I will personally NEVER play this with curse of exhaustion/rule of law/arcane laboratory.

I don't want to play this to lock people out of the game. I want to play this to cause MASSIVE MAYHEM!

Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded into Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker \...

You must be kidding me... a card that makes him playable in the least little bit?

9 time out of 10 you'll just get another tibalt

I see this as another cheap way to get Omniscience onto the battlefield. Play this, then play a cheap enchantment and hope for the luck of the draw. It's not the best method for it but it creates some great drama.

This'll make control players paranoid. Pity you can counter the 'replacing' card since that's also being cast.

4 of these
4 Pillars of flame, 4 Worldfires (sorceries = win con)
4 legion loyalist, 4 lightning maulers, + 4-8 of your favorite dragons.
fill in the rest with whatever burn control you want. I feel an obligation to make that deck for the lolz.
this card will ruin whatever well-layed plans your opponent had (hey, feel like casting something randomly from your deck?)
and once you get this out, pillar of flame and try to hit a world fire. or legion loyalist to hit a dragon. everything else instant to keep the board clear until t5/6.

Oh, the places you'll go!

Get 1x Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded and 1x Grim Discovery (or any other 2CMC Sorcery that's in Grixis Colors). Then, get 4x Dimir Infiltrator, Muddle the Mixture, and 4x Shred Memory: these are 2CMC cards with Transmute, so they can be used as tutors for your Tibalt/Grim Discovery.
Then put in 1x Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, 1x Sorin Markov, 1x Karn Liberated... Basically all the good planeswalkers that can win the game for you relatively quickly upon being put into play.
Also put in a few copies of Time Stretch, Cruel Ultimatum, Sorin's Vengeance, maybe Violent Ultimatum to deal with Leyline of Sanctity etc. Remember, if your sorcery has no valid targets when you reveal it, you can choose not to cast it and it'll go back into your library rather than going into your graveyard.
For artifacts, just put in some cheap cantrips like Chromatic Star or Conjurer's Bauble. A few copies of this should be your deck's only enchantments.
As soon as this hits the field, your opponent shouldn't live to see the next turn. A Tibalt or a Grim Discovery will get you a bomb that's pretty much a win condition, and then the Tibalt/Grim Discovery goes back into your library for your Transmute cards to fetch again.

If you're afraid of running out of cards (maybe you happened to draw all the cards you'd want to hit with this), you can put in a few Time Reversals.

I like cards like this. This will be fun to exploit.

Important to read is that it says "from your hand". Flashback will dodge this card, as do cards played from cascading, or copies from storm. This card especially wants to be played with the descendant of soratami or a scroll rack to manipulate your polymorph effect!

Giving this a 5/5 if only because if you get it and Confusion in the Ranks on the field at the same time you will completely destroy any ones ability to predict how the game will flow. And if you somehow manage to also get Grip of Chaos going as well. Well I don't imagine many will want to continue the game when EVERYTHING is random.

So what happens if a person who has no others of that spell type in their library to cast?

Say I have only two instants and i already cast the other one and its in my graveyard.
I cast the second one and start exiling cards but have no other instants to cast so i exile my entire library without casting a second card. Does nothing get cast and everything is shuffled, or does everything stay exiled and my library is empty?

One thing that I'm surprised that no one has mentioned (or maybe it doesn't work this way) but run possibility storm with Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
. Someone casts a non-creature spell. Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
abbility triggers when a player casts that spell. Then they exile that spell and play another non-creature spell. Right There is 12 damage. Am I getting this strait?

Melek, Izzet Paragon has some wonderful synergy with this.

Spells you cast from your library aren't affected, and he lets you know whether you'll get good value from expensive spells you cast from your hand.
Melek reveals a land you don't need? Play a spell from your hand.

Meanwhile, your opponent is left playing blind.

My favorite thing about this card is how it was designed for Izzet in terms of flavor and playability, but it works so magnificently in a Gruul deck.
Imagine, a 2-headed giant team consisting of a mana ramp deck with this sort of card, to get it out in the first couple turns, and a creature deck with half one-mana creatures and half 6+ mana creatures.
Each turn, the creature deck plays a one mana creature, but then it turns into a game-ending 7 mana creature. The mana ramp deck just stalls.
Rinse and repeat.

Strange question:
What would happen if, using this, you play a spell and, in response to having to exile it, you consume it with Nivmagus Elemental?

Would you still even get the Possibility Storm effect of getting a new randomized spell? Furthermore, if you exile it with Nivmagus, does it end up exiled with him or PS (putting it back in your deck).

If any of this is possible, some serious nastiness could be possible with foddering instants and sorceries.

Already made a ridiculously overpowered deck with this (hint: the important part is the overlooked mill-exile effect, and your ability to respond to the replacement spell). Assuming people figure it out, this card is close to broken.

So the judges at my local shop swear that the third ruling is wrong....that WHENEVER is a replacement effect and only one of those can be used per spell so another THIS exiled spell doesnt trigger the other THIS or somthing like that....its darn confusing cause I so want those guys to be WRONG.

Also there isnt a mill effect here I dont think Nirvana one of the aforementioned dudes already tried it....everything goes back on the bottom....

We all could be wrong....this is a complex spell....

Have a Research in hand, an ornithopter, 1 cmc sorceries or instants, and this in hand. Selective Memory yourself to remove everything you can. Research oh let's say a Blightsteel Colossus or fun things likeInferno. Play Possibility Storm and ornithopter into Blightsteel. Pulled this off with Melek, Izzet Paragon on the field. I still lost, but my friend could not figure out what I was doing!

Does the second spell ( the one you get to cast for free ) get put into the graveyard? Or does it get shuffled to the bottom of the library along with everything else?
Aquillion
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Ferlord: Unfortunately, the second spell they cast is cast normally from exile, which means that when it resolves it goes into their graveyard rather than staying exiled. Snapcaster Mage can then target that.

The obligatory red Johnny card, and I love it. :) I played against a younger player who ran this in his DGR draft deck, and it was hilarious. It didn't do him any good, but we had a blast while it was out. Heh .. literally? One time I cast an instant of some kind and flipped Blast of Genius ... as the second-to-last card in my library.

I thought maybe you could do something silly with this and Knowledge Pool, but I don't think it's quite as goofy as I thought it might be.

But yeah, playing this with Curse of Exhaustion is kind of a jerk thing to do, but it works pretty well, doesn't it?

Ah, the possibilities... :3

I had one epic EDH game where this became my saving grace.

On the field, I had Grip of Chaos, Ensnaring Bridge, and Timesifter out. As the game went on, it became very clear that none of those permanents were going to die.

See, my friend had a Naturalize in his hand soon after I played these three. He, unlike me and my other friend, had very low-CMC spells. So out of the 20 or so TImesifter turns, he only had 2. He became quickly frustrated since he couldn't stop this.

Every time one of us played a spell, it would go to the Possibility Storm. One of them played a Blue Sun's Zenith for 0 and got Reins of Power (which did nothing important). I played a No Mercy which turned into a Bloodchief Ascension. Regardless of he amount of turns we all got, almost nothing productive happened. A shame that one of them Storm'd into a Rest in Peace.

In the end, I storm'd into an Apocalypse, which resulted in a mutual surrender.

Dear god, an aspect of this card that is not getting enough attention is how hard it is to destroy.
"Don't worry, I'll naturalize this thing immediately! Oh bollocks, it appears my naturalize turned into a lightning bolt/(any instant in your deck) as I was casting it, we might have a problem here."
Play in EDH at your own risk, as it might really make people dislike you for turning their elaborate strategy game into ocmplete chaos.
Any combos you make with this you have to set up before you cast this, otherwise your long term plans or likewise spell will turn into something else.
It is one of the most chaotic cards ever printed, think twice before you throw it into a deck, as it can pretty much single handedly turn the game into a very random thing where strategy goes out the window, but if you're one of those disruption loving Johnnies/ Random loving Timmies, this card should make you drool.

Possibility Storm is my favorite card in Standard, mostly because dropping it infuriates everyone. Mostly played in Izzet decks, consider a heavily creature based Gruul deck and you'll be popping 8 drops out instead of Elves in no time.

If you cast a creature card with flash during combat, triggering possibility storm, then end up exiling a creature card that does not have flash, are you still allowed to cast it? It says "cast that card without paying it's mana cost", it doesn't say "put it into play", and it certainly doesn't say anything about being allowed to play the card even if you couldn't legally cast it.

Of course, there might be some rule I dot know about that makes this clear.

Edit:
i now run hunting pack with possibility storm, in a moment's peace turbo fog stompy deck. even if hunting pack gets exiled, i still get all those storm copies. magnificent. and even if moment's peace gets exiled from flashback, possibility storm pulls out another card and shuffles moment's peace back into the deck. fantastic. it works well because if i'm not pulling out one of the 3 copies of moment's peace from the possibility storm, then i get either the one copy of hunting pack or the one copy of mages' contest. Mages' contest works so well to stop even the most trivial of threats, like rest in peace after i've stormed from a Sakura-Tribe Elder (plenty of mana ramp, e.g. civic wayfinder, yavimaya elder) into a Pelakka Wurm and offset the life bidding. With burn cards like Devil's Play sucking a lot of damage out of your opponent with a mage's contest might be worth it without the storm there yet, plus i have hull breach to stop the storm if need be.

Edit:
@jonrds
It works. The fact that the inital creature had flash is the only stipulation for playing a creature at that point. When the creature triggers possibility storm, the storm ignores the fact that it's a creature (aside from you finding one from the top cards of your deck) and pays attention to only the fact that you were able to play a spell in the first place. Think about what happens if you counter a creature spell with Guile. It's kinda similar. Kinda... maybe not really....

Infinite Reflection your best creature then play this to get them whilst your opponent gets random stuff.
Edit 2: still thinking about this one... Edit 3: 24/Sept/2013 for EDH combos with Primeval Bounty every creature spell could give 2x 3/3 Beast tokens and every non-creature spell gives you 6 +1/+1 counters! :)

This can be bypassed with cards like Future Sight that allow you to play the top card of your library and cards with flashback or can be played from your graveyard/any zone other than your hand as it won't trigger Possibility Storm.

@Ansem717 : If the Forced Fruition's effect resolves before Possibility Storm's effect then the player draws 7, then resolves Possibility Storm's effect. Then, after the second spell is put on the stack, a second trigger for Forced Fruition is put on the stack forcing the player to draw 7 more cards. New Forced Fruition triggers cannot be resolved until the current effect is completely resolved which means the exiled cards will have been put back into the library.

The two possible orders for the effects are:

Player casts initial spell
---
Possibility Storm trigger
Forced Fruition trigger
---
Possibility Storm trigger
Forced Fruition resolves, player draws 7 cards
---
Possibility Storm resolves, player casts a spell off Possibility Storm
---
Player's spell off Possibility Storm
Forced Fruition trigger
---
Player's spell off Possibility Storm
Forced Fuition resolves, player draws 7 cards
---
Player's spell off Possibility Storm resolves
----

Or

Player casts initial spell
---
Forced Fruition trigger
Possibility Storm trigger
---
Forced Fruition trigger
Possibility Storm resolves, player casts a spell off Possibility Storm
---
Forced Fruition trigger
Player's spell off Possibility Storm
Forced Fruition trigger
---
Forced Fruition trigger
Player's spell off Possibility Storm
Forced Fuition resolves, player draws 7 cards
---
Forced Fruition trigger
Player's spell off Possibility Storm resolves
----
Forced Fruition resolves, player draws 7 cards

In addition to being as fun as anything, this card can actually be played fairly competitively if you build your deck right.

Certain cards will benefit from you casting spells, regardless of whether or not they resolve, so having this out will essentially get you a double effect for them. As Rootkit9208 already said, Nivix Cyclops and Guttersnipe and Talrand, Sky Summoner are all very powerful with Possibility Storm on the field, but there are even more options available. Young Pyromancer and Door of Destinies, for example.

Outside of the Izzet Guild, you can play Possibility Storm with the Orzhov in order to get more extortion opportunities. This helps the Orzhov a lot, because Black/White doesn't have a huge amount of draw power in Standard at the moment.

Dimir's infamous Consuming Aberration can also get double triggers if you feel like playing Grixis Mill, although there's admittedly little else for the Dimir to gain from this card.

If guilds aren't your thing, Theros' Heroic mechanic triggers whenever a creature is targeted by a spell you cast, the spell doesn't even need to resolve. And remember, your second spell is likely to be Heroic-compatible too, since it'll have to share a type with the first spell.

Beyond all of this, there's always the chance that you'll simply gain tempo by playing expensive spells outside of your mana range.

...holy that was a lot. Has there ever been a better named card in all of Magic?

Possibility Storm, indeed o_o

How does this work with Forced Fruition? So let's say my opponent has only two Artifacts in her deck. One is in her hand, and the other is the last card in her library. How does the scenario play out if she casts the one in her hand?

1) She casts the artifact in her hand. Forced Fruition resolves before Storm, so she draws 7 cards. Then she exiles cards from the top of her library until she finds the other artifact, at the bottom of the deck. She casts that artifact and, before Possibility Storm finishes resolving, she draws 7 cards to Forced Fruition and looses (Since her library is currently exiled).

2) She casts the artifact in her hand. Forced Fruition resolves before Storm, so she draws 7 cards. Then she exiles cards from the top of her library until she finds the other artifact, at the bottom of the deck. She casts that artifact, and since she's casting a spell in the middle of the resolution of another ability, Forced Fruition will wait until Possibility Storm is done. Her artifact enters the battlefield, she shuffles her exiled cards to the bottom of her library, and then she draws 7 cards, without losing.

Does these two scenarios make sense? I'm just wondering which one of the two enchantments (Possibility Storm, and Forced Fruition) resolve first due to Possibility Storm allowing a player to "cast" a spell in the middle of the resolution.

@Guest1162...: Thanks!

So - I have to ask a question.
With Possibility Storm in play, all of Player B's instants being counterspells:
Player A: Storm Crow
Player B: Cryptic Command

(Stack (top to bottom): Possibility Command, Cryptic Command, Possibility Crow, Storm Crow)
Will the Possibility Crow resolve into a Tentacle Ice Berg, after the Possibility Command counters Storm Crow? Or will the Possibility Crow fizzle?

Also, hilarity combo with Hive Mind.

I'm about to try this out in my Ruric Thar EDH deck. Cast this turn 3-4 with some mana accel, next turn slap Ruric onto the field (since he was cast from the Commander Zone, Possibility Storm's ability doesn't trigger).

Players get punched in the face for 6 when they cast their noncreature spells, and chances are they'll reveal something that they wouldn't want to cast right away. And if they do cast the revealed spell, they get another 6 damage! Beautiful.
