disentomb
but that's about as obvious as you can get

This is what makes Reanimate deck so brutal to play against. You can get out turn two fatty before your opponent can react, especially if you use cards like Iona or Jin-Gitaxias to shut down your opponent for pretty much the rest of the game.

I just paid 30 bucks for an Entomb.

And 5 bucks for a bunch of other cards.

My Graveborn just came today. I've been playing reanimator for a while and now I'm giddy I got me an Entomb.

It's almost necessary to get a Dark Ritual and put it into this deck...

If you have easy access to your graveyard (and you should, you're playing with Swamps), this is half-cost, instant speed Demonic Tutor for a creature that is going to pimp-slap your opponent when you resolve Animate Dead, Reanimate, Exhume, or Diabolic Servitude later in the turn.

I actually like Brockdjwest's idea of putting Entomb and Disentomb together :)
It's kind of poetic, and still quite powerful: Essentially Demonic Tutor with an extra 'discard a card' rider.
A 'dumbed down' version of Reanimator COULD be fun to play in a casual setting?

There's also a small case to be made that simply building in variance, like a 3-1 split Exhume/Disentomb, is a way to play against Meddling Mage/Thought Hemorrhage/Surgical Extraction/Cranial Extraction/Runed Halo and similar cards that are supposed to silver bullet an opponent's combo pieces. It won't come up a lot, but it would kind of just plain suck if you managed to set up Entomb and Buried Alive to have the perfect set of creatures in your graveyard, then your opponent stole away all the cards you had to get them back out.

The min-max version of the deck is already known- I find thinking about unusual ways to build decks interesting, and the advantage of confusing your opponents by playing cards they don't expect could actually swing the game in your favor in a tight spot. Another reason to do it that way is to preserve the identity of Magic: people who talked about the skill testing nature of Caw-Blade vs. Caw Blade and tried to argue about how interesting it was were missing the point that they were basically playing Black vs White Chess. Chess IS an interesting, fun, skill-testing, complex game. But it's not MAGIC. Caw Blade vs. Caw Blade was not MAGIC either.

On the topic of variance AND poetics, I am going to try and acquire the Duels of the Planeswalkers Promo Grave Titan, because I think he would be a pretty snazzy beast for this deck. ^^
When you're talking about turn 2 summons, I prefer beaters to controllers: might as well end the game as quickly as possible, and reduce the number of turns your opponent has to play without any hope.

The only reason I bought Graveborn was for cards for an EDH deck.

Then again, I also only bought Graveborn because of this card.

I think it was money well spent.

It doesn't even have to be a creature. AND this card is an instant. Absolutely amazing, and definitely one of the top tier black spells in Magic.

@ pedrodyl

Or Songs of the Damned for that matter.

Dark Ritual is too much of a ***. Songs hasn't seen the light of day since the 90s, and I think it deserved at least one reprint. Unfortunately, Wizards probably thought that this deck was already amazing enough...

Bought a play set of these back when they were $3 each (the Odyssey version). Thought I paid too much. Turned out to be a good investment.

Avacyn Restored has at least three creatures in it that are candidates for a top-tier Reanimator deck, and they've only spoiled about 20% of the set so far.

One's an 8/8 with "Permanents you control are indestructible." And flying, and vigilance.

ohgod ohgod ohgodohgodohgod. That $30 + $5 you paid for Entomb + otherstuff is going to be one of the soundest investments you've ever made... at least until they re-ban Entomb or Reanimate in Legacy.

I was never able to afford a playset of this card. Now I can have a foil playset for the cost of one non-foil OD entomb. Excellent.

An instant tutor for any card (to be put into the graveyard, perfect for reanimator decks), at the cost of 1 black mana is just insane. One of my favorite cards.

5/5 for great art and amazing power.

@ TimmyForever: If you happened to look at DacenOctavio's comment, you'd see all the autocarded cards besides Swamp are ones that work with this card. The strategy of "reanimator" is to get a creature card into your graveyard, then Reanimate it. It doesn't "harm" yourself, it wins.

you say Jin Gitaxias, I'd say Vorinclex screws then over almost as much and gives you major beatdown to end the game fast.

A good example of a card that isn't good by itself, but very good for some deck. It not every deck that will need this. You will not use it in a Fish deck, or a Enchantress deck.

But in a dedicated deck (Reanimation, Incarnation), you will just disgust your opponent. Having a creature in the grave in the first turn gives you an enormous advantage.

I always used this to put Lightning Greaves in my yard, so I could reanimate Sun Titan and get back Daring Apprentice.

Edit: Why the freaking troll rating???????

Here's another reason entomb is such an awesome card:

Entomb. Bin your cabal therapy, sacrifice what is most likely a putrid imp and flash it back naming any threat. Then Entomb again FTW

God, I love this card. It just doesn't get any more black than that.

@TimmyForever: It's a combo card. Oh wait— you're Timmy, not Johnny. That must be why you don't understand.

@timmyforever Of course you don't. You need at least a brain stem to see how this is in any way a good card.

Fun fact: Says "card", not "creature card". You're quite within your rights to Entomb Unburial Rites.

Why are so many people's combos not hitting until turn 2? You guys should run Dark Ritual.
