Doesn't hose Snapcaster as well as it should because most people will just take the damage but do not forget, it is a 2/2 for 2 with first strike and haste.

I don't think this is going to be as much of a deterrent against Snapcaster as you all think.
If I wanted to play a Mana Leak a second time, I'd happily pay for the extra 3 life than have to deal with Overrun/Phyrexian Obliterator/ANYTHING BIG.
Don't get too hyped over it. It's mostly just going to be a 2/2 with first strike and haste... Which is still pretty good.

@MojoVince, I'm going to call her Angry Kate from now on.
@DarthParallax, one difference between this and the other cards you mentioned is it's the only one that requires double mana commitment. I think she's still a bit upset about her break up with Snapcaster Mage...
I think the cycle is now complete. The Red one is not the strongest- but it's strong enough against the others. I don't expect to get any more than this in Red.
EDIT: Yes, the Red one is very weak by comparison. But it's still CMC = 2. And think about this: R&D "didn't realise" that Tower of Calamities' predecessors were a cycle until we started wanting them to be, so they made Tower of Calamities. We are going to see the same thing with the Red one, I'm sure, but...
WoTC doesn't make broken cards deliberately. And, shocking though it may seem, Stoneforge, 'Goyf, and Snapcaster were all MISTAKES. As in, Wizards didn't want them to be that powerful. I haven't got enough research on R&D's opinion of Bob, beyond acknowledging simply that he's powerful. I do NOT think Wizards will ever deliberately sit down in a meeting and say "We need a Red card as awesome as Goyf, Snapcaster, or Stoneforge". I think instead they say "We need to Stop Making Broken Cards, if at all possible" So I think when they sit down to have The Red Two-Drop, they'll mention Tower of Calamities, they'll mention how much we want something to be awesome then they'll say...."But deliberately making a Broken card would, in the long run, get us all Shot. Look what happens to the metagame when we try to make FAIR cards! :O "
This will also explain why they haven't talked about Ash Zealot as the Red Heir. They don't want to call attention to her, in case she fails her job. They hope she will turn out super, and they hope we will, on our own, appreciate her as a Fantastic Red Two-Drop. But they put that extra-dense color commit in there for an ironic-but-necessary reason. Because as much as they are in the business of completing cycles and meeting expectations, they can't do it this time :P Not really. Imagine this dude:
Lightning Bolt Addict {1}{R} Rare Haste Discard a card, {T}: Lightning Bolt Addict deals 3 damage to target creature or player and 1 damage to you. 1/1
costs more than Bolt, but then it's repeatable. Is a creature, so both counterable AND destroyable. Seems quite vulnerable to Black, Red, and Blue.
Is Broken as All Hell, and will Never make it to print. We will not see any Rare Red Two-Drops trying to look actually as good as The Broken Two Drops. But we could see a Red Two-Drop trying to be better than every other fair thing. I think that's what this is. "As Good As We'll Get"

A 2cc for a creature with haste is good enough, and she has first strike too to make her a staple in a red deck. With Innistrad still around, most players will sometimes forget her third ability and eat a mace for casting a flashback card.
Though do remember that it's "each player" and not "each opponent". You won't want her to swing at you for flashbacking a Faithless Looting.

This card is good. Compare to Blood Knight. While the ability to hose white decks is very good against well, heavy white decks, flashback hate hoses, a lot of degenerate strategies and affects a lot of decks. Not only that, but, in burn, this card can get in for very early damage which Keldon Marauders and Blood Knight cannot. Also, against control and other spell heavy decks, this brings the beatdown. Very well rounded, and could see play in Burn, RDW, and maybe even be in sideboards. I don't know whether or not you would play this over Hellspark Elementals in burn, I still am going to playtest with this. The fact that it has First Strike (Good for stalling the board/beating down if you have pumps) AND Haste (early beatdown is very very good in burn) makes it playable on it's own even without the third ability.

I think Ash Zealot is mad because she took a wrong turn somewhere between Phyrexia and Innistrad, causing her to overshoot the Innistrad block entirely. Now she's stuck in Ravnica, breaking Golgari face because she has nothing better to do while waiting for the printing of more flashback spells.
So mad that she will punch the back of your head if she catches you trying to flashback your own cards or sneak in a Gravecrawler. She doesn't pick favorites. Great card, even better art and random hosing. Besides the biannual mistake cards and even more ridiculous "fixes" for those mistake cards, I think this card best represents WotC's current design philosophy. Well, a morningstar is a mace by definition, just as a square is a rectangle. However, I would be more inclined to call this a flanged mace, and not a morningstar, since it doesn't appear to have spikes on it, and spikes are what qualifies the mace to be a morningstar. Just sayin.
As for the card, I am sure that this is/was/could be a great card in standard or modern. I know that it was decent in limited if only because it was a 2/2 for 2 with first strike and haste.
In edh, I guess it could be good in a battalion themed deck, maybe? Doesn't get me really excited for EDH, imho.
Honestly, just the 2/2 first strike haste is more than enough. Reminds me of the various Knights (White, Silver, Black, etc), only with the immunity swapped for haste and flashback hate.
