So, affectively a 10/10 that increases the damage output of your team, helps keep them safe, and make your opponents want to kill each other. Yea, this is insane in EDH. Sadly, doesn't seem good enough for standard.

★★☆☆☆ (2.6/5.0)(4 votes)
Broken in EDH, though if she wanted to be boros, she would have double strike instead of first strike and deal the double damage effectively quadrupling the original damage. On the bright side since your boros deck can effectively give anything double strike (it just takes a Sunhome) then you can make up for her not having double strike. Don't get me wrong she's still a 5/5 in my book just because she's abusable, I just wish she had double strike to show her true colors, that's all.

Boy, they're really catering to the EDH crowd in this set. Along with Bruna, Light of Alabaster, this card is too expensive to see play in Standard. But she is very welcome in a number of EDH decks -- both as a R/W general, and as a minion for Kaalia of the Vast.

Such flavor and oh how interesting, any EDH deck that runs these colors should clearly abuse her.
When I saw this card spoiled, and the rest of the Powerpuff Girls (Bruna and Sigarda), and the fact that the set would be Angels vs Demons, I had one thought:
i have a kaalia of the vast edh deck. this is a furnace of rath on an angelic stick that only hurts my opponents and protects me at the same time.
there are not enough words to describe what i am feeling right now.
shame bubbles and buttercup dont synergise with kaalia. so now i have to find a way to break the laws of time and space so that i can have a all three with kaalia. and i just realised that there still is not a 4 colour legendary, so avacyn can not lead the powerpuff girls into battle in edh. unless you use one of the five colour commanders. hum, Child of Alara makes a nice mayor stand in, and synergises with avacyn. heh. heh heh. hehehehehehehehHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!

The last ability is probably the best, because without it your opponents would likely treat her like they treat a casting of Edric, Spymaster of Trest: Attack you until you're dead because they know what you're up to. But that last ability really makes them pause. At the very least they will reconsider attacking you.
In reality, very few of the angels and demons in this set are auto-includes for a Kaalia of the Vast deck, as the deck already had such good options. But Gisela is certainly one of them, as aggro decks in Commander need some push to take down several 40-life opponents, and Gisela really pushes it.

People need to stop talking about Kaalia of the Vast... Yeah we get it; they're good angels :|. I would go so far as to say that Kaalia is the new Doubling Season
A great card for casual. Big, splashy, game-changing, but not broken because creature destruction is an easy answer and it's not too powerful for it's cost, unlike a certain 5-mana angel.
I'd be pretty doubtful of this seeing play in constructed though. It's not strong or resilient enough to justify putting into a ramp deck (which would be off colour anyway). In reanimators you play relatively few other decent creatures except perhaps ramp creatures, so it takes her to use her doubling/halving abilities to its fullest which will take an extra turn. She's easily shot down because the opponent probably hasn't had a lot of opportunity to use their creature destruction. Unlike Elesh, she doesn't have an immediate effect on hitting the table - Elesh sweeps their x/2s and x/1s and if she doesn't die straight away your little guys can charge in and do some decent damage, whereas Gisela doesn't work as well with your little guys.
I think reanimators will need to look elsewhere for their new target of choice or they won't be viable.

I am sorry, but this card is way too overpowered. You are paying for a 10/10 first strike in turn seven and its effect is just ridiculous. I went both days to the avacyn restored prerelease and the only reason i didn't win anything was because three of my opponents had this card. This card mean you have won the game, end of story. I understand everyone wants her, even me, but it is too overpowered, WAY too overpowered. It is an absolute killer, I don't understand how Wizards bans Jace the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic, but, nooo, this card is ok? Broken, period. Might as well print a "You win the game" card. I actually managed to not lose to her in a pre-release game. was running white/green and Grounded her to remove flying and chump blocked her until we tied the game. ended up winning the round 1/0. It was too close. She's still amazing
I'm a R/W player, through and through, and this card just makes me happier than I can probably express.
It was depressing to go through Innistrad and Dark Ascension, with their arbitrary decision to focus on ally colored cards and to ignore enemy colored cards. But, this single card manages to make up for all of that.
It's a legendary mythic creature. Effectively the highest tier a creature can exist in, and the first R/W one ever printed. And, it actually pushes the boundaries of just how powerful a creature can be, being a virtual 10/10 first strike flyer for seven mana, which alone would be tremendously powerful but her abilities extend far, far beyond that.
When you throw in the fact that she's a beautiful angel, I'm just so happy that this card exists. It's like I've been rewarded for not giving up hope, which I guess is the core theme of Avacyn Restored.

Get both on the table and it's "R: Pyrohemia deals 2 damage to each opponent and each creature they control, and no damage to you or your creatures".
Edit: ClowWizardEriol, the damage prevented is rounded up. Rounding up 1/2 a point of damage prevented equals 1 point of damage prevented, thus she prevents all the damage Pyrohemia would deal to you and creatures you control.

@BorosGeneral Though in this case, the lack of double-strike makes her a card WotC is willing to make, and 2x damage first strike is BETTER than double-strike, in my opinion.
And I actually think the second ability is the better one, since it helps buy you time, and, as mentioned before, in multiplayer formats it forces players to think twice about attacking you when you take half and they take double, and instead choose to attack for double on another person preemptively.
Also, I love how she's around the same power level as BS angel, maybe better, and yet there is nowhere near the levels of rage that BS got...

What I love about Gisela is that she feels a LOT like Teferi. Not so much in the sense of the effects, but more so on their effect on the game. Not only do they give you a distinct advantage over your opponent, but they also create an equally proportional disadvantage for the opponent. Is it exactly fair? Not necessarily, but it's not broken, and that's why Gisela and Teferi are mythic. Cards like Gisela and Teferi define what a mythic should be—not completely broken, but enough to give you that necessary upper hand.
She is an amazing card but just way too broken. My friend has an EDH deck of her and I hate playing against it because of how utterly broken this card is. It's cards like this that have the potential of ruining the fun of Magic.

The 2nd worst Avacyn angel. Best colour-flavour-wise.
I would say she is great in multi-player, but in my experience playing her equals instant death on your part. Someone may take advantage of the doubling to kill someone else as well if they can also kill you that turn.
Great fun with anything else that says "Double" and also any impressive burn. My personal favorite for her in EDH is Brightflame. Assuming you play it the next turn and have 8 mana to work with, you have 8 damage to their general and hence to all their non-colorless creatures... then gain that much life. If you lose after that, you messed up or got really unlucky.
Now of course every aggro player loves Gisela. So I just want to point out she makes Little Girl do one damage, no matter who is running her.

This card is just awesome. Massive destructive power, but can be killed by any exile, sacrifice, and counter effect. It needs to be a bit harder to get on the field, tho. Turn seven is a death sentence when used in a WR deck. I use it within a WG deck with Cavern of Souls and Rampant Growth. works well, especially with my Craterhoof Behemoth. (oh dear god its evil when you pull off that combo)
Kaalia's army of Angel's, Demons, and Dragons couldn't be complete without the shining blade of Goldnight aiding her resolve.
At first, her, Avacyn, and Griselbrand settled their dispute for the greater good of Kaalia, but they soon realized that the demon was just too powerful, and banned him from the format.
And no, it wasn't a banning community or WotC, it was the angels. 100% not a lie to make a cool story.

She's basically a 10/10 in combat and a 10/20 outside of it. You aren't going to beat a player who has this card with damage, and it ends the vast majority of multiplayer games the second it hits the board. Amazing card, probably too good in Commander. 5/5.
Everyone saying that she's so broken in EDH is not playing at a highly competitive level, which while their is nothing wrong with that ( I play casual EDH and save competitiveness for standard) there are far more broken things in edh I can infinite combo killing all players turn 4 in edh I've seen glacial chasm and won hub on one side of the field matched by a vesuva on a glacial chasm on the other. Gisela was so good but she is outclassed by Aurelia, the Warleader. The comparisons are fair because both allow the team to deal double damage but Gisela can half the damage you receive while Aurelia can attack the turn she comes into play and has Vigilance. Its a tough call but Aurelia beats out Gisela by 1 turn and has Haste. So Aurelia is capable of 6 damage by her lonesome on turn 6, while Gisela has to wait till turn 7 to deal 10 damage, whereas turn 7 Aurelia will have deal 12 damage, the comparison favors Aurelia and her A-team.

An absolutely incredible card. Even if its third and fourth abilities only affected damage dealt to and by itself, it would still be a 10/10 flying first strike for 7 cost. You don't need to run cards that become absolutely insane with her (although there are plenty such as Manabarbs, Pyrohemia, and of course Heartless Hidetsugu who now reads: {T}: Every player other than you loses all of their life if their life total is even and all but one of their life if their life total is odd. You lose one quarter of your life, rounded down.) because she can single-handedly win you many games, and the rest can usually be won with whatever would already be on the field and her.

How does she work with Strionic Resonator from M14? I believe it will work as such:
Gisels, Blade of Goldnight attacks and is unblocked. As she would deal five damage to an opponent, the triggered replacement effect of dealing ten damage goes on the stack. You can then tap the Resonator to copy the triggered ability. They would each resolve separately, dealing 20 damage to the opponent.
Is this correct? If so, I will definitely be including this in my EDH.

@vantha I disagree. Yes, you can play Aurelia sooner than Gisela, but she is more likely to die in combat (it takes 4 damage to kill her, whereas with Gisela it takes 10). The same is true for the rest of your creatures. On top of that Aurelia strictly benefits you in combat damage, whereas Gisela also doubles damage from spells, artifacts, planeswalkers, and direct damage dealt by creatures. I have to give it to Gisela.

A lot of people are posting about combos with her. That's great, but look, she's essentially a 10/10 first strike flyer for seven mana all by her lonesome. So, basically everything else is just extra. The longer I think about this card the more I want one.
@ vantha Yeah, Aurelia is probably a better angel overall, what with titan and sword triggers. But, Gisela is less color intensive and in formats where this card is going to see play, (EDH) it has a similar impact on the board the turn it comes into play. You are going to have creatures that are attacking them that turn and those are going to get her bonuses. It's effect is Praetor-esque and at 7 mana, that's really where you want to be at. This, while it stays on the field, essentially cuts your opponents' life totals in half, makes their creatures more fragile, doubles your life total, and makes your creatures twice as big. Your opponent's creature has to be a Lord of Extinction to trade favorably against you in combat and that is devistating. It's like a Super-Elesh Norn and it really effects more then just your turn, unlike Aurelia, the Warleader.
p.s. i love how aggressive r/w angels are.

She makes for a great Boros General- her only real drawback is vulnerability to removal, which can be compensated for with Lightning Greaves or the like. She's incredibly flexible- she supports token swarm, goodstuff, combo, spellslinger, and voltron play styles.
For fun, add Hostility and cast Comet Storm- A double-sized horde of 6/2 Hasted Elementals is likely to end the game rather quickly.
Also, I *really* want to run her with Mirror Gallery and Infinite Reflection, just to make the game impossible to play without a calculator.

This card reminds me of a game:
There are two closed envelopes with money in them. One has twice the amount of money that the other has. You open one, and then you choose whether to keep the money or pick the other one. The game is strange because it's hard to figure out, mathematically, which choice is better. If you pick the other(closed) enveloped, then there is a 50% chance there will be twice as much money in it and a %50 percent chance there will be half as much money in it. On average, the other envelope has 125% as much money as the first. If you pick the other envelope first, the math works out the same way. That makes the game very confusing. This card is a lot simpler: you stack all damage in your favor and win very quickly.

And if you, for some reason (fog), couldn't win that turn you will cast a savage beatingthe turn after; that is double strike with x2 damage with 3x combat = your little 2/2 creature now give 24 damage. Epic!

Political EDH decks say hi! ;)
Avacyn Restored is making our Kaalia of the Vast decks for us.
there are not enough words to describe what i am feeling right now.
shame bubbles and buttercup dont synergise with kaalia. so now i have to find a way to break the laws of time and space so that i can have a all three with kaalia.
and i just realised that there still is not a 4 colour legendary, so avacyn can not lead the powerpuff girls into battle in edh. unless you use one of the five colour commanders. hum, Child of Alara makes a nice mayor stand in, and synergises with avacyn. heh. heh heh. hehehehehehehehHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!
In reality, very few of the angels and demons in this set are auto-includes for a Kaalia of the Vast deck, as the deck already had such good options. But Gisela is certainly one of them, as aggro decks in Commander need some push to take down several 40-life opponents, and Gisela really pushes it.
"No. The time for War is Over. VICTORY IS HERE. THIS. ENDS. NAOW. Bring forth the Powerpuff Girl."
Yes. This is a STRICTLY. BETTER. AVATAR OF SLAUGHTER. They actually freaking did that.
Also she's a redhead. And redheads are hot :P
Coincedently, I think I have an idea of what my next edh deck will be.
That's why my friends don't do prerelease events.....
Surprisingly, I think I like her. She's at least got an original ability, rather than some other legendary angels from this block I might mention.
Edit: ClowWizardEriol, the damage prevented is rounded up. Rounding up 1/2 a point of damage prevented equals 1 point of damage prevented, thus she prevents all the damage Pyrohemia would deal to you and creatures you control.
I think I'm obsessed with magic...
Though in this case, the lack of double-strike makes her a card WotC is willing to make, and 2x damage first strike is BETTER than double-strike, in my opinion.
It was his favorite, he used to praise it, and worship it.
He downloaded a wallpaper of Vorinclex and put it on his phone to admire it whenever he wanted
SO one day he was on the bus staring at Vorinclex and then he randomly went WTF!
Because he finally noticed how Vorinclex had baby hands coming out of his armpits
He was so disgusted by him that he disowned Vorinclex and now he just sits at the bottom of a card binder
Now he's doing the same to Gisela since she has similar ability except with damage instead of mana. He says that now the only thing that'll get him to quit liking GIsela is if he notices like a tiny dick dangling under her croch or something
But why bit them against ech other when can you use BOTH?
They work decent toghether actually. Gisela yield Razia that she NOT made of cardboard (duh) and Razia's can actually smack meanies on another side of the board for a whooping six!
Also it's note worthy that her first ability is kinda political in multiplayer, with opponents smacking each other for double damage.
It's nice knowing that with that angel lady and Slayer's Stronghold (and mabe, mabe other shinies in Return to Ravnica?) Boros can hit a buck once again.
gisela, dragon arch, spitemare, stuffy doll, defiler of souls, kaervek the merciless, shivan meteor, seething song, geosurge, reverberates.
She just took the place of some risky enchantments and added the badass dragon arch ploy.
so that means its a 5/5 stars!
Step 2. Abuse your damage output.
Step 3. ???
Step 4. GG
Just for fun, lets say you play her, Four Furnace of Rath, four Inquisitor's flail, Four Quest for Pure Flame and four Gratuitous Violence. (I know how impossible this all is, and I know that I could go further) Swing for 5*2^(17) = 655,360 Damage.
Her mana cost is
Or am I missing something?
This card is just awesome. Massive destructive power, but can be killed by any exile, sacrifice, and counter effect. It needs to be a bit harder to get on the field, tho. Turn seven is a death sentence when used in a WR deck. I use it within a WG deck with Cavern of Souls and Rampant Growth. works well, especially with my Craterhoof Behemoth. (oh dear god its evil when you pull off that combo)
4.5/5 ^_^
At first, her, Avacyn, and Griselbrand settled their dispute for the greater good of Kaalia, but they soon realized that the demon was just too powerful, and banned him from the format.
And no, it wasn't a banning community or WotC, it was the angels. 100% not a lie to make a cool story.
{W}{U}{B}{R}{G}{W}{U}{B}{R} with the least amount of jumps.
so it goes {R}-{W} not {W}--{R} same reason modern selesnyan colors are {G}{W} not {W}---{G}
Trolololololol
Just as I needed her, she appeared, as though summoned as a personification of deliverance... On the opponent's side of the field. Sure that the match would be over as soon as she attacked, my opponent ended his turn.
Equally sure that the match would be over as soon as she attacked, I played Traitorous Blood, and that lightning bolt... He threw his cards at me.
"Heads"
Heads:
"Yay! I get to deal 2 damage to something!"
Tails:
"Eh, nothing happens."
This card Is really only for pretty casual edh , wish I could play but everyone here uses they're legacy card pool for edh.
Unfortunately her first effect is a replacement effect, not a triggered one. It's basically saying "Take the normal amount of damage, and swap it out for a larger amount." same reason why the Resonator doesn't work with Doubling Season and friends.
@MostlyLost
Thanks!
Won me games then and still sits serving me as my commander now.
4/5
@vantha
I disagree.
Gisela
Archangel of Thune
Angel of Serenity
Razia
Angelic Skirmisher
Throw in some Assemble the Legions, Gleam of Battles, Path of Bravery, Cathars Crusades, Captain of the Watches, and other soliders like Tajic, Odric, and various Boros soliders and you have one of the most annoying decks in history!
Weaknesses: Control Decks, "Death at Turn 4" Decks
LONG LIVE THE LEGION!!!
5/5
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Heartless Hidetsugu enchanted with a lifelink ability in some way.
or throw in Pariah's Shield + Stuffy Doll +
Other double damage cards;
Furnace of Rath + Gratuitous Violence
SO MANY WIN CONDITIONS IN A GISELA EDH!!!! OVER 9000!!!
p.s. i love how aggressive r/w angels are.
her only real drawback is vulnerability to removal,
which can be compensated for with Lightning Greaves or the like.
She's incredibly flexible- she supports token swarm, goodstuff, combo, spellslinger, and voltron play styles.
For fun, add Hostility and cast Comet Storm-
A double-sized horde of 6/2 Hasted Elementals is likely to end the game rather quickly.
Also, I *really* want to run her with Mirror Gallery and Infinite Reflection,
just to make the game impossible to play without a calculator.
Also, Pyrohemia.
Brutal
