The more I think about this card, the more I really like it. I can imagine building a deck around it, but it might be more fun as a random one-of in a multiplayer deck. Squirm, opponents. How do you play around THIS?

This would be a good card to secure a win. After dealing heavy damage, you activate this and it's all over. Combine with Sanguine Bonds for an efficient kill.
Excellent combo card, and not a bad utility card in general. I'll be using 4 soon in one of my decks.

This card begs to be uses in a zendikar vamp deck. As mentioned by others combos well with Sanguine bond, but look at Blood tribute (this card with sanguine bond is an instant kill combo), Malakir bloodwitch (in a multi game this can give you a lot of life). I love this card, I'm puting this card in to a B/W vamp/lifegain deck with sanguine bond.

does this and Sanguine Bond make like an infinite life-draining thing? or does this only activate once?

Guntz, no, the effect of the sacrifice only occurs once, and then triggers Sanguine Bond once.

Of course if you have 2 of these out + a sanguine bond, the first one you sac gives you X life and your opponent loses X life. If you sac the next one, you get 2X life, and they lose 2X.
Best played after an attack step.

It can also be used well in with Squall line or any other of the hurricane/earthquake type cards.

Hm...How would this card work for Channel? If I were to pull off a Channel/Stream of life combo, paying 19 life and gaining 20, then popped this, would I be at 21 life, or at 40?
If 40, a G/B/W Sanguine Bond channel deck sounds....interesting. Terrible, but interesting.

@Kruggles you still gain the 19, taking you 40. Check the last ruling.
Though I don't see why you don't just fireball them for game.

Are you kidding me? Damage causes loss of life? THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING.

This would be much better with Exsanguinate than Earthquake or the like. Especially with Sanguine Bond. Jeez, that's brutal.
Pair with Breath of Malfegor, or with Kokusho, the Evening Star for double the lifegain (or at least a five five flyer no one will ever want to destroy. Naturally it's best in multiplayer - you don't have to do the work and you can get more life.

I want to use this with Repay in Kind. It would actually make such a deck much more useable since you now have an instant speed response to a lightning bolt after you drain your life to set up the repay in kind.

Hoarder's Greed is a 4 star card with this on the battlefield.
you could always go Sun Titan + this for a good ol' smackdown.

In my Orzhov deck, an excellent way to counter heavy damage, or (as stated several times with Sanguine Bond) an excellent damage dealer. Now with Exquisite Blood..well.. hm.

I can see this working better for black cards like Sign in Blood, rather than direct damage things, because i see as: Sign in Blood, Street Wraith, Gitaxian Probe, Surgical Extraction Activate this, Draw 3 cards, look at target players hand, Exile a graveyard card. Net life loss = 0.

Why does this just scream to me "Hey, extort them for double for the trouble they have caused you..."

The artwork is great, the effect is relatively unique, and the flavour is awesome. Easy 5/5.
