I love this card. I guess I have a soft spot for auras that make creatures obscenely powerful. The recursion is just icing on the cake.

Ahh, the coming of M12 brings the return of an old shorthand: "dies" instead of "is sent to the graveyard from the battlefield". At least I think that's what "dies" implies.

I really want a playset of this. I wonder if it'll be too expensive. I guess it will, being so good and mythic and having replaced baneslayer. Sad, it would be the crowning jewel of my enchantment deck.
And the artwork looks a little bit like manga/anime.

That is some sexy artwork.

I would have liked this better as a type of equipment, but as an Aura it's okay as well.

So much for rarity not determining power. Serra's Embrace. From a set everyone already considers overpowered.

Not as unkillable as Rancor but certainly adds a lot of staying power to the creature you enchant. Increases of toughness and gaining first strike both make sure the creature can survive better in combat and against burn.

Let us take a moment of silence for our lost loved one, Baneslayer Angel.

Oh Baneslayer angel. How distraught I was to leave you in the sideboard. So vulnerable to the dirt and grime of Dismembers and go for the throat that wurmcoil engine easily evades. I often Pined for your mere presence, only to find it nowhere.
But when the mountains dropped, and the goblin Guides swung, I could smile and take solace that you, my precious Angel, would be there to fend off the aggressive and savage techniques of the red mage. When my opponent plays turn two Archdruid, You, my love, were there to fly far above the pits of the elves and safely strike a blow for the good guys. Oh, how I hardly knew thee. Often I swore at you, as my friends would use you to kill my time after time after time. But the tides had turned, and you have taken down more games for me than I could ever hope for.

Baneslayer Angel, I love you.

As for this here Aura, Green White Aggro, Thrun FTW.

Not a replacement for Baneslayer. Find a 1/1 creature with lifelink and pro dragons / demons for 1 mana then we'll talk. After all that you have to protect your new investment from all the destroy / exile enchantment cards around. Beautiful art, needs flavor though. 3.0/5

About on par with Armored Ascension, power wise (seriously, unless you stick this on a 1/1, how many situations are going to call for your 6/6 or 7/7 flyer to be frist striking something on turn 4 or 5?).

The bounce back to your hand effect is the kicker. You can build a deck that's cheap-creature heavy, run 4 of these and fling them around all day. Good stuff.

Best Moment of M12 Prerelease:
Against a {U}{W} control deck
Turn 2: Plains {T} -> Stormfront Pegasus
Turn 3: Swing, drop a Lurking Crocodile with bloodthirst
Turn 4: Cast Angelic Destiny, targeting Lurking Crocodile, giving me an unblockable 6/6 flying, first strike Angel Crocodile.

Angel. Crocodile.

And I don't get what's wrong with this card. I cannot find anything bad about it... Auras are card disadvantage because it's 2 cards dying when the creature does, but this one doesn't!

@made4ipod - How could you not name Rancor as a playable Aura? It was only the highest rated Magic card for a couple years. And Freed from the Real is simply absurd if not purely due to all of the infinite combos that it can potentially run. I have the feeling you didn't look very hard for Auras if all you could name was this and Splinter Twin.

Although yes, this card is certainly playable if you run a deck that supports high costing Auras. With the change in the meta this card could potentially become very fun in a Standard environment.

Looks like Wizards are finally making enchantments good. The previous method put all your eggs in one very fragile basket, which was susceptible to well placed kill spells - this seems to be an attempt to fix that. And WHAT A FIX if I do say so myself.

This is probably obvious considering the quality of the artwork on this card, but you really should take a minute or two to ogle the foil version of this if you ever get to see it. It's absolutely immaculate. It makes the card feel like it really is Angelic.

Batterskull and Angelic Destiny combination. The result?

+8/+8
Flying, First Strike, Vigilance, Lifelink
Both can return to the hand (well, Batterskull's an equip, so it doesn't need to unless you need a Germ)

This card pretty much sums up its effectiveness on the battelfield enabling any whiny into a formidable opponent.

Do beware that CreatureEnchantment are vulneable and became utterly useless when it comes to face Blue Spells, and not even need counterspells to be Unsummoned, Disintergrated, or get sent IntoTheRoil.

Considering Enchantment history, the CC should be something more like:

+4/+4 = 3
Flying, First Strike = 2
Angel tribal = 0.5
Recurrence = 2

Should be something around a 7 or 8, to be a "normal" enchantment. But the fact that they made this roughly half of that is a very good sign, and gives hope for the future of the ever-downtrodden enchantment.

The art concept and execution are phenominal. She would look fragile except for the determination on her face. The stained glass windows behind her DO look fragile though. The shot is taken from ground level, complete with out-of-focus flowers, and the wings on the window behind her frame her beautifully.
what better way to show a fearsome opponent, with a major chink in her armor?

Big white Rancor. Yawn. Are you guys forgetting about Lightning Bolt, Journey to Nowhere, Condemn, Dismember, Oblivion Ring, Red Sun's Zenith, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, Into the Roil, Combust and Dispatch? That's just the reactive stuff that mops up the creature and may prevent Angelic Destiny's final ability from triggering. People might happen to play good cards like those.

Or Duress? A competent player plays spells that just shut down this garbage.

If you can splash enough hexproof guys and resolve this and/or those creatures through the countermagic flying around these days, good for you.
Anon_Amarth
★★★☆☆ (3.5/5.0) (3 votes)
The main difference between this and other bouncing enchantments like rancor is that rancor returns to your hand if it was destroyed itself, or if the creature died. Angelic destiny reads "If enchanted creature would die" So if it gets exiled, shuffled or bounced, you still lose your angelic destiny. I couldn't have been the only one to notice this, but I had not seen anyone else point it out. That does not stop this card from fitting flavourfully, functionally and themeatically into the mythic slot, it's just interesting to note. I still love this card and would love a couple more.

Turning any 1/1 into a 5/5 flyer with first strike on turn 4 does sound appealing, and if that 1/1 happens to be a nip gwyllion or a serra ascendant, you've got yourself a virtual baneslayer angel, with pseudo-haste because the creature's been under your control for a turn already.

This card makes virtually any creature into a powerful combatant, and for some creatures it turns them into absolute monsters. I do like seeing a hearthfire hobgoblin or mirran crusader swing for 12 damage in the air on turn four, or 14 if honor of the pure dropped on turn 2.

Though, in a lot of ways, I feel that I prefer using Elspeth, Knight-errant's ability to give +3/+3 and flying over this card (and they both have the same mana cost), since there's less of a chance to lose card advantage, she has other options, and you can switch the bonus to another creature each turn. And, of course, baneslayer is just a superior card because for one more mana you get a free creature with lifelink attached to this aura. Of course, those two cards can be considered two of the strongest white cards ever printed, so comparing this to them isn't really all that fair.

For another comparison, take a look at divine transformation, and you can sort of see why this card is pretty powerful.

Does an amazing job with Mirran Crusader.

It fits very well in a white enchantment deck playing Mesa Enchantress. Did somebody say enchantments and auras = card disadvantage? She'll fix that for you.

It can be surprisingly fun against agro decks right after playing a Timely Reinforcements that grants lives and tokens. Appreciate the look on your opponent's face as you transform each 1/1 white soldier token into 5/5 flying first strike white angel soldier, one after the other!

The artwork is gorgeous.

Let's try to look at this in non-bias faction for a sec and while doing so, cover 3 points, A. Is it worth the investment? B. Is it a "Myth" or a "Mythic". And C. Is it Better, equal to or worse than Baneslayer? Here goes my opinion on the 3 questions starting with..

A. WORTH the investment? Well.. Depends on how you came across your copy(s). Did you buy a booster box and get your 2-4 copies thattaway? If so, my answer is, YES! Absolutely worth the investment. Let's say you did not buy a Booster box.. Right now the LEAST you could pay for 1 single copy is roughly $18-$20. Depending on how many copies you intend to play with, you're looking at a min of $40 for 2 and a max of $80 for 4. Keep in mind that Baneslayers are now available for as low as $5!! With that in mind, I would conclude A. Would be a Yes and No answer. All smiles if my playset came in a booster box, but not chance it's worth $40-$80 with cheaper options that are ARGUABLY better.

B. Is it a "Myth" or "Mythic"? Without the re-use ability, I would've said: absolutely NOT. Because it's an aura. As an equipment, I'd say yes with or without reccursion. As an aura, it desperately needed that functionality. All in all, I'd say hit on the "Mythic" side.

C. Is it better than, equal to or worse than Baneslayer? Let's look at the differences.. Baneslayers cmc is +1, but for that +1 you get: lifelink, protection from Demons AND Dragons, an actual creature who's destiny is Angelic and is +1/+1 that of Angelic Destiny's pump to boot! Not to forget, purchasing the Angel as opposed to the Aura will save you nearly $15.00.. and that's $15 per copy.. Ok, but Angelic Destiny gets returned to your hand for re-use!! Ahh.. True. Who here has played w/Baneslayer? Anyone? Everyone? I have. Many times. And here's the thing, by itself it has 0 ways to re-use itself, but is it REALLY necessary? I played w/2 in my Holy Hit! deck (shut up..) lol, and if I had to give a percentage of times in which I actually would have needed her to reoccur to win the game, I'd say 10% TOPPS y'all.., My opp was able to rid the field of her occasionally, nothing's ever guaranteed.. but usually, she came to win the fight and wasn't going anywhere. She has staying power. But Angelic Destiny has -1 to the cmc which means you can throw it on your 2/2 by t4, MAYBE even t3 which is a full turn ahead of Baneslayer!! Good point. Solid advantage. But.. How does the card advantage look right now? Instead of having a 2/2 and a 5/5, or a solid equipment (Sword of whatever) and a 5/5 to put it on, you have just 1 6/6. This part is very debatable, but in the end, I think the 1 cmc higher, $15/card cheaper, added lifelink, pro demon/dragon Baneslayer is better than the 1 cmc less enchant creature/aura that is re-usable for $15 more/copy, Angelic Destiny. Personally, I LOVE both, but like anything else, 1 is going to eventually stand taller through the test of time and if I were betting man, Baneslayer will almost always be the better option of the 2.

Your thoughts..?

It's OK, I'd rather have Vigilance as it fits with the theme of the angels, and it would be better if it had the same wording as rancor or the other enchants from the Saga block that came back to your hand when they hit the graveyard...then pairing it with the Umbra mystic would be even more insane.

@solitarysolidarity...i'm pretty sure the enchanment would die. it's basically a replacement effect. the enchantment is now being destroyed rather than the creature.

Bounce, & Exile still 2 for 1 this card, and those are commonly found in spike's arsenal. If this wants to be competitive, it needs "When enchanted creature leaves play". That is a great way to balance Rancor. Its still hard to deal with, but at least it does not hose Naturalize.

In the future, all auras should be given "When enchanted creature leaves play", or else they will sit in the trash pile.

Turn 3 Mirran Crusader, then enchant it with this on the following turn, you're swinging with a 6/6 flying, doublestrike, protection from black and green on turn 4. That's not even counting any exalted bonuses you might have. This card is beastly (And so is the Crusader).

Wizards could print an aura with "Enchanted creature gets +8/+8, flying, first strike, vigilance, trample, lifelink, landwalk, deathtouch, and intimidate" for the low low cost of 2WhiteWhite ...and still nobody would play it in constructed.

Rare buff auras either need to go the way of the dodo bird, or come standardized with "if this card would be put into your graveyard, return it to your hand instead" -- markedly different from equipment, but still recursive. They're great in limited, but giving precious mythic rare space to this spoils its potential there.

@krispyz: "dies" means put into the graveyard from the battlefield. exiling doesn't cause it to die, neither does dicarding or something like Entomb. I know, because I was once looking to abuse some Arcbound creatures with Splinter Twin.

@the card itself... wow. the ability for awesome typebars is unlimited. "creature-Wombat angel." *peter griffin giggle* "wombat angel"

and oh yeah, the amazing PT boost, flying first strike, recurrence. That's more for your money since Baneslayer Angel, which is odd because that's practically what you get when you have this on a creature.
