SIGH. Why did they reprint this version? I liked Ablaze much better... Oh hey the red planeswalker does nothing but deal damage! How clever and unexpected!

she won me a few games at prerelease!

@Ishubarashi
ablaze was worse. fun in theory but too expensive to play in a mono red deck and only really effective if you had a lot of instants/sorceries. her -2 was probably her most useful ability :P

It makes me sad that this card can cost as low as three bucks, while Jace and Garruk are thriving as much as ever. Even Liliana sees more play than this poor planeswalker.

why is everyone hating on her her -8 will win you the game in any deck worth its salt.

this is red in all its beauty. nothing quite like doing 10 dmg to the board for 5 mana. too bad takes 2 turns for it, which probably shouldn't. if her 2nd ability has "this ability can be used as an instant". she'd be MUCH more useful lolz and we'd see tons of play with her

Hahaha, this card is so utterly, uselessly red! Just deals damage, seriously, she is so useless to me. My friend had one, and he built up the ability against me and another friend. He then used the ultimate when we had a bunch of life and I played Ethersworn Shieldmage and my friend played Akroma's Blessing, shutting down the creature damaging effect. Now, I'm not saying that this card is the worst planeswalker in my eyes because stuff like that can happen, but she certainly lacks versatility, and is so bland!

What else is a RED planeswalker supposed to do? Draw cards? Gain you life? Your an idiot.

I don't know why she's so hated, she lands with 6 counters. That's staying power. Her 1 damage doesn't seem like much, but with her pet Chandra's Spitfire and a Quest for Pure Flame it's a pretty serious threat. Her abilities may not be interesting, or subtle lol, but that's what I expect from a Pyromancer.

★★★☆☆ (3.9/5.0) (4 votes)
The only real problem I have about chandra is her +1 ability. It deals 1 damage to a player. Not very strong. But then again, if it did 2 damage, that would just be overpowered.

Otherwise, solid planeswalker.

It's red. What would you expect? Personally, I would combo it with my purple creatureless deck with Jace Beleren, Pyromancer's Acension,Leyline of Anticipation and Jace's Erasure. She burns and makes sure that I don't have to worry about creatures while I deal damage with burn spells and make sure you mill at least one card a turn. Eventually either the damage or the milling will kill you.

I think people have such a low opinion of Nalaar because she's so predictable. Seriously, your choices are: Ping a player for 1, ping a creature for X, or nuke a player and all his/her creatures for 10. She's good, people just don't want a predictable Planeswalker.
Sironos
★★★★☆ (4.1/5.0) (7 votes)
If you don't like this because of it's lack of versatility, red is NOT your colour. This is a nuclear weapon with a time counter on it, if that doesn't get you going, don't play red burn.

I think I traded it for a plethora of other stuff since it was so "valuable" back then.

If you have a doubling season on the board, you can use her ultimate immediately. Not sure why everyone hates on this card. It's cla.ssic red. Combo it also with rings of brighthearth and shes pretty darn good.

Personally I find myself using her -X ability the most, even if it is just to sacrifice her to kill a Primeval titan. I also like her paired up with Koth in my new big red deck, in one game against a Control player he tapped out turn 5 to drop down a Baneslayer Angel, I responded by playing Koth of the Hammer using his -2 ability to play Chandra and using Chandra's -X ability to kill the creature, the look on my opponents face was priceless.

If it weren't for other planeswalkers out there, she'd look better.

At the least, 5 mana nets 6 damage to a target creature. At best that's 2 mana more efficient than fireball, but it lacks the scaling. Still, if the full 6 isn't needed she starts growing and eventually the opponent has to deal with her, which means damage not coming to you. If her ultimate can come into play, it is a game changer.

Still, would be nice to have a little extra. Maybe 1 less mana cost or her -X damage could target other planeswalkers (her +1 can). Relative to other planeswalkers, 2 damage from her +1 doesn't seem overpowered -- Koth's mountains hit for 4 and Chandra costs 1 more. Gideon Jura effectively has no ultimate but can swing for 6.

Then again, maybe it's all the other planeswalkers are just better than they should be.

Really wished her +1 hit creatures or did 2 damage. Still she's an amazing card that is either going to win you the game 2 turns after you drop her, or kill something on the field and then maybe slowly burn the opponent from their.

Combo time!

Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas + Liquimetal Coating + Chandra Nalaar + Phyresis OR Grafted Exoskeleton.

If you did it right, Chandra Nalaar is now a 5/5 red artifact creature that's still a planeswalker and has infect. If she goes ultimate, it's an auto win.

Also, she's a creature that can be attacked because she's still a planeswalker. People can attack creatures that happen to be planeswalkers, that's funny. I wonder, if she was given first strike, could she profitably block for herself?

★★★☆☆ (3.5/5.0) (3 votes)
The reason she is being hated is that she cost too much . .
If she costed 3 mana instead of 5 with reduced counters and reduced final ability, then she may fit in to a 'red' deck.

Since Koth of the Hammer got printed Chandra has actually become much better for mono red control variants. When you drop a Koth then drop a Chandra (even better is drop a Karn in there somewhere too) it becomes much harder for your opponent to evaluate which PW to swing at. If Koth goes ultimate it's GG, if Chandra goes ultimate you wipe his board.

Not to mention a resolved Chandra = 6dmg to a creature for 5 mana, that is quite good. Also both Koth and Chandra can ultimate the turn after they are dropped with just a single instance of Proliferate.

I've heard therer making a new version of her in m12, EDIT yes it's conrirmed CHandra the fire brand will be her m12 counter part she is not as good as the orriginal in my opinion but for a less cost and she's splashable I think it might make it's way to standars metagame.

While her +1 isn't great, it's really just a countdown to her -8. Dear opponent, you now have two turns to kill me or deal with this card, otherwise you and your board get turned into an ash heap.

★★☆☆☆ (2.2/5.0) (2 votes)
hi, people who think she sucks, u obviously cant play red at all, i have ended everyone anytime i got her on the field and people tend to want to scoop when she hits the field. the -1 is meant to be a time pass while you slam the opponent with other stuff. u spent 5 to play her, next turn, that 5, perhaps 6 if u get another land, can be used for some lightning bolts or shocks or a well-aimed arc trail, the -X is a defense against monsters and banks on the hopes that you have a iota of skill to get her counters up again, if u play a planeswalker, you gain an ally, that's why they are called loyalty counters, but they also expect loyalty from you, those of you play them to simply throw them away after their ultimates resolve make me sick, as speaking of ultimates, it takes four turns to use it and keep her around, not that much with a proper red offense-defense tactic deck like it should be, and planeswalkers are weighed in costed by their first two abilities, the ultimate is a bonus, so there, i hope you feel bad about yourselves and if you hate me, it only means i did my job and impacted your thoughts like i wanted to, sincerely, guy that can actually play red

It's odd how my prediction that Chandra would fall out of play due to combust was wildly incorrect. I thought combust would make her obsolete for killing baneslayers, but actually the titans scared baneslayer away, so now the creatures to kill are stuff combust can't smash while Chandra barely gets them. Still, you're paying 5 mana for it.

Chandra's biggest issue is that once your opponent does 1-2 points of damage to her, she's not threatening anyone with her ultimate (it'll take too long to build her up to 8 at that point), which means it's pointless to use her horrible +1, so then you're stuck with a -X that will kill herself quickly. Compared to other planeswalkers, like elspeth or gideon or jace 2.0 or ajani vengeant, who have very solid +1 or 0 abilities, which means they're a threat even if they're at 1-2 loyalty.

She's not BAD, but if I'm not mistaken, at the highest level of play (e.g. where all the pricey cards like jaces are flown around the place) the only time she pops up are in monored and RUG ramp/control decks largely to deal with titans, and she's definitely not a 4-of. She can also pick off little critters like lotus cobras, fauna shamans, and squadron hawks if you're desperate, although if you're running red you should be throwing down inferno titans to do that instead.

While her Planeswalker cards are usually interesting, I hate Chandra for being the most one-dimensional of the neo-walkers, personalitywise. What's her personality? She burns stuff. And she's not even a cool or interesting pyromaniac, like Jaya Ballard. She's the most boring kind of pyromaniac one could design.

This doesn't ever pop unless you have a strong defense or some counter manipulation. Using the -X to kill someone will make it never pop.

Notice how this card has 4.200 rating in all editions, only in Loywryn its 4.201... I don't dare to rate it now D:
About card, its pretty fun.. i mean, irst 2 abilties are complete junk, but ultimate is pretty much auto win, when playing against creature decks. She is like some kind of nice looking thing, which is not going to hurt you, when it suddenly kills you :D

If you're having trouble to pay her mana cost, you could run her in a goblin deck and use Brightstone Ritual.

Also, NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED.

Her high loyalty gives you an excellent spot removal when you drop her, and her ability to ping the opponent over and over in a stalemate afterwards is very helpful. Further, even just having Volt Charge in the deck can mean a T6 boardwipe + 13 damage to the face; which is likely game.

If you build an R or R/X control deck right, you can make her your win con very easily. Blue and Black both have excellent alternative proliferate spells (Gambit, Affliction), and all three colors have excellent creatures to benefit from it. (unleash, bloodthirst, graft, evolve)

doesn't hold a candle to ablaze, or really any chandra.

Paying x is just painful, given big creatures won't even net a guaranteed kill, let alone losing more then half her loyalty.

Of course this was one of the first planeswalkers. It had to have some fine-tuning. The only opnes that remain perfect to even today were ajani, lilianna, and somewhat garruk
