I think it's time to rebuild my zombie deck. This guy will turn my carrion feeder into an omfg feeder, and my shepherd of rots and gempalm polluters will always have ammo. Love how simple and powerful it is.
Flavor wise this guys ability should have been on the Black Cat seeing as Black Cat is a zombie anyway. You know, the whole "the Cat came back ... " nine lives thing and all.

Wow. This thing is basically an Elite Vanguard that can come back for another run at the opponent's life total. Sure, it can't block, but that's not the point of aggro creatures anyway. Top it off with a meaningful creature type and you have a really good card.

FINALLY! No more of this 'Regenerate' B.S. Ever since I saw Drudge Skeletons, I have been waiting for a simple Zombie that I can play straight out of the graveyard. I don't think he's too powerful, especially since you still have to pay mana for him.
Regenerate is for starfish and trolls, not Zombies. not really. Zombies don't regenerate their limbs at all. Whatever's left of them just kind of keeps crawling at you. This card is perfect and needs to be reprinted in a Core Set at least once.
One thing though: I would like it to have more bony art, since I prefer skeletal zombies to the kind that look like they are from modern horror movies. Just my opinion. However, of all the zombies with 'normal clothers', this one is my favorite and I would be satisfied just to see it reprinted. I guess the fans of 'zombies with clothes' also should get at least one card that is more obviously not a skeleton, since Wizards designs cards for more than one type of person to enjoy. My only real regret is that this was not yet invented before they made Premium Deck Series: Graveborn, which clearly needs 4 of these...

Honestly, it's just like Bloodghast; completely and unnecessarily overpowered and completely out of black's realm of the colour pie. A life payment in addition to the mana cost would be a good place to start in terms in fixing this. That being said, its too good NOT to give a 5/5.
This card combos with Skullclamp... and makes me wonder which is the better card. 5/5

As a 1/1, it would've been awesome and still enabled everyone's combos.
As a 2/1, it's annoying as hell, and puts Savannah Lions in the scrap heap, especially since, in case people forgot, Black isn't supposed to have the best creatures.
in combination, these cards are devastating. Most directly, Gravecrawler's built in recursion lets me toss him to Corpse Harvester, then bring him back, trigering Noxious Ghoul's effect to wipe creatures, along with setting off Grave Pact, and with even 1 Undead Warcheif, he hits for 4 each time. A key element is that the previous card I used for this, Festering Goblin would cost me (typically) my Lord of the Undead's tap ability to recour. With that freed up, I can bring back other cards.
Unable to block, there is no reason not to swing with him so long as 1 remains in play on my side of the field. Though I have to refrain from Vengeful Dead , lest my friends refuse to play with me anymore. Similar situation with Gempalm Polluter and Carrion Feeder.

Thats a lie, because casting something has to be from YOUR HAND, gravecrawler has a ability which allows you to pay 1 mana to bring him back. You can however use Geralf's messengers and fume spitters. Because sac-ing a fume spitter puts a -1/-1 on any creature, so you can have crazy messengers with undying all the time.

@Izzy187 There is nothing in the wording of Rooftop Storm that necessitates casting from your hand. It is indeed very plausible to cast and recast Gravecrawler from the graveyard for free as many times as you like to make Grimgrin, Corpse-Born infinitely powerful.
As for the card itself, although it being a brand new rare makes it difficult to get my hands on, I'm getting two today and finding two more in the near future for my B/U Zombie deck. Fantastic zombie, makes Diregraf Ghoul look very mediocre in comparison. 5/5.

I didn't get the flavor portion of it till recently: Liliana created a ghoul so durable, it can keep coming back no matter how many times you put it down until you kill it for good by removing the body from game. And it obviously can't block because enemy creatures can just jump over the poor guy as he feebly swipes at their legs.
Considering this guy is a rotten , semi-unkillable torso who's best attribute is his expandability, I kinda feel bad for him. ;_;

I am reminded of the first episode of walking dead.
I don't know how prominent the Bloodthrone Vampire / Bloodghast Sac engine was in standard back in the days of Zendikar, but I think Gravecrawler can be a very, very viable replacement for the ghast.
The unfortunate part is the "Zombie" part, when Bloodthrone is most definitely a vampire and not a zombie, which means that you'd need a second zombie on the field for the Zombiecraft effect (a nickname I give to crawler's Metalcraft-like effect).
I'd also suggest that Blood Artist would work wonders with them two, but that'd mean you'd need 4 pieces of this increasingly complex puzzle.
If there is going to be a reprint of Nantuko Husk or Phyrexian Ghoul in the Return to Ravnica block, then I think this will jump in price.
I'm saying this now: invest in Gravecrawlers! Who knows what Golgari's got up their sleeve!

I love using it with Mortarpod but when that rotates out in October, it looks like GB is getting some great replacements. Once you have a ton of mana just throw in Exsanguinate for good measure.

I didn't see Carrion Feeder mentioned, which covers this guy's requirment and becomes essentially "{B}: +1/+1 counter on Carrion Feeder"
Consider his synergy with cards that make you and your opponent both discard, such as Delirium Skeins. Say, T1 Carrion Feeder, T2 Dark ritual, Blood Scrivener, Duress , T3 Delirium; dropping him in the grave and holding Ghoulcaller's Chant.
Now you essentially lose nothing. Say next turn cast the chant, cast gravecrawler from the grave, cycle a gempalm polluter for 3-4 to the face + the 5ish from attacking so far.
