Zombies has gravely needed a good two drop for quite a while now. I was pumped that we were finally getting a Walking Corpse zombie bear, but this really blows that out of the water. It's not as good as Dark Confidant, but it's also not constantly trying to kill you.

A powerhouse in fast aggro decks that want to empty their hands as quickly as possible. He's not as good at the oft mentioned in the same breath with him Dark Confidant, but he's still very good.

Blood Scrivener is a good card for standard. Decent stats for a 2 mana cost. His draw ability is good when you have no cards in your hand. Only problem is if you have low life, his ability is not a option. If it was a option he would be so great, but he falls short. 3.5/5.
A point I want to make: He's not Bob. Bob is about card advantage, where this guy is about emptying your hand and throwing everything you can at your problems until they go away. He only fits an aggro build, Bob is best known for Jund which is a midrange deck.

"...If you would draw a card"
This doesn't just mean at the draw step. If you play all the cards in your hand until you have no cards and then draw from some kind of effect (let's say Temple Bell), you draw 2 and lose 1 life.
Now, I don't know what happens if you play a cantrip. As in, you only have a Gitaxian Probe in your hand, and then play it. Does Blood Scrivener count the short moment between playing it and drawing a card?

Some of most nasty, awesome art I've seen on a Magic card. Great design, too.

@Ferlord:
You do get to draw two cards (and lose 1 life) when you cast a cantrip if you have no other cards in hand. You don't actually draw the card until the cantrip resolves, at which point the spell is on the stack, not in your hand. The same is true of cycling the last card in your hand as you don't draw a card until the 'draw a card' ability resolves at which point the cycled card is already in your graveyard.

What I REALLY like about him is they printed him after I FINALLY shelled out for a Bob -_- LoL. :'( XD
I need this one too. >.> :P (I'm aware that Modern Masters could have Bob. I think Bob is maybe way underrated and of all the cards that are already known to be good that could increase to WTF numbers, Bob seems a good candidate. He's "fair" at 50, and he'll be cheaper than that come MM, but he is good enough in many formats that he could pull a Candelabra of Tawnos or a Jace, the Mind Sculptor and get rrrreeeeaalllllyyyyyy stupid $-wise just because he got merely somewhat better playwise because Wizards isn't going to Develop cards based on already powerful cards interacting well with them- they're going to Develop based on 'fair/intended use' and think mostly in terms of Standard, Limited and Modern. They sort of just plain Let Legacy and Vintage Be Dumb.
So I am hoping to get Bobs before he explodes and starts costing more than he's actually worth. Jace is only worth his price if you actually use your playset to win enough Legacy Pro Games to be worth it. He's not worth if you just want to build Once-Standard Caw-Blade for the fun of commemorating the Deck that got him Banned, and not worth it for Commander either. He's worth 50 if you're just Commanding, but not 150. :P

It actually gives you better value than Sign in Blood itself. Zombies got their 2-drop. This will see heavy play, probably in aggressive Jund decks that empty your hand quickly.

@Glintkawk - it's 1 life for 1 card. You're replacing the card you would have drawn anyway, for drawing an additional card and paying 1 life.
In any case, solid card. On curve, and offers potential card advantage. It is conditional though, and playing it on turn 2 means it'll prob stay there a few turns before it starts netting you cards (unlike Bob that definitely does it on the very next upkeep). It's no Bob, but it's a nice substitute for standard.

Best rare in the draft, next to Aetherling, who both just pillage your opponent. Blood Scrivener though should be seeing play in Aggro decks already, I sure as hell run two copies of it in my Jund Aggro. Aetherling has casual appeal though, unlike Blood Scrivener who's Zombie Bob who just snorted blood crack.

As mentioned, Zombie tribal will really take advantage of this. But even in just this set there is a lot of room for min/maxing this (e.g., Sire of Insanity).

@Ferlord: Yes, it would. You play the card, and THEN it resolves. By the time it resolves, it's on the stack, and no longer in your hand, so you have no cards in hand when you draw, triggering the Scrivener.

What happens if the first card that I draw is an instant, and I cast it before (if that's possible) drawing the second?
So I have an empty hand and Blood Scrivener in play. I draw my first card, a Lightning Bolt and cast it immediately.
Do I draw another two cards, since my hand is now empty again (and lose two life)?
While it's not really that horrible (still beats Goblin Piker), it's not great in most decks. Consider yourself lucky if you get to draw even a single card off it.

Rtschimp, the question is HOW are you drawing two cards. If you play divination, then you draw two cards from that one spell and cannot cast another spell while that resolves. If, however, you have a howling mine out, then yes you can cast the lightning bolt between the Mine draw and the normal draw step draw.
Now that I re-read this, I assume you meant this card's own ability? If so then, again, the answer is no. You cannot do anything mid-resolution of spells and abilities.

*Really* good with Dangerous Wager as you fill the condition and benefit from it. When you have no cards it's still a plain "Pay 1 life, Draw 3"
Burning Inquiry also becomes a cantrip, causing hand disruption for 1 mana and 1 life, while netting you card neutral.
Also, if used with Unholy Grotto and Gempalm Polluter you will draw a net 3 cards per turn while sucking life from the opponent (albeit it another 4 mana per turn.)
