My Burning Vengeance deck plays essentially zero creatures so when my opponent sides out creature removal for enchantment hate... ta da!

A new all-star for, burn decks, counter-burn, and it's 100% relevant in multiplayer to boot. I love this little guy.

This is one of the best uncommons in the set and pros like me have also noticed that he is a goblin which is a very viable tribe.

Curves nicely out of a second turn Goblin Electromancer and straight into some shenanigans turn four.

I don't see how anyone could rate this below a 4. Gets a solid 4.5 from me. This card wins games.

How is this guy not rated at above 4?!! He's a goblin, he's amazing in any heavy instant/sorcery deck, he'll probably be a big player in RDW this Standard season, and he's a key component in the Izzet multiplayer burn deck I'm working on. 4.5 stars, at least

This + Curiosity and all your spells are cantrips.

A little bounce in your hand and you can make your opponents feel the pain of even trying to remove him.

This is one best fun guy in the set and novice like me have also noted that he is goblin which is a very viable tribe, just like my Nana's caribou in my home land. But she does not know I have very strong Mono-Black controlo deck with lots of the removal spells.

Guttersnipe, Nivmagus elemental and goblin electromancer in the same set...Between the three I can cast my counterspells (negate and essence scatter for one U. The one blue mana can counter and burn for 2 or burn and grant my nivmagus two +1/+1 counters. Crazy cheap and fast.

I don't think many people realize just how crazy this card really is. I'm thinking about tossing one copy into my RUG Delver build due to the fact that it runs 29 instants and sorceries; Lightning Bolt deals 5, Forked Bolt deals 2 and 2 split, Force of Will counters a spell for free and shocks, Stifle screws your opponent out of a fetchland and shocks, I can Brainstorm and shock, the list goes on and on.

Please keep an eye on this guy because I guarantee he'll be around for a long time.

Agreeing with BurningPhoenix here. The sheer value that this guy can have is unbelievable. Made a standard budget UR draw-go ish deck w/ Delver, Goblin Electromancer, Guttersnipe, and a couple sideboarded Talrand. Think Twice and Faithless Looting (my only sorcery) are just some of the spells that work tremendously with these two gobbos. New-Age (standard) RDW burn is now UR (or other) because of this guy.

UR Electrosnipe vs. Goldfish
T1: UR Shockland, Delver of Secrets
T2: Flip Delver (~25+ instants/sorceries) Island, Goblin Electromancer Swing 3
T3: Mountain, Guttersnipe Swing 5
T4: Sulfur Falls, Play any spells in hand: Think Twice into Searing Spear with 2 lands untapped (7 damage), dump hand for easy 10-20 damage total, then swing for ~7.

Of course, you don't need a godhand to combo with Guttersnipe. Just an example of what he can do. Snapcaster adds further value. Guttersnipe is the definition of a clock in any sorcery/instant heavy deck.

U/R delver has a new, overwhelming, "staple" friend. I am very happy with my playset already...

Combine with tandem lookout and think twice for fun combos. Draw a card each time you cast think twice, plus two damage and the actual think twice draw. Then flashback for even more fun.

Also, spelltwine gets honorable mention for 6 damage for one card, and thats with only a single guttersnipe. Even more shenanigans are available with epic experiment, replicate and storm... And multiplayer gets lots of use from this guy too.

Get a few of these on the field at the same time and cast everything ever! Oh, and nivmagus elemental gets lots of credit since the spells you exile are on the stack already, so guttersnipe still gets his proc(and potential card draw with tandem lookout). Very scary potential.

If you play this in a multiplayer game, you're painting a huge target on your head. Also, pure gold with rebound spells. Staggershock is particularly nice: a total of 8 damage for just 2Red!

He's somewhat comparable to Gelectrode in a counterburn deck. He's a little beefier (and is capable of attacking if necessary), only needs one color, and he hurts your opponents a little more, but he can't be used to snipe creatures and only works when you actually cast your spells. I think I prefer Gelectrode a little more overall for its versatility and for being so much more endearing (I like to call it Squishy; what the heck can I call this?) but this guy does his job very nicely as well.

@Osprey_93: Unfortunately, it doesn't work like you think it does at all. Copying a spell is not the same as casting a spell - therefore, none of those cards will trigger off of a Reverberate loop.

This guy and Lobber Crew could potentially rule a multiplayer table.
Pair with Sigil of Sleep and/or Curiosity and you have lockdown, burn, and card advantage!

This guy wants to play by himself with nothing but spells so don't clutter the deck up with like minded creatures, all you will be doing is thinning the win conditions.

Incredibly strong in with Curiosity in Standard. Played a game at FNM this week where it was basically a cascade into lethal... draw. Had a Goblin Electromancer out, 'Snipe/Curiosity, cast Think Twice, draw a Thought Scour, thought scour, draw a Searing Spear, flash back Think Twice, searing spear, draw another think twice, cast and flash back for game.

8 mana, 15 damage, killed someone with Think Twice.

I will definitely be adding 3x of this guy to my counter burn deck, and I see him being a long time spell in my deck.

Now I can take out a few damage dealing cards like lightning bolt or pillar of flame to throw in some new additions that I could not have in the past. So many new possibilities open up to me with this guy, and he will be a great companion to my 3x Chandra's Spitfire's and 3x Chandra's Phoenix's.

i really enjoy this card. i think it's undervalued really. I'm relatively new but i think i have a good burn deck going on. i have 4 of these guys in my deck with 4 goblin electromancers (if these guy's abilities don't stack i owe a lot of apologies so please get back to me) and a crap load of instants and sorceries. i continuously attack them with burn cards, counters, and A LOT of goblin tokens. once i reach epic experiment it's basically game over. this card has so much potential and in multiplayer games it gives you the AOE advantage.

Does anyone know whether cipher and this guy combine to form an essentially infinite? e.g. I encode a spell onto Guttersnipe. Cast a sorcery/instant triggering his damage, which triggers the encoded spell to be copied. Then I cast the copy and he deals 2 damage again and I copy the cipher spell etc. The official rules and set FAQs don't say anything against it and it agrees with the rules text on both cards, but it feels extremely cheap.
Tofino
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@officedge: No, Cipher only triggers on combat damage (damage done by unblocked creatures in the combat phase).

Still a fun card.

I have a "care about cast spells deck" with this guy, Kiln Fiend, Gelectrode, (some other creatures that get rotated), Burning Vengeance, lots of draw spells with flashback, and rebound spells.

It controls while killing, and it does it quite well.

Trying to run this guy in a Grixis deck at the moment. Cipher cards + Nivix Guildmage equipped with Illusionist's Bracers with Crypt Ghast/Realmwright/Guttersnipe...

Too many moving parts, but with the amount of control/hand advantage you can get in red/blue/black, I think it could work.

All i can say is that, This is the perfect card for a quick mono red burn deck. imagine, who cares if it isn't a 4 step win.

once he is out, cast 4-5 lightning bolts. 3+2 = 5 damage each? 5x4 ( or 5 ) that is 20 to 25 damage. game win. amazing combo .

This, in a Melek drawburn deck. Casting cheap spells reveals cheap spells, giving a pseudo-cascade.
You can pay a mere Red for a double Lightning Bolt plus a Shock from this guy, revealing a Skullcrack, playable again from the top of your deck.

16 damage for 2RedRed at most (double Skullcrack/Searing Spear) at instant speed? Yes, please.

This guy and Hidden Strings is ridiculous. Also, alongside Goblin Electromancer and any burn spells, things quickly get out of hand.
I was playing my friend, had 6 life, 3 available mana, this guy and an electromancer. Friend had a 6/6 flier and was on 20 life.
I won thanks to this guy, Hidden Strings, flashing back a Think Twice and playing the rest of my cards out :D

The one time this card backfired on me:

My UR Niv-Mizzet EDH deck had this on the field against my girlfriend's Michiko EDH deck with Michiko on the field.

I couldn't cast an instant or sorcery without sacrificing a permanent :\

JimmyNoobPlayer
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@frozone: Reverberate, same as most spell copying effects, doesn't actually cast anything extra. Guttersnipe only triggers with cast spells, not copies.

@legoman4000: Yes, his ability triggers when you cast Unsummon, and he's not removed from the battlefield until the spell resolves. He'll deal the damage in that case.

I had a similar question: would his ability trigger when he was sacrificed to cast Goblin Grenade? A judge answered on a forum that it wouldn't trigger, as he was removed from the battlefield as a part of the spellcasting process, before triggers are evaluated.

yesennes
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Not fair!

Under normal circumstances you can fight a burn deck on the premise you trade cards for cards, that is each creature they burn cost them a spell, and who ever runs out of spells/creatures first loses. Some effects, like overload go around this, but you normally play for those with cost or timing. This means that your shock not only takes out my one drop but does 2 damage to me, giving huge card advantage. Besides, its a 2/2 bulk for 3 mana which when your entire board has been burnt, and you have taken 8 damage from him, is a decent threat.
