Miracle is as good as its normal casting cost. That said, both halves of this card are good and should see play.

One-sided boardwipes in red, and mono-red Commander?

This is the nuts. It can hit flyers. Not terrible at non-miracle cost for taking out anything up to 2T and MAYBE 3.

The cost isn't that expensive if you think about Bonfire's ideal targets. The only time you'd want to sweep the board is when there are many creatures, which often time are weenies with 1~2 toughness. Wildfire was a successful deck type utilizing heavy artifact mana and achieves 6+ mana by turn 2~4, the same could be applied here.

This card will see a ton of play. One sided board wipes are Uzra's days status. And in a burn deck, this card is just too good not to play.

This is an interesting one - I think it will basically be cast for its miracle cost whenever it can. There are few incentives to hold this card longer because it takes a lot of extra mana at most points to make more out of it and at the very least it's a Blaze on your opponent.

Cards like this give mono-red a way to turn the game around even when the other side has stabalized its position, especially if your lucky enough to draw it late game. Adds another huge element of luck though if your running these cards, not the amount of luck I'm sure is appropriate in a magic game.

Also this card is not strictly better then comet storm, in a multiplayer game you can kick comet storm to hit another player, you can't do that with this.

This card is sick, pulled it at the pre-release and it bailed me out so many times. The not miracle cost is still really good, best part is that it is splashable...

Not strictly better than Comet Storm in multiplayer, or because of the expensive non-miracle cost. However, it is still incredibly good.

Could someone explain why the miracle cost is better than the regular cost? I don't understand why paying 2 x's is not the same as paying just 1 x.

This is good enough to play without the miracle, though it wouldn't be mythic. It is NOT strictly better or worse than Comet Storm, it is strongest against a large number of small creatures, while comet storm is best against a few large targets.

The MIRACLE effect here is not as good as Entreat the Angels, but if you do MIRACLE! it, its still a nice effect. its a fireball plus, with a target all added in. this will basically wipe out a token or elf, or even sliver deck, if used properly.

also, don't forget to ponder.
Wormfang
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@NeroIV XX is worse because you pay X for each appearance in the cost. So for x= 2 the miracle costs 3 mana (2+R) and without miracle I'd pay 5 (2+2+R) (admitedly 5 mana for 2 dam to a dude and all his creatures is still good but nowhere near AS good.)

I am convinced this is the best miracle card... maybe entreat the angels? I don't think I will ever be unhappy to draw this, be it opening hand, turn eight or anywhere in between.

The best part about this card is the addition of the word each giving it a sweeping board effect. It's wildfire meets disintegrate or fireball.

Not terrible when played from the hand if you use it early on enough (x=2 would probably be the best point to cast it from hand, it gets too expensive from x=3+)

Amazing when played w/ miracle. 6 mana to burn opponent and all his creatures for 5? Yes please.

In limited, this has to be one of the most powerful cards ever printed. It wins you the game by burning them and clearing their blockers. Its a many-for-one. Its even splashable with the single {R} cost. I would never pass this card unless there was also a foil copy in the same pack.

In constructed, it breaks open board stalls in creature mirrors. Even if your opponent has creatures big enough to survive it, they will likely have so much residual damage marked on them that they won't be able to block your smaller creatures without trading. I expect at the very least to see this in sideboards against decks full of small creatures (which is almost all of them in standard at the moment).

Great art too. It looks like the Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War - complete with barbecued locust-zombies.

This card is broken in aggro vs. aggro. Giving aggro decks a one-sided wrath, even costing 5 to deal 2 damage, is huge. All mana dorks, huntmasters, tokens, geists... all dead with no repercusion on your side of the board. Even not-miracled, having or not having this card makes a huge difference, giving insane advantatge to those who can afford it.
So, what can I say? I hate broken mythic cards.

NOT strictly better than Comet Storm. When are people going to learn how to differentiate "better in almost every situation" from "strictly better," the latter of which, in a game with thousands upon thousands upon thousands of changing pieces, seldom occurs, and moreover only seems appropriate because you've failed to consider every possible scenario.

Just to give you a super cheesy counter example to your claim of strict superiority above, consider when you have a Swans of Bryn Argoll in play and could benefit greatly from the possibility of directing damage at your own creature. In an ideal version of the above scenario, Comet Storm would give you a grip of cards and have the exact same net damage effect on your opponent.

Even strict superiority claims for Lightning Bolt over Shock reflect ignorance. Consider the case where you have 3 life and a Near-Death Experience on the battlefield, with one Red at the end of your tapped-out-opponent's turn. A self Shock to the grill wins you the game during your upkeep, whereas a Lightning Bolt to your own dome would kill you outright.

Moral of the story: It's always more complicated than you would suspect at first glance, and in seemingly every case of ostensible strict superiority, a counter example can be cooked up which directly refutes your ultimately fallacious claim.

Reads title. Looks at picture.. Picks up Army of the damned, reads title. Looks at picture. LIGHTBULB! Ohhhhh ok.. Bonfire of the "DAMNED" lol, I get it! Hey, that was some pretty good thinking Wizards, thanks! :)

Ps- This bad boy sure does cost a lot (of $$$) for only being a 4.1! What's the deal? Is it the overall BEST rare in block?? Standard period?? There's nothing worth more at the moment so I take it that's a yes. Interesting.. I mean, I get it.. It's good, but.. Interesting.

First time this was used against me, it was Miracle'd, and I pretty much exclaimed "HOLY SH*T!!!" as I was destroyed.

I had so much of an advantage, than 8 damage to everything I had changed the game entirely.

If anyone has played with or against this card they should know that it's a 5/5, it would be absolutely broken if the miracle cost was normal but that's the point of Miracle cards, they're too good at their miracle cost but you might draw them at the wrong time or in your opening hand and then they cost more than they normally would. Part of the reason that this card is so expensive and will probably keep climbing until Mirrodin Blocks rotates is because at rotation almost every decent board wipe is leaving, there's planar cleansing and blasphemous act. Bonfire'll break 50 for sure if no good wipes are printed really quick in RTR

I top-decked this at FNM once while my opponent was at 16 life. I burned for 7 damage. Got it back with Noxious Revival and burned again for another 7. After he played a creature and passed the turn, I untapped my lands, drew a card, tapped one mountain and revealed Pillar of Flame. We were both laughing pretty hard.

This card is ok. X burn is ok if you have extra mana to spend but four lightning bolts will do twelve damage for four mana, even if it's only to one source. It's more important to knock out your opponent than wipe his board, unless you're gonna lose the next turn.

Bonfire is a strong card to play in any deck that features red. Even for it's non-miracle cost it can really help you keep your opponents side of the board cleared. I think we are going to continue seeing Bonfire played in Standard until it becomes illegal.

If you are having Bonfire played against you and you would like to have a way to combat it, then check out this article at mtgnoob.com

http://www.mtgnoob.com/2012/10/card-discussion-i-hate-bonfire.html

I think my favorite possible thing to do against a bonfire is to put down a Redirect and then a Reverberate on top of that. When the stack resolves you will have both Bonfires going off on your opponent instead of you.

Bonfire of the Damned is extremely good because you are burning one side of the board and you yourself go untouched. Typically with red, everyone gets burned but with this, your opponent will hate you. 5/5

Tremendously powerful card. If you miracle this with 4 mana out, in most cases you will destroy all your opponent's creatures. Against a fast red deck, that's enough to end the game then and there.

@Texasdice: Pay X twice. So if you have 7 mana, you can cast it for 3.

My local store isn't selling this card. This card is so good. It's only reason for low rating is because it was ridiculously expensive a few months back. It was at about $50 which is immense for a sorcery. But.. 5/5
Miracle Cost makes it even better. 4R for 2 damage. late-game, 9 mana for 8 damage (miracle). Easy win

This card is very good in Standard.

I am finding myself comparing it to Lavalanche, which I think I like a bit better if I don't consider the colour of the mana involved. Bonefire is better at killing x/1's, but it's starts to get worse when I need to kill x/3 creatures or better, unless you miracle it - then it's just better regardless.

I do like bonfire because it just requires a single red mana though, making it incredibly splashable, while Lavalanche has to be played in a Jund deck.

I think it's modern applications are much worse though, so price of the card is going to drop like crazy once it's out of standard. I just can't see how this deals with Tarmogoyf's and the like.

★★☆☆☆ (2.0/5.0) (1 vote)
A terrible card, definitely over-powered, doesn't need to build around it and can turn the game easily if you are lucky, so it only adds to the luck element of the game, in other words just stick a couple in there if you play red (and if you dont still you can splice some red) and hope... Not only it does wipe the board single sided, but also deals directly damage to the player, leaving little chance to respond, really really bad designed in any way
Opeth2010
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
"So powerful", and yet it sure can ruin a perfectly good opening hand. If I have just one in my deck, I will get it in my starting hand nearly every time :( This card is pretty useless unless you top-deck it. Nothing is more frustrating than wishing you could wipe the board against 'Humans' for 3 mana and you can't even kill a bunch of 1/1's because they have a stupid Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. It IS a game changer when everything "works out with it" though.

Something to point out is that you can't ramp it's miracle cost without instant speed effects (of which, most ramping spells are not.) You can't use Koth to make it huge or braid of fire. Most of the time you can't use mana echoes

It's a great card! But it is much harder to utilize as a finisher since it can't be pumped easily.
