge, play Steel Hellkite, Myr Battlesphere, etc...
PRAY THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A COUNTER YET!!
Other than that, I'm pretty sure it's obvious what all can be abused with this card.

Pyretic Ritual, Priest of Urabrask, Seething Song, This, Urabrask the Hidden .
Would be a VERY fun opening hand.
Turn 4: Chandra, the Firebrand
Turn 5: Mountain, -2, this, hard cast Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
:)
As you can see this card has potential to unleash mayhem if used properly.

T2: Mountain, Infernal Plunge, Geosurge, Inferno Titan
Well hello there, Innistrad.
Card I'm mostly looking at casting is Primordial Hydra
@konvay
Yes, you can use the mana to pay X in creature spells because the X is part of the casting cost, but if you're going to use this on something like Primordial Hydra, green ramp is a lot more stable and efficient than red ramp is.
