I think he's reminiscent of Guttersnipe, except he doesn't scream KILL ME NOW quite as loud. And I always approve of having free blockers in an Izzet deck.

Sir Eton John here is awesome
wonder if a standard deck with him and Guttersnipe would work

Some people--some very intelligent and well-respected people--have predicted that Pyro here could be Legacy playable. With all due respect to Evan Erwin, Matt Nass, Caleb Durwald, and PV, I just don't see it. Free dudes with every spell is exciting, but 1/1s don't seem to represent the kind of meaningful advantage that Dark Confidant, Stoneforge Mystic, Snapcaster Mage, and Tarmogoyf all bring to the table. Maybe I'm crazy. These guys really really know the older formats better than I do and I'm very likely underestimating the effect because I tend to underestimate how many spells top-tier decks tend to play. Time will tell.

That being said, this card is exciting because he brings a form of repeatable advantage that the average red deck simply doesn't see. That, all by itself, makes him a creature to watch in the upcoming standard format.

Not bad in a dedicated counterburn deck.

Interestingly enough, the more of these you have in your deck, the less effective they become, since you reduce the number of slots for instants and sorceries that way.

Suddenly a card like Dragonshift makes a bit more sense.

Solid card here. The art is absolutely awful though.

Oh my! A very powerful uncommon; may possibly define a deck archtype with that significant card advantage it generates. Lots of support for red burn coming up!

This is the kind of creature you want to have in a burn deck. If he is not killed immediately, he will swarm the field... for free!

If Magic has taught us anything, it is to watch for 2/1 creatures with strange abilities. I see this fitting into control as a creature that allows your cantrips to BLOCK. The sheer tempo stopping, combo enabling, overrun threatening power makes this a card to kill or lose to.

Well, they need to protect their eyes from the sparks somehow, don't they?

After a hard day of launching counterspells the Izzet player now gets to sit back and relish the hundreds of chump blockers he or she now possesses. Hope one of those counterspells stopped an Illness in the Ranks.

This is scary; a good effect on an uncommon that synergizes well with burn strategies and aggro. I think that this will see play. Definitely a limited force to be reckoned with. 4.5/5

This is my favorite card of the set, hands down. Great design, perfectly costed and balanced. Art is sick, and so is the flavor text. To anyone who didn't know:

im·mo·late
1. To kill as a sacrifice.
2. To kill (oneself) by fire.
3. To destroy.

5/5 for a literally perfect card.

This is a really nice card, along with Guttersnipe. I don't think he has the raw power to make it into constructed, but he'll definitely be a big thing in many casual Izzet decks.

If you look closely, the pendant on his necklace is a portrait of Chandra.
He's a very awkward-looking fella. But, dang, he knows how to kick some ass.

I wanna try him and Ogre Battledriver with some spell that make tokens or give first strike, may be too slow but i feel there could be a fun deck in there

You've gotta love how that one extra point of power tells you exactly what kind of a deck this belongs in.

On a side note, the sheer fact that this kid isn't legendary (Talrand, Sky Summoner) means that I'll feel a lot better about dropping four of him into any deck I make. The idea of having multiple Young Pyromancers out at the same time is pretty sweet.

Between being a 2-drop and only requiring one red mana, it's pretty clear that this kid is going to see a lot of action in a lot of different decks. Exciting stuff.

This guy... I'm going to use in him in my casual/legacy (if a potential 3 turn millout counts as such) storm deck, possibly replacing storm entity's. This guy, if I run out of spells, will give me creatures to play with for a little while until I can start casting more and drawing. 5/5 for power right here

A wonderful new tool for a Dragonstorm deck.

(while still standard)
T1: Steamvents/Island --> Delver of Secrets
T2: Sulfur Falls/Mountain ---> Young Pyromancer (possibly flipped Delver)
T3: Any land ---> Gutter Snipe
T4 --- T8: Izzet Control, and they'll die eventually.
(downpours, flames of the firebrand, your choice of 2 cost counterspells, shocks, turn//burn, etc etc)

I can't imagine a better mana curve than those 3 creatures.
gunna go wreck face tonight at fnm.

Stolen Identities and Invisible stalker work wonderfully with this kid.

I was able to make 35 elementals in 2 turns, (5 & 6).

gives me total board position, to chump block any counter attack, then next turn swarm!!!

Thalia's good and all....but she's more like Knight of the Reliquary or Gaddock Teeg good. The OTHERS you named, are closer to MASTICORE good.

See Deep Analysis (not the Nicol Bolas one).

Masticore-Good means ''the subject appears to be broken". Wizards is deliberately in a mindset to try to NOT make such cards. And it's really hard to accidentally make ACTUALLY Broken cards for Red. We simply won't see this cycle completed. We simply won't.

STONEFORGE MYSTIC is your White Lady. The cards of the Power Pikers have to all be cards you would say should be *considered* for BANNING IN LEGACY because of how Broken they are. Not necessarily ACTUALLY banned, but that the conversation is a fair one to have. Thalia just does not qualify, and Stoneforge Mystic just does.

Goblin Recruiter is the closest Red will ever have to anything like the POWER PIKERS. THAT'S how good you have to be, to be counted as a "BAH-ROH-KEN TWO-DROP".

Great card if it stays on the board... I can see this landing a solid place in some constructed decks. A mini Talrand, Sky Summoner without Legendary so you can run 4 of them, get them out sooner, and use their ability as soon as it hits the table.

The artwork is nice, the flavour text fits. Simple, well designed card and very playable. The kind I like to see.

Bone splinters and infernal plunge would go great with his ability to make tokens.

I love this in my legacy burn deck. It slows down the board enough so I can do my work. I find that a lot of options for red creatures in burn are useless if you draw more than 1. Young Pyro is not too shabby in multiples. Even though I think it is more efficient in a Delver deck, it is so fun to see this card get to work.

I bought four the second I saw it. solid 4.5/5
